From Wikipedia: Bigfoot is described in reports as a large hairy ape-like creature, in a range of 6 to 10 feet tall, weighing in excess of 500 pounds, and covered in dark brown or dark reddish hair. The creature usually has large eyes, a pronounced brow ridge, and a large, low-set forehead. The top of the head has been described as round and crested, similar to the sagittal crest of the male gorilla. Bigfoot is sometimes reported to be accompanied by an unpleasant smell. The common name, bigfoot, comes from its large footprints that can be up to 24 inches long and 8 inches wide.

The first sighting of a Sasquatch by a white man apparently came in 1811 near what now is the town of Jasper, Alberta Canada. A trader named David Thompson found some strange footprints, fourteen inches long and eight inches wide, with four toes, in the snow.

The newspaper, Daily Colonist, of Victoria, British Columbia told of the capture of a “Sasquatch.”

1910 - Two murders blamed on Bigfoot
In 1910, the murder of two miners, found with their heads cut off, was attributed to the creatures, though there was little supporting evidence that the killing wasn't human in origin. 1924 - Three Major Sightings
Canadian lumberjack, Albert Ostman was captured by a family of Bigfoots.
A group of miners near Mount St. Helens shot and killed a Bigfoot.

Romero's Zombies

* Romero's Zombies were the cause of an unknown phenomenon which causes re-animation of the brain. It is not spread from undead to human, rather just the act of dying can bring the infection.
* James Titchwell, Dreadful Pleasures: An Anatomy of Modern Horror, "[He] bred the zombie with the vampire, and what he got was the hybrid vigor of a ghoulish plague monster."
* Night of the Living Dead selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry.
* Because of a copyright error, Night of the Living Dead is public domain and is distributed by many different publishers: 52 VHS, 181 DVD, 9 Blu-ray.
* There are five sequels to Night of the Living Dead each one tracing the evolution of the living dead epidemic, but focusing on humanity's desperate attempt to cope with it.

* Creatures are demonically possessed corpses
* Not really zombies, but we see a lot of influence from Raimi in present day zombies

O'Bannon's Zombies

* Zombies have a specific hunger for brains and at first, retain all their former intelligence and abilites: running, speaking, thinking, etc.
* Zombification occurs by a chemical compound called Trioxin, which was a byproduct of experiments from the outbreak during Night of the Living Dead
* The consumption of brains helps stave off the pain of decomposition

Zombie \ˈzäm-bē\: a dead person who is able to move because of magic according to some religions and in stories, movies, etc. (Merriam-Webster)

Haitian zombies - "Zombi" is also another name of the voodoo snake god Damballah Wedo, of Niger-Congo origin

1818

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein sparked the modern concept of undead: vampires and zombies, etc.

Late 1800s

Ambrose Bierce and Edgar Allan Poe write undead-themed novels, and although they weren’t specifically zombies, they influenced future authors’ imaginations.

1920-1930

H.P. Lovecraft wrote several novelettes about zombies and the undead, including his most popular zombie-related work: Herbert West-Reanimator

* Cool Air: (Wikipedia) A doctor keeps himself alive for 18 years after his death by machines and keeping his body cold.
* Herbert West-Reanimator: (Wikipedia) It featured scientifically reanimated corpses, with animalistic and uncontrollable temperament. Herbert West is the inventor of a special solution, or "reagent", that can resurrect the dead

Tales from the Crypt featured many stories with zombies, including adaptations of Lovecraft’s stories.

1954

Richard Matheson - I Am Legend. This novel later was adapted into a movie in 1964, The Last Man on Earth, and then again in 2007, I Am Legend, and a direct-to-video production in 2007, I Am Omega.

1968

Night of the Living Dead - George A. Romero. Inspired greatly by I Am Legend.
