The two documents declared by these municipalities are the Charter of The Rights of The Family, and the Resolution against LGBT ideology. While neither document directly states that they would exclude the LGBT community, they indirectly and disguisedly target and fail to protect LGBT people. The Charter, which advocates for the protection of the family, defines marriage as the union of only a man and a woman (so does the Polish Constitution). The Resolution does not explicitly target LGBT people, but instead, it creates false rhetoric of "LGBT Ideology" and claims to oppose this LGBT ideology. As of June 2020, nearly 100 municipalities in Poland have adopted one or both of these homophobic declarations.


In this episode, I speak with Wojciech. He is an openly gay man from Poland. And I am a queer woman. We both attended the class LGBTQI Politics and Policy at Sciences Po and this episode is a contribution to our class project.


We had the opportunity to interview Bart Staszewski, a prominent LGBT activist in Poland. This episode starts with Bart’s story, who has recently been involved in some lawsuits. After Wojciech gave a background briefing of the situation in Poland, we got into the discussion. We delved into the conservative ruling of Law and Justice (aka PiS) since 2015, we talked about why the homophobic fear of people exists and how it should be dismantled, and we also looked into the aspect of religion and church in Poland. Finally, we landed on Bart’s story once again, hearing about his hardships and thoughts on the future of Poland.

]]> Beginning in February 2019, a wave of “LGBT Free Zones” has been taking place in Poland. “LGBT Free Zones” is the name given by local LGBT activists to those Polish municipalities, counties, and provinces that have publicly declared their opposition to LGBT ideology and protection of family rights. “我想做一档请男生来跟我对话的播客”，两个月前起，这个欲望强烈到扼住喉咙。除了文字的那种孤独，冷静和留有余地，我在搜寻一种即刻性、冲突性和张力更强的表达，并将之记录下来。我想与我无法切身感受其世界的人对话、辩论。我不求结果，我只想互相挑战，直面我可能有的愚蠢，考验我正认真守护着的立场，无止境地拓宽我的共情能力。

我仍旧是个兴趣在四方的人，但是自研究生的学习和尤其在联合国妇女署的工作，让我从过去一贯的高速无规则运动状态慢慢趋近于一个稳定而匀速的值。这一边是令我害怕的—是不是我已不再青春活yao? 同时也是无与伦比的，因为可以终有勇气面对那道我的灵魂之问：

“你能为喜欢的事物走多远？”

“你究竟喜欢什么？”

我说，我想为性别平等的实现认真做点事儿。

As an individual, there is so much to feel, think, read, absorb, discuss with others, and finally generate and release. I’m excited, moved and grateful. One fundamental happiness of being alive.

(生而为人，这个世界上有太多可感受，可思考，可阅读，可充盈吸收，可与人讨论，最终结晶，输出，释放的东西了。这不就是我们活着的一项本质化的快乐，我对此感到激动，感动，感激。)

我过去往往输入大于输出，且我一直在思考输入到什么程度方可才能自信而准确输出。结果发现这事儿跟爱情来了没撒两样，你永远没有准备好的时刻，抱着一颗谦虚和继续成长的心，做就好了。

和一个从初中起语文作文老拿年级最高分、会素描巴黎凯旋门给我、自我认识起就想做大学教授、现在如愿地一心投入教育政策和社会科学的学术女孩，不仅做了我十二年的BFF (best friend forever)，现在与我一起共事做节目，我是多么地幸运呀。她叫Munira，穆妮拉，我非常爱她，又特别喜欢她。
