On this episode of They Walk Among America… Ethylene glycol is a colorless and odorless compound with a sweet taste commonly found in antifreeze. Ingesting a sufficient quantity of it can lead to fluid accumulation in the lungs, organ damage, seizures, and, ultimately, death. The effects of this poison typically manifest within one to twelve hours after ingestion, initially impacting the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system. Within twelve to 24 hours, ethylene glycol starts affecting the heart and lungs, while toxic calcium oxalate crystals begin to form. After 24 hours or more, the metabolized poison takes its toll on the kidneys, and death becomes possible at any stage. This type of poisoning results in a slow and agonizing demise, yet it often remains imperceptible. One particularly troubling aspect is that antifreeze poisoning does not readily show up on standard toxicology tests. Consequently, if a death doesn't appear suspicious, the presence of antifreeze poisoning may go undetected…

Letecia Stauch was arrested in March 2020, and just over two weeks later, Gannon’s remains were found in a suitcase beneath a bridge in Florida, over 1,300 miles from his home in Colorado Springs. It was evident that 11-year-old Gannon had suffered horrific violence before his death, but his stepmother continued to try and avoid responsibility throughout the investigation and even after her arrest. While the area is considered an exceptionally peaceful and beautiful part of the country, a shroud of mystery envelopes its tree-covered depths. Between the years of 1945 and 1950, a phenomenon gripped the idyllic location – a series of mysterious disappearances. On this episode of They Walk Among America… One balmy afternoon in October 1946, one rancher set out on a routine trip from his farm in Caldwell, Idaho, to his ranch in Jordan Valley. The desolate highway stretched out before him, except for the occasional passing car. As he rounded a bend in the road, he observed a man pulled over to the side with his hood up, indicating trouble. As he drew closer, he recognised the man as somebody who had previously worked for him. He slowed down his car and approached to offer assistance. After crouching down to examine the engine, he felt a heavy object crash down onto his skull, sending a wave of pain throughout his body….

On this episode of They Walk Among America… At 3:18 PM on January 13th, 1996, Arlington police received a call from 78-year-old Jimmie Kevil, a retiree living on Ruth Street for over 50 years. Kevil told the 911 dispatcher that he had just seen a man driving a black pickup abduct a little girl off of her bicycle close to his house. Arlington police officers arrived at the scene within minutes, and as they retrieved the girl’s bike, a man pulled up and told them, “That’s my granddaughters bike”. Her name was Amber Hagerman…

On this episode of They Walk Among America… It was the summer of 1973 in Three Forks, Montana, and the Jaeger family were on a month-long camping vacation, touring the west. On June 25th, they were camping in Missouri Headwaters State Park, a recreational area comprising 535 acres of woodland alongside the Missouri River. The State Park is known as a popular haunt for vacation makers, wanting to be close to nature, and is replete with bountiful fishing spots, hiking trails, hunting areas, and water-related activities. Just five years earlier, the state park had become a no-go zone after a little boy was stabbed in the arm and then clubbed to death after an unknown person cut a hole in his tent. But by now, that was just a faded memory, and the state park was as popular as ever…

On this episode of They Walk Among America… The Fort Collins police and Poudre Fire Authority were dispatched to the scene at around 5:33 AM. As they approached the rear of the building, they were stunned to see a badly injured woman lift herself off of the concrete below an open window on the second storey. She was bleeding and nude, but the adrenaline coursing through her body allowed her to run towards the flashing blue lights on the street. She was quickly taken into the back of an ambulance. Before the woman could tell the police what had happened, she collapsed and became unresponsive. Apart from the smoke that clung to her hair and skin, the emergency responders could smell something else - bleach…

If the worst happens, we can only hope that the people responsible for catching the perpetrator are pursuing the truth, no matter how unlikely it seems. The 911 operator picked up the phone to be met by a man's voice. He ominously commented that police could find a woman’s body in a parked car at a local motel. The officers were dispatched to the parking lot of the Host Inn hotel, a large convention centre motel located around 3 miles from Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Harrisburg Interchange. On this episode of They Walk Among America… Huntington Hartford rubbed shoulders with some of the elites during his “playboy” years throughout the 1950s and 1960s. In photographs, he posed alongside Salvador Dalí and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. In the wake of his father’s death in 1922, he had become one of the heirs to the estate of his grandfather, George Huntington Hartford, who headed the great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. At just 12 years old, Hartford inherited $90 million, equivalent to around $1.25 billion today. In 1942, he purchased a 160-acre estate in the picturesque Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles and named it The Pines. On the morning of July 20th, 1959, Henry Brugger and Salvador Senjas were beginning their caretaking shift at the lavish estate. As they worked outside under the sultry summer sun, a man scrambled up Sullivan Canyon, which fronted The Pines. On this episode of They Walk Among America… A single block located between 5th and 6th avenue on 47th Street in New York is known as the Diamond District. The bustling epicentre of New York's diamond and jewellery sales industry sprang up on 47th Street in the 1920s and continues to be one of the most popular locations for jewellery shoppers today. The Diamond District expanded during WWII when thousands fled Nazi-occupied Europe and set up shop in New York City. The Diamond Dealers Club, which was founded in the 1930s as a place for dealers and brokers to store their diamonds, has described the arrival of new traders as follows: “Their influx into America, together with the unprecedented economic boom that took place in the country in the post-war period, shifted the balance of the diamond trade from Western Europe to New York. Indeed, immigration has long been a decisive factor in the growth of the U.S. diamond sector, and the DDC, both then and today, traditionally has served as a melting pot for a diverse group of nationalities and cultures”. Many store owners and workers in the Diamond District were Orthodox or Hasidic Jews. A small place that contained such valuable products was always bound to attract undesirables, but in 1977 the disappearance of two diamond cutters proved that pressure was only good for diamonds…

It was the 23rd of July, 2007, a Monday, so Mary knew that it was going to be a busy day. By 9:30AM, there was already a line of customers, ready to go about their financial transactions after the weekend. A middle-aged woman approached the counter. Mary noticed immediately that she had a terrified look in her eyes. Her face was ashen. The woman quietly told Mary that her name was Jennifer Petit, and that she and her family were being held hostage at their home by two men. She needed to withdraw $15,000 to bring to the men, one of whom was in her car in the parking lot waiting for her to return.
