Just before the pandemic some of the biggest names in Bush-crafting and primitive survival met in Alberta Canada and the Bushcraft symposium. Les Stroud was the main keynote speaker and while he was there, they asked if he would host a panel discussion with Dave Wescott, Mors Kochanski, David Halladay and Andre Bourbeau.

This is part two of my interview and morning coffee and jam session with the artist known as Aradia. And again – it’s really more or a chill morning with coffee and a couple musicians kind of moment – not so much an interview.

Aradia is a self-produced multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter that brings something with originality and depth to the world of alternative pop. Her progressive, building arrangements echo elements of Robyn, Marina, Blondie and Roosevelt—artfully blending nu disco, 80s guitar rock and modern electronica.

Born in the New York City metropolitan area & studying music from early childhood, she is after a sojourn to Seattle & Los Angeles where she fine-tuned her craft and her sound, went back to NYC to focus on live performances & to release a string of anthemic singles. She now continues to do so from Long Island Sound in Connecticut.

This is Part One of my interview - well, mostly morning coffee and jam session with the artist known as Aradia.

There has never been something for Dave to be – to aspire to. He’s a musician that’s it. But of course that kind of focus combined with no small amount of talent has seen him on stage and in the studios with everyone from Paul McCartney, Steve Miller and Peter Frampton to Cindy Lauper, Steve Vai, Itzhak Perlman and Bruce Springsteen. His life in rock and roll is filled with the stories that so many of us musicians envy. Dave is in the full meaning of the phrase: a musician’s musician.

I had the pleasure of meeting John Zada out on the west coast of Canada in the wilderness. He emerged from the little cabin he was staying in to greet me and to talk about Bigfoot. A while later he released his fantastic book In The Valleys of the Noble Beyond. It is a book like no other when it comes to the subject matter as he doesn't waste time on the trivialities of ‘looking for bigfoot’ but rather digs deep into the larger more existential questions. My interview with him took the same trajectory as we sat looking out over a lake with a glass of scotch in hand. This is part 1 of my talk with John Zada.

With a background in Ethnobotany, Anthropology and Ethnobiology she wrote her PhD thesis in Bushcraft and its relationship to Indigenous Knowledges.
