This week on Kolide Goss, we sit down with our beautiful friend Elo, whose story is nothing short of extraordinary. Diagnosed with late stage 2 / early stage 3 breast cancer at just 33 — while 13 weeks pregnant — Elo began chemotherapy at 15 weeks and faced two types of breast cancer, including triple negative.

What followed was a journey of strength and surrender: 16 rounds of chemo, the premature birth of her baby boy Max at 26 weeks, months in the NICU, another melanoma diagnosis, and finally, major surgery and radiotherapy — all within one year.

Through it all, Elo’s resilience, humour and grace shine. She shares what it’s really like to navigate treatment while pregnant, life in NICU, recovery, motherhood, and finding perspective when everything changes.

A story of bravery, love, and the power of a mother’s instinct — this is one you won’t forget. 💗

Having trained at Royal North Shore Hospital, Dr. McCaffrey is an obstetrician and gynaecologist. Fun fact: he is one of 11 children (10 boys, 1 girl). Yes, you heard that correctly. His dad is an OB, and two of his brothers are also doctors. Genius genes!

We asked Dr. McCaffrey every question under the sun about pregnancy and birth, including (but not limited to): when to take your undies off (vitally important), how to limit interventions, managing mental health and migraines during pregnancy, forceps delivery, low-lying placenta, an en caul baby (yep, that’s French for "under the veil" for you non-bilingual folks), what a teratoma is, and everything in between.

We have been trying to make this episode happen with Eliza Glasson (née Kearns), founder of the communication agency Kearns PR since we started the podcast. However, it has been worth the wait.

Not only does Eliza run a thriving communications agency working with clients like J Andreatta, Jan Logan, Benefit Cosmetics and Basil Bangs; she also runs the PR for fashion giant GLASSONS. Did we mention she is married to the CEO, James Glasson? Oh, and she also has two beautiful children, Olive and Camille.

We were lucky enough to share an office (and attend events) with Eliza and she has executed some of the best PR events and strategies we've seen. Her events were WOW. The anti PR, PR queen taught us everything we know about writing the perfect email lol and we are so excited she finally joined us on the pod. This isn't just a chat about PR and while Eliza hates getting deep - she shared the pain of losing her mother and brother at a very young age and how that's reframed her outlook on becoming a mother.

This week we are joined by the INCREDIBLE Jemma Griffin, who weathered the storm with her partner Nedd Brockman as he ran 4000km from Cottlesloe Beach, WA to Bondi Beach, NSW, to raise money for homelessness in Australia.

Jem is a breath of fresh air and radiates positivity - she was a pillar of strength and resilience for Nedd on this arduous journey, and we were absolutely inspired by her motivation and perseverance. Through tears, joy and complete chaos, Jem put her life on pause to support Nedd as he endured agonising pain, excruciating injuries and, ultimately, the greatest of highs as he ran through Bondi Beach. Jem is truly someone special, and alongside Nedd - they are a remarkable duo. We hope you enjoy this chat as much as we did.

This week we sit down with the beautiful Anthea Porter who has undergone an immense personal transformation over the past 12 months. On paper, Anthea had the life one would typically aspire to - an incredible career, a beautiful home, an amazing husband and a baby on the way. However, after living in Amsterdam for five years, her partner got Covid before any vaccinations existed and following a traumatic they decided to move back to Australia with their newborn Tavi. What happened next was a bout of post-partum depression, unreconciled childhood trauma, a lack of career fulfilment and a prevailing sense of emptiness. There began a year-long therapy journey, immense self-reflection and ultimately 'doing the work.'

Anthea is vulnerable, brave and courageous, and this episode truly shone a light on the way we feel pressured to adhere to societal stereotypes of what it means to be successful without considering our own happiness. There are so many "aha" moments in our chat with Anthea, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

We've been talking about having the legendary Tully Smyth on the podcast since we started #KOLIDEGOSS almost a year ago and we've FINALLY got her face-to-face in Sydney, post her second stint in the Big Brother House. We first met Tully on a work trip to Cambodia two years ago and we hit it off immediately (after 35 Margaritas and a hospital stay for Ella). The rest, as they say, is history and we've remained fast friends ever since.

