We wanted to share our sincere apologies for the lack of content recently. We're both experiencing a bit of a tricky time at the moment with ongoing personal / health related issues which is conflicting with the regularity of our recordings.

But rest assured, Gary is at home with his Mam an' Dad with a cold ashtray, and I'm perusing the chicken fillets in the frozen aisle, so it's only a matter of time until we're back swinging on our tyres with lots of new twaddle.

We're obsessed with listener demographics, but noticed that even though the Xfm shows are growing in popularity everyday there is still a huge gender disparity between male and female listeners. Why there are so few female listeners? To shed some light on this, we invited a panel of our listeners onto the podcast for a bonus extended edition where we had an open, honest discussion about gender in comedy.

This week we spoke to Author, Academic and former Xfm DJ, Steve Taylor. “The Man With The Knowledge”, Steve presented shows in virtually every time-slot on the station between 1998 and 2008, but dedicated most of his energy to The A to X of Alternative Music which went out weekly, and where he was allowed total freedom to choose the music he wanted, blending new releases with archive tracks and rarities from artists that ranged from the psychedelic sixties to the lo-fi nineties. 

A great storyteller and the changing face of the music / media landscape, we're thankful to Steve for his humour and generosity with his time, so do enjoy the chat and be sure to check him out on Twitter and read his Xfm-homage book!

This week we spoke to TV & Film journalist Tom Fordy. For the 20th Anniversary of The Office, Tom wrote a piece celebrating the Xfm shows. Not only is it a great nuanced read, but also a rare piece of journalism about this very niche period of the trio's careers.

Matt was a drummer for Britpop band Menswear and The Montrose Avenue in the 1990s, before moving into music journalism at Xfm in 2002 where he presented various shows and documentaries.

In 2007 Matt joined BBC Radio 6 Music where he presented music news magazine show The Music Week for three years. He has since gone on to write and present the interview series The First Time With... hosting more than 100 shows with guests including David Gilmour, Yoko Ono, Michael Stipe, Noel Gallagher, Lars Ulrich, Pete Townshend, Elton John, Mavis Staples, Brian Wilson, Jimmy Page, Bjork, Radiohead and Dave Grohl.

Matt is an integral part of the Shaun Keaveny Breakfast Show on BBC 6 Music, researching, writing and presenting the Music News.

Laurie is an artist, animator and designer, but perhaps most oddly known as the caretaker of the infamous creepy dead baby mansion from The Ricky Gervais show animation.

More than that, he is a frequent collaborator of Ricky and Karls - his credits including the first animated Monkey News, the BBC's Culture show, the When The Whistle Blows animated opening (as seen in Extras) and more recently with the KP Radio cartoons.
