It was the perfect timing to invite MotoGP's big boss, just one day after the 2024 calendar was announced Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta joins Fran Wyle to explain how the Championship has evolved from the early 90s with only European rounds to a global calendar with 22 stops in very different countries all over the world.

Carmelo also deep dives into why the calendar is organized in that way, the history-making Indian GP despite all the difficulties faced and the importance of bringing MotoGP to new countries in an efficient and sustainable way.

We also get to know Carmelo a bit more as he recalls some personal anecdotes and opens up about when his passion for motorsport started, when he got his first motorbike, how he and his friends built up the Calafat circuit and a few years later was also involved in the construction of Barcelona's track and his final move to Dorna.

But here we are, bringing you guys Dovi Undaunted and Unfiltered talking about some of the things closest to his heart; Supercross, caravan holidays, his inner circle, and of course the methods he uses to be at the very top of his game every time he lines up on a MotoGP™ grid.

There’s not just stories and perspectives in this episode, there’s a few things for us all to take away from this one as well… Funny story actually, we had intended for Dovi to be one of the very first episodes of the year all the way back in Qatar but then, well, everything happened and half a year later, finally, we’ve managed to find a slot in his busy schedule for him to come and have a chat.

Wilco Zeelenberg: riders after retirement… and a disastrous first day in a new job!

The last few episodes of the podcast have had us thinking about riders and what they do after they retire. Do ex-athletes fill out the other roles in their respective sports better than non-athletes? Does having competed in the sport mean you automatically have all the necessary skills to exceed in your post racing career? A lot of us probably have a good idea about the answer to some of those questions already. But we wanted to speak about the topic, and as ever get to know a little better, a man whose post racing career has far outshone his competition career back in the day. Wilco Zeelenberg is a one time 250cc Grand Prix winner and as team manager, he took Jorge Lorenzo to three #MotoGP World Championships, Cal Crutchlow to his World Supersport Championship, and now is the team boss at Petronas Sepang Racing Team in MotoGP™… which you may know, just took victory in Misano with Franco Morbidelli and two previous victories this year with Fabio Quartararo… they’re pretty decent, to say the least. He also was the first ‘rider performance analyst’ in the MotoGP™ paddock, that’s “rider coach” to you and us, so basically is responsible for creating an entirely new job in racing. So what does he think of that? How did he decide the moment to retire from riding? How did he then rise to the very top of the sport once again? As you’ll hear, it was far from straight forward - even on his first day in the new job!!
