Anyway, Kei gets the spotlight in this episode as she learns how to raise a baby on the side of a mountain, while Yuri gets to play with all the new toys that the Pair acquired after blowing up the Lovely Angel at the end of the second series. That includes a brand new dang ol' Lovely Angel! It looks cool as hell! Let's all agree that this rules. The rest of the episode is all very straightforward. Twists? Turns? Not necessary, there's guns and explosions now. Did we enjoy it? Probably more than we expected!

Unexpected, perhaps, is the colossal muscle woman who drives the action of this episode, yet another example of the 3WA cleaning up its own mess, and another example of Kei having to fight a giant muscle lady (remember when the Pair fought a pair of professional wrestlers over ownership of a cat? Look, maybe you could argue that this episode is also about Kei and Yuri doing cool commando shit and fighting a warlord and his army. I'll allow that such an episode, or at least parts of it, exist here. But also there's the whole plot where a rich guy allergic to women built a sex doll and then hires the 3WA to track down the persons responsible when that doll is inadvertently destroyed. You can't deny that all happens in this episode too, even though it seems like these should have been two different episodes.

But they aren't. They aren't! And we talked about that. And we talked about the Laserdisc format. And Metal Gear Solid (of course). And a meal. A succulent meal.

What day is it? Oh, okay. The Next Episode of the Podcast, which is the first of the Recording Session Where I was Sick, will go up on January 25th. I'm sure you're all looking forward to hearing my husky voice.

Episode 18 is all about corrupt police running drugs, which they treat as a big deal in this episode but to which we say "yeah, that's just the LA County Sheriff, whatever, jog on mate." But this episode breaks through our tough cynical exteriors by being extremely comedic, with some of the best back-and-forth dialogue in the series and, we're totally not kidding, an actual good male co-star for the Lovely Angels to bounce off of. Oh, and Gooley is here too, getting involved and doing his best to keep the Lovely Angels from getting shot by cops.

It isn't their usual fare, but sometimes some heavy things happen in Dirty Pair so we're warning you ahead of time: yes, someone kills himself and yes, there is an extremely uncomfortable scene between Kei and an assailant that reminds us that 1980s culture was in fact full of this kind of misogyny and assault-as-flirting(maybe? Don't know why they depicted it this way if they just wanted to establish that--look, it doesn't matter, it's in there and it's bad and you should know ahead of time that it's there).

Which is a shame, because this is otherwise an interesting episode that takes a more serious tone and has a mystery and a manhunt at its core. Also this podcast episode has a very brief discussion of Alan Wake II along with a reminder to ourselves that hey, SuperEGO was a fantastic podcast. We also get into the nitty and/or gritty of commercial space travel, drug addiction, and codebreaking.

And melodicas. Melodicae? Those keyboards what you blow into.

Next episode features cops, cops, and more cops! They all suck. You can find out the hows and whys of their suckitude when the podcast returns on December 28th, just in time for the New Year.

What is important is that this is the beginning of Project P.O.D., where two brothers sit down to watch through the classic 1985 anime, Dirty Pair. This first episode, which is the second episode we recorded but the 0th episode in the podcast feed is a brief explanation of what we're doing here (watching an anime and talking about it) and why (we got bored), along with a brief discussion about the origins of the Dirty Pair and its storied history as a series of light novels, an anime, an OVA, a movie, and then another anime that is sort of the same but different.
