This one is a bit different because… well there’s a lot of bad stuff happening both in our country, and around the world. We had some stuff to get off our chests. We do have some newer stuff to talk about this weekend, and what an absolute blessing it is to have something, anything that was crafted with love and kindness, and can momentarily take us out of the swirl of darnkess we’re caught in. 

Mio: Memories in Orbit oddly enough is a calming presence in the midst of this negativity, and we’re glad we got to speak on it this week. Strangely it does feel like the right time for soemthing like this to land. It’s a beautiful game that tells a moving story, with some fun an intering gameplay, and music that just moves you in ways I’m still not totally sure I understand.

Based on the amount of people that watched this Cartoon Network mini-series when it came out a decade ago, you probably hadn't seen it either, but now that we have, we are going to beat the drum that this is a autumnal masterpiece that should be celebrated for its eccentricities each and every fall from here on out.

An animation style that is both cutesy, charming and unsettling, coupled with a cozy yet sometimes haunting sound design makes for one severely underrated series that is probably best treated as a feature-length movie. Seriously, what're you waiting for? Go watch it and listen to us talk about it!

A brutal, harrowing experience to watch, The Last of Us shows that there actually ARE some video games that have good stories and this turns out to be a faithful adaptation that adds enough new elements that allow it to stand apart from the source material in a way that feels natural, confident, and carries a high degree of polish.

This series is so good I didn't even feel like typing any of our normal dumb jokes into here. No need. Seriously, it's that good. We break down each episode (well.... episodes 1-7 at least) and we'll cover the conclusion on our next podcast! Clearly we're over two hours here, we had to call time at some point. But it’s not all glowing neon gloom and doom! CyberPunk Edgerunners is out on Netflix and it turns out to actually be a really, really solid and well made anime. MUCH of an improvmenet over that mess of a game that CD Projket Red put out a few years ago (yes I know they’ve patched it a bunch, it’s just not very fun to play). As it turns out, well -written characters that you care about and performances from people that don’t sound like they’ve just been woken up from a mid-morning nap (looking at you Keanu Reeves) makes for an interesting formula! WHO WOULD’VE THOUGHT THAT????!!

Also the boys talk about Tom Hanks saying he’s only been in 4 good movies (and what they think they are…. let’s face it, it’s gotta be Turner and Hooch), James Earl Jones is officially retiring from acting…. kind of….. and more!

Ryan is about to have a kid at literally any moment and Jake is getting married in the extremely near future so, our upload schedule is going to be a bit hit and miss for the time being.

Does that mean that we're skipping on the quality of our podcast? Well if you have a listen to this episode I think that the answer to that will be extremely obvious that it's exactly in line where it's been pretty much this entire time. Does that mean that some of the news items that we're talking about will probably be 1-2 old by the time that we're getting around to talking about them? You bet your ass they are.

Disney, Nintendo, and Sony all had some pretty big press conferences about their future plans. Yes- literally all of this is old news at this point. If you're really tuned into this kind of stuff, you've probably already seen what they have on offer. But we try and recap most of it!

Ryan also had a special request that we just couldn't refuse this week. Willy's Wonderland was his #1 movie of 2021 and we've finally got around to dedicating an entire episode to it- turns out it is VERY much worth it. If you haven't watched it before- give it a shot! It's dumb as hell, but man oh man is it a good time.

Nor would same gigantic corporate then take same beloved franchise that they gave what some people would call "a soft reboot" of old material and made a new thing, and then to follow it up actually make something that is new and interesting! That second attempt surely wouldn't turn out to be perhaps the best entry in beloved franchise that has been around for a while, but makes some angry people on the internet upset would they?

Nor would said gigantic corporation then actually make the foolish mistake of listening to angry people on the internet and then follow up a great idea with a bunch of terrible bad ideas, fire multiple film directors, bring back the first director and then scour Reddit for some weird fan theories, throw all of that in a blender and make a third installment in a trilogy. NO ONE WOULD BE CRAZY ENOUGH TO DO THAT RIGHT?

This week Almost Accurate is back to compare and contract two EXTREMELY different series. Couldn’t guess? Well no worries, it’s She Hulk and Only Murders in the Building! 

One is a well-established series that is concuding its second series on Hulu, and another is just barely getting underway on Disney +. Turns out, they couldn’t be more different and Jake and Ryan have PLENTY to say about how they turn out.