She joins us to spill all the TEAAA BABY! We chatted about everything from Big Brother Round 2, adapting to the show's new format, the surprise of finding out her ex Drew would be in the house (and the drama that came with it), finding love with her beautiful partner Daniel and finally, living with the grief of losing a parent to dementia (a cause very close to our hearts). Tully has a big beautiful heart and she lives by the mantra "making lemonade out of lemons." We all need that vibe in our lives!

We have been on a two-week hiatus as I (Steph) recently lost my father, Ronnie to a very long battle with Dementia and Parkinson's. He fought until the very end and I know he would have wanted me to stop wallowing in my misery and get back into life. He always said a problem shared is a problem halved and we hope that we can share some insights on grief and loss with those who may also be struggling. Don't worry - there are also a few laughs in there.

This episode is dedicated to Ronnie, the man, the myth, the legend - "I have no doubt you’re sending it to hell and back up there and the boys won’t know what hit them when you arrive. #EP32 Therapy now versus then, wetting the bed and other childhood wigs

Off the back of last week's menty b and as if fate was working like magic, the psychologist that Steph has been trying to get into finally had an opening. With God on her side, she decided to take life by the horns and deal with her problems head-on. We recap the session and talk about our own experiences with therapy (Ella as a child and Steph sporadically over her life) and how these experiences change as you get older and by default, deal with more shit.

We also get our favourite Mamas on the pod, Nicola and Chrissy Doll, to share their own experiences about having anxious wrecks for children - from bed wetting to refusing to sleep without our parents, we were unusual little girls.

In all seriousness though, therapy/counselling is always a good idea - it's great to unpack your problems, however great or small, with a professional that can give you important insights and techniques on how to work through these issues. Therapy should never be stigmatised and as a wise man once said: 'a problem shared is a problem halved.'

This week Steph accidentally dropped the clutch and had a Thursday night belter.

Despite being severely hungover, she came in on Friday to record the podcast and was supported by Ella (who was fresh as a daisy) and Ruby, her sister. Look, to be honest, this poddy is a bit all over the shop and emotional (as all hangovers are) but we show the mental head noise of a hangover, in REAL-TIME. We've all been there and it's hell - so if you're in the same boat today, don't be too hard on yourself.

This week we have our close friend, dog whisperer and all-round saviour Nikki Teo from East Side Dogs joining us on the pod to talk us through our greatest obsession - you guessed it - dogs, dogs and more dogs.

When Nikki rescued Steph's now dog, Kobe, their family was about to meet their greatest blessing (despite his naughty tendencies). Kobe is undoubtedly a challenging dog and it was through Nikki's skill and expertise that we realised dog training isn't simply about correction - there's so much more to the psychology, compatibility and energy that we bring to the table with our dogs. When Ella got her beautiful yet giant rotti, Tonka - she also experienced challenges and Nikki once again worked her magic and saved the day.

Nikki's journey began when she had to bear witness to her two dogs, Archie and Tommy, fighting mercilessly out of the blue and from there, she made it her mission to learn why this was happening and how to fix it. After months of struggling with trainers that simply didn't understand a holistic approach to her dogs' needs, she was determined to meet and train with the GOAT - César Millán. And that she did - via a sneaky little trespass into his LA home (yep, wild!)

Nikki is genuinely obsessed with dogs and her charisma and energy makes you permanently want to be in her orbit. This week we sit down with our incredibly talented graphic designer, Gen Meighan.

We've been wanting to share Gen's story for a while now. When we first met Gen and hired her shortly after, we admired her maturity and talent. Gen lights up any room she steps into. She is vivacious, quirky and a little bit weird - which for us, are the perfect ingredients to making a GW (good woman). But, her journey to becoming this sophisticated and enigmatic young woman has been a long one, filled with challenges, pain and suffering. We had no idea that during school, she suffered from overwhelming anxiety and obsessive thoughts, which led to her developing an eating disorder - a way to assert some control in a world that she felt constantly judged from.

Gen is only 22 but her wisdom and self reflection truly shows that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. As women, living in an increasingly judgmental world fuelled by social media, we can all relate to aspects of her journey and we hope this episode can help those who might resonate. This is a brave, courageous and raw account of Gen, as told by her. We love that despite it all, she can always have a giggle.

