#261: Ollie

This week saw the awful, tragic news that podcast regular and one of our favourite people, Ollie Allen, passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of just 23.

We devote a large chunk of the episode to talking about our favourite memories of Ollie and what a huge loss he will be to the fanbase and to the city. We mention the GoFundMe page set up to support his family at this difficult time, honouring a young life full of joy, loyalty, and too short a time with us. And we also praise the great work by the club and fans to organise a very moving minute's applause during Saturday's game in Ollie's memory. Thank you to everyone who made it so poignant.

We touch too on recent results, last week's NCAFC Trust meeting and the transfer window - and no doubt we'll return to some of those themes in our next regular episode, most likely after the Bristol Rovers game. It's another one of our #BigInterviews. Huge thanks to bonafide club legend Mark O'Brien for joining us. Rhys is in the hotseat as Mark chats about his time at the club. He joined under Graham Westley, scored THAT Great Escape goal, and was a feature of the side as it evolved under Mike Flynn to progress to two play-off finals and numerous cup runs, and this summer was appointed club ambassador.

Mark speaks candidly about coping with having to retire at 27 through heart issues, and dealing with the subsequent PTSD and depression. It's raw and emotional, and we're grateful to Mark for sharing his journey with us.

#221: Perfect day

For only the second time ever, all five of the podcast team managed to attend the same game (albeit we only saw Rhys from across the pitch, as he waved to us from the nice seats in the Bisley Stand). Ed was on duty for the visit to Rodney Parade of Morecambe in a crucial Fourth Division six-pointer. No normal episode from us this weekend as we'll save ourselves up for a combined look at the Barrow and Morecambe games in the latter part of next week. Instead, we have a bonus episode in which Ian interviews the journalist Daniel Storey about his recent article in the i newspaper about visiting Rodney Parade. It's part of a series Daniel's writing as he "does the 92" during the course of the season, and it gives us a rare insight into how our club is seen by those outside. #210: A winter warmer

With postponements and FA Cup action, Newport County has found themselves in the middle of a winter break of sorts. So with time to kill, and it being far too cold outside to do anything else, Jamie, Rhys and Ian gathered together to take stock at the half-way point of the season.

Should we be in panic mode just yet? How big a loss is Bryn Morris? Why are our next four home games all nail-biting six pointers? Also discussed: a potential January transfer strategy; a dissection of Huw Jenkins’ update on the training ground, Rodney Parade, and more; and how we were royally messed around over Christmas by the fixture computer and our friends at Sky Sports.

August is a big month for debuts, and we have one of our own - listener Rob made his first appearance on the pod, to talk about Tuesday's defeat at Orient, alongside Ed who witnessed Saturday's glorious home win against Doncaster. #183: A matter of Trust

In the first part of the pod, Jack brings you a newsround covering recent goings-on at 1912 Exiles Towers and at Rodney Parade. We also hear from The Other Three Amigos podcast about how they thought Nathan Wood got on during his recent loan spell at Cork City.

Ed then takes the reins for an interview with the Newport County Supporters' Trust. Nominations are currently open for election to the new Trust Board, so we hear from Colin Everett and Shaun Johnson about their experiences over the last few years with the Trust, asking what skills they think are needed from potential candidates, and what might be the biggest challenges and opportunities for the new Board. Apologies for the fact that some of Shaun's audio is a bit sketchy due to wifi issues - but we're sure you'll agree that the content itself is a good listen. #176: Blown away at Barrow

It's another Ian Street match diary, but sadly without quite the same level of joie de vivre as last weekend. The "fifth Beatle" of the pod, Ollie, also makes an appearance - but neither of them find much to warm the soul from a frustrating and cold afternoon in Barrow.

It’s been SOME week for Newport County. We beat Wrexham at home, we had Manchester United RATTLED (for 21 minutes), Huw Jenkins has formally taken over the club, and the Supporters’ Trust held its AGM.

We also signed someone! So, no wonder this pod turned into a bumper episode. Jamie, Ian, Ed, and Jack all convened in the aftermath of that FA Cup game at Rodney Parade to chew the fat.