Which in case you want to peer through all the right wing bullshit about this being a woke movie because it dares to depict a semi-accurate view of life in the early 1700's before English settlers had conquered what would become the United States, it's actually an interesting, fun take on what a Predator movie in the early 1700's would actually be like. Spoiler alert: it's fun. It's a wonderful, well- acted and well scripted movie and we are actually quite happy to have partaken in it. Apparent 'woeness" and all, Prey is a solid and fun action horror movie, and we honestly couldn't be happier to recommend it to you all!

We don’t talk about Shark Week on this episode whatsoever, we just are trying to get into the spirit of the season. But good lord are there a bunch of new things to talk about! 

We’ve still been playing Stray and that game is incredible, and wraps things up witha delightful little ending. Sometimes it’s great to just kick back and pretend to be a cat for an afternoon. Makes for some great stories. And you’ll make a lot of robot friends in the process too! 

Umbrella Academy realeased their season 3 something like 14 years ago it feels like, and we’re finally getting around to watching it and talking about it! What an upward trajectroy this show has been on from that absolutely drab and lackluter first season to now! If you haven’t watched this show, don’t sleep on it. It’s amazing and season 3 is the best one yet! 

Marvel also detailed their upcoming Phase 5 and 6 and they will NEVER EVER stop releasing new content. We break down the entire list and nearly lose our voices in the process. Yeah, there was a lot to get through on this week’s episode. 

It’s a shame to still be over Zoom but that’s just the way it goes nowadasys folks. We hope to be back to some in person recording soon!

It's a not so complex movie that has a more complex than needed impact that it's made on modern pop-culture, but Top Gun is still a movie that is deserving of a watch in 2022 if you haven't seen it before (and you're interested in seeing that long anticipated sequel). Switch Sports is out and it's insane that Nintendo has waited this long to put this collection of games out. How does it stack up to the original on the Wii? Well.... it's a game alright, and it's fun! 

How does Moon Knight stick the Egyptian landing? It's also well worth the wait, and nice to see Marvel taking a bit of a risk with something a little off kilter for once as well.

So is this the worst movie they've covered on the podcast? No, it certainly is not. Is it an instant classic that is undeserving of all of the negative reviews that have been floating around about it? Well let's not get carried away here... we do have Matt Smith running around the London Underground in orthopedic sketchers pretending to be a vampire so it does warrant a certain amount of criticism let's be honest. No, Morbius is one of those weird movies where it's not quite bad enough to just hate on it the entire time as being this strange bastardization of the source material, but it also cannot possibly be viewed as a stand alone piece of media to be appreciated either. Morbius straddles that strange middle ground where it's a bad movie that seems as if it's missing a second (potentially better, potentially worse) half, and we may never truly know which way this could've gone. 

The boys also have a spoiler-free and brief recap of the first two episodes of Marvel's Moon Knight, and Jake had to do a bit of dumpster diving in the name of love this week, so there's also that to keep all of you satiated....

Yeah we watched Hulu's The Dropout this week and all jokes about Elizabeth Holmes' voice aside this is a GREAT drama series. There is a real glut of con-artist media floating out there at the moment, but this is a great one to start with. It is so well acted, and covers such an insane story so well, it's a big recommend from your resident podcasting experts down here at Almost Accurate HQ. That's four thumbs up (because you know, two of us on this show) for The Dropout!

Spoiler Alert: This is a great game and it's SO fun to play. That's really all we're going to spoil for you in this more in-depth review than we gave during last week's episode, but it's a true testament to the design, creativity, and just sheer beauty of this game that it warrants a second week and a second visit into it's world. That photo mode too... baller. Is that a dated reference? Is it still cool to refer to stuff as baller? We don't care. The Super Bowl was last Sunday (you know, in case you live under a rock... or just in a place outside of the United States where you're not quite sure what the big deal is but you've heard of the Super Bowl before, but you're not quite sure why they use Roman numerals even though the majority of Americans actually have to Google what Super Bowl number it is this year because you know... Roman numerals.. and you know.. Americans). THERE ARE A TON OF TRAILERS TO RECAEP. 

Moonknight! DC 2022 Recap! Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness! That Jurassic World sequel where they got Laura Dean and Sam Neal back in addition to Chris Pratt who's in literally everything right now! 

Not to be outdone by things that have been done before but are getting a second (and third probably) chance, Cyberpunk 2077 is back and it's finally running on next-gen consoles! The boys sample the Cyberpunk Demo (the first 5 hours are free right now) and let you all know their thoughts, especially how it compares to the awful and broken mess that CD Projekt Red rolled out in December of 2020. 