EP#18 When Life Gives You Lemons Do Anal

This week we are joined by our favourite injectables nurse, Toby. We’ve been seeing Toby for about two years now and this stunning man brings so much light and energy to our lives - along with being known as the very best in the business at what he does.

As always, we goss and lol about the bo bo we love so much but Toby has lived through some traumatic events that have shaped his life and most importantly, made him the beautiful soul that he is today.

Coming from a small coastal country town in Nowra, Toby left his family to live in Sydney to become an emergency / trauma nurse. His story is both heart breaking and beautiful, and we love how positive, happy and fucking funny he is despite it all.

He’s the kind of energy we all need before Christmas and as he quotes, “when life gives you lemons, do anal.” LOL.

We’ve dedicated today’s ep to Nurse Toby’s 94 year old Grandmother Dorine, who has stood by him through thick and thin. We love you Dorine.

EP#17 Harry Favetti on Living with OCD

Steph has always had a strange and unusual fascination with OCD, partly stemming from the envy that these people are organised, ordered and lead extremely successful and productive lives. While much of this narrative can be true, this is a disorder that should not be trivialised and what often goes unnoticed is the obsessive and intrusive thoughts, patterns and rituals that exist as a persistent and monotonous internal dialogue. These have been described by many as an all consuming and debilitating part of the illness.

This week on the pod we sit down with good friend, Harry Favetti who suffers from a more severe case of OCD as he talks us through everything from living with the disorder, being diagnosed, the rituals he must complete on a daily basis and the way it’s functioned as both a blessing and a curse in his life. Harry attributes many of the career successes he’s had from some of the patterns stemming from his OCD but the episode also sheds light on the unseen parts of his disorder which can be mentally taxing and draining.

This ep isn’t all doom and gloom and we have a lot of laughs along the way, particularly as Harry reflects on growing up with 5 siblings and a bunch of mates who continually err on the side of mess and chaos.

Imagine discovering at the age of 21 that after years of what you thought was just bad period pain, was actually a series of debilitating cysts and fibroids in your uterus?

Then Doctors starting important conversations about your long term fertility and flagging some confronting surgeries (including a partial hysterectomy) as one of the options to ease the excruciating pain.

Fast forward to the age of 24 and our good friend, work colleague and PR guru, Emily Findlay has been suffering silently through a condition that thousands of women face.

She talks us through her decision to ‘watch and wait’ instead of rushing the decision to start a family, the multiple gynaecologists she went through, debilitating daily pain, ruptured cysts and the growth of a second fibroid - all at the age of 24.

EP#13 Turning 30 - Our Expectations vs Reality

With Ella turning 30 in two weeks and Steph having already reached the big milestone last April, we goss about what we ‘should’ have ticked off the invisible expectation list that comes hand in hand with turning 30 (aka having your shit together). Whether it’s the pressure of getting married, buying a house or having a kid - we delve deep into our fears and where we sit on all three.

The reality? We don’t fit into the cookie cutter mould of what “being thirty” means and we’re okay with that. Realising we’re not quite where our parents were at our age is scary but we’re embracing the paths we’ve chosen.

Reflecting on all the highs and lows of our 20s - navigating work, life and relationships - we’ve had a pretty wild ride and don’t regret a thing. We’ve also replaced having a kid (for now) with our fur babies Kobe and Tonka, and we love them like children lol.

If you’re about to turn thirty, the biggest lesson we’ve learnt is not to put too much pressure on yourself to conform to what you think you should be doing because at the end of the day, everything works out exactly how it’s supposed to.

EP#2 Mercury in Retrograde

Slight change of pace this week as we talk about the month when everything in our personal and work lives fell to absolute shit.

Mercury was in retrograde that fateful June 2021, so we decided it was only fair to blame the universe. In the space of a week, we had to shoot the biggest e-commerce campaign we’d ever done (and experienced the busiest few months of work post-Covid), Steph nearly lost her Dad to a bad fall, after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and then dementia 12 years ago, AND to top it all off, Ella then received the news that her Dad has cancer.

So, how do you navigate running your own business when it feels as though your world is quite literally falling apart? Well, we survived to tell the tale and we have a few silver linings for you, and of course, some humour and goss thrown in the mix because if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry.

Plus, we have some great recommendations this week which align with our advice on how to deal with the stress of being human (no matter how great or small).
