3 Dads Walking... and Talking

Just before they set off on their third walk, Tim, Mike and Andy of the 3 Dads Walking hang up their boots and have a sit down to chat about memories of their previous walks across every corner of the country, their incredible fundraising of over £1 million which greatly supported PAPYRUS' HOPELINE247 helpline go 24/7, their Pride of Britain award, and most importantly their three daughters Emily, Beth and Sophie that they sadly lost to suicide.

The Dads set off on their 'Walk of Hope 2024' on the 17th April. Starting at the Stirling PAPYRUS Office, their 25 day trek takes them down the east of the country to finish at Norwich Town Hall on the 11th May. How can I create a suicide safety plan?

Why is it so important to have your voice heard as a young person? February marks Children's Mental Health Week, with this years topic being "My Voice Matters". Sophie from HOPELINE247, Lucy Oliver from Merseyside Youth Association and Siobhan Keating, a young person's advocate, all discuss the importance of encouraging young people to speak up and find the power in their own voice.

In light of a new video campaign between PAPYRUS, MYA, YPAS and CAMHS, this episode also discusses safety planning, a collaborative tool between a young person who is struggling with thoughts of suicide and a trained suicide prevention adviser, describing what one is and how it works.

ADHD and suicide with Tanya Bardsley

On World Suicide Prevention Day, we will be releasing an animation created by Blue Zoo, called ‘Sinking Feeling’. Sinking Feeling explores themes such as isolation, loneliness and suicidal thoughts, highlighting the importance of reaching out to support those around you.

We caught up with the team from Blue zoo earlier this week via Zoom to learn more about the incredible animation they have created and the processes behind the masterpiece. In this podcast we discuss how the animation came about, the process of creating the animation including stylistic choices, the themes and messages explored in the animation and why creating this animation means so much to those involved at Blue Zoo.

PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide’s chief executive, Ged Flynn, is joined by Mo Wiltshire (Stonewall), Alex Woolhouse (Mermaids), Reverend Jide Macaulay (House of Rainbow), Professor Katherine Johnson (RMIT University), and Finn Greig (Gendered Intelligence), in celebration of LGBT+ History Month.

In this podcast, the panellists talk about suicide prevention in the LGBT+ community, why LGBT+ History Month is important and what it means to them. We also address key themes of shame and stigma in both the LGBT+ community, and within suicide prevention.

We look at the importance of sharing our stories, of telling our own histories, and how – as a society – we can be better allies. It’s a conversation filled with hope – filled with both lived, and living experience – and an extremely important conversation to have in order to smash the stigma around suicide, and make it part of everyday conversation