Lastly, (but certainly not least-ly... or Eaglely...) Jake and Ryan have started watching HBO's Peacemaker, and what a show. Really... going into this not having any expectations and being pleasantly surprised by how GOOD it actually is... you can't beat that. You can't even SEE that. Peacemaker (at least the first three episodes) is a big recommend from the boys. Check it out!

Turns out, Netflix has had some BANGERS drop in the last few weeks that are worth binging for sure! If you haven't watched Archive 81, you're in for an otherworldly adventure that will have you asking what exactly is happening right up until the very end. Jake watched Amy Adams' Woman in the Window and felt it was a fairly decent watch (if not a bit too long).

Then of course we have the longest titled TV show in recent memory, Netflix's The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Woman in the Window (starring Kristen Bel). What a goofy, strange adventure this turned out to be! Yes that one sex scene was pretty long. Yes they did it in every room in the house, y'all just calm down already. Seriously. It's fun, it's goofy, and it's for sure one that is deserving of a winter-time binge.

The boys discuss Netflix's somewhat ambitious and also somewhat low on quality production of BlackMirror: Bandersnatch (a personal favorite that I actually forgot that we did a review of) Happy Death Day (which is great), Glass (which isn't great), Solo: A Star Wars Story (which I guess it was a slow week, but a pretty decent movie it must be said), and another Netflix title- Velvet Buzzsaw. 

This was a particularly fun time period of the podcast because we really had no clue what we were doing (some folks would contend that we still don't) where we really just watched anything and reviewed anything we felt like, and just had fun overall. Also, the world wasn't quite the terrifying hellscape outside that it is at the moment either, so maybe we're just being nostalgic for a simpler time?? 

Enjoy this look back on the early days of Almost Accurate (because we all know you aren't scrolling back down the list that far) and enjoy each of our review sections, all cut together in this one package. We had fun cutting this together, and we hope you have fun taking a Velvet Buzzsaw down memory lane with us.

There's a new Star Wars game afoot. Is it going to be any good after we saw that Quantic Dream logo at the end of it? Well if you like walking and talking and a couple of QuickTime events then you probably are going to. We also saw an amazing Arc Raiders trailer which looked greater, but we're still trying to decided whether that seemed like a fun game to play, or if it was just a wonderfully nostalgic Atari influenced piece of media. 

Also, what about Nicholas Cage playing Nicholas Cage in his new Nicholas Cage Movie, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (starring Nicholas Cage playing Nicholas Cage). Man, what a trailer that was. Also, that wall seemed small enough they both could've probably just walked around that. I'm sure that'll be addressed in the full movie.

The boys have watched the documentary Framing Britney Spears and boy oh boy do they have some opinions about the absolute rot that we just witnessed in terms of filmmaking and storytelling. Seriously people, if you aren't familiar with the Britney Spears story, it's worth a watch. Hell... even if you aren't familiar with it, it's shocking to see everything that has transpired behind the scenes of such a well-known public figure. 

The boys (well, one of them at least) also watched Love and Monsters, a surprisingly fantastic and well made film staring Dylan O'Brien and a dog serving an apocalypse where bugs get real big and try to eat you, and maybe there's a girl you made out with 6 years ago that you're willing to risk your life to see again. But hey, like we said earlier, no spoilers.

The Falcon and the Winter Solider had a BIG trailer that released during the Super Bowl, and it looks like Bob Odenkirk made an appearance there too. His daughter was missing a kitty bracelet or something and he's trying to make the perfect lasagna. Fast 9 has a new trailer and it sure seems like... family? Magnets? Something is going on there for sure.

Fresh off a week-long break the boys have a bunch of news to catch up on. 

Is Godzilla going to fight Kong? It sure looks like it. Is Eddie Murphy Coming 2 America (back to America)? Yep. Did any of you ask for a sequel to that? Like honestly, did you? Is Netflix really quick to snap up the rights to make a GameStop stock (GameStonk) movie and or TV series? You bet they are. Also- Billy Crystal appears to have a difficult time explaining the difference between a TV series and a movie. Like seriously. It happened and it's in print. 

Last but not least, WandaVision! Four episodes in and the boys give their takes on this sitcom turned..... MCU series? However you want to slice it, it's a little old, and a little new for Marvel and the boys certainly are of the opinion that it's a good thing.

Boy oh boy does this hold up. The boys are almost reticent to tell you to listen to this episode if you haven't seen the movie already, because this is truly an instant classic. Probably one of the more dry and analytical episodes they've done so far, but if any movie deserves it, it's this.

The boys are back, just like the Clone Wars. Season 7 time baybayyy. They totally finished it, and probably added some new stuff into it, what do you think about that?
