Any student of Scripture - whether a scholar, minister, or layperson - is like a craftsman with his or her tools. Have you ever walked into the workshop of a craftsman (an artist, carpenter, mechanic, or musician) and wondered, "what do all these tools or instruments do"? In this workshop, we will practice how to read Scripture with "tools" that engage the head, heart, and hands. We will engage historical and literary questions, and we will learn how to read the Bible as an act of worship, with the posture of faith seeking understanding. Learning how to study the Bible as the word of God will establish a great foundation for whatever vocation you may be called to.

Hosted on Acast.
Can your faith in Jesus Christ really make you a better engineer? Absolutely! And a better doctor, business leader, teacher, mechanic, restaurant worker—or whatever is your day job. But your faith doesn't impact your vocation automatically. You have to understand how your faith works in the workplace. Just like education and training in your college major, it takes learning, practice, and intentionality to let your faith in Jesus be the thing that navigates you through your career. In this workshop, we will talk about how a career that is built on the foundation of Jesus Christ and God's Word will bring you peace, joy, and excitement, no matter what career field you choose. It's not rocket science!

Hosted on Acast.

Jesus healed people. Paul was healed as part of his conversion to Christianity. And the whole arc of the gospel is that God is healing and redeeming the world. It is no mistake that in Genesis, God completes his creation by breathing life into a body—our bodies—and therefore, our health matters to God.

So where do we fit into God's story as future healers and healthcare workers? Is there anything unique about working for the health of others as a Christian? In this session, we will explore these questions and more, focusing on health justice and equity, rest and boundaries in healthcare, when medical ethics meet Christian ethics, health systems versus health care, and being a faithful steward of your training and education. Whether you are an aspiring nurse, physician, midwife, pharmacist, physical therapist, or any other member of the healthcare team, or are unsure but asking any of the questions above, you are welcome.

Hosted on Acast. <itunes:summary>

While our main issues are not our identity, our identity is usually our main issue. In this sports-crazed, fame-and-fortune, clout-driven, name-dropping society, we all desire to be known, loved, embraced, and accepted…especially athletes. Big games, large crowds, loud screams, air time, and name recognition are dreams come true—until they’re not. Injuries, illnesses, and personal issues can quickly turn a dream season into a living nightmare. Our issues try to take the place of our identity, and before long, we look in the mirror and forget who is staring back, like a beneficiary of an inheritance that has never been claimed. How do we handle life’s sucker punches? Are they ultimately God’s provident blessings in disguise? What does being an athlete have in common with these ideas? I look forward to sharing the answers with you.

Hosted on Acast.

Fashion might seem superficial, but is it? This session offers an eye-opening discussion on how fashion touches every aspect of our lives—from politics, art, and identity, to what it means to be human. Taking as its starting point things that make up our everyday lives—what we wear, a trip to the mall, the latest style—our discussion will explore how these mundane practices are attached to a myriad of deeper assumptions in our late modern world. How does the Apostle Paul’s call for Christians to “put on Jesus Christ” challenge, subvert, and redirect these modern assumptions?

Hosted on Acast.
