With no game to discuss this week thanks to the impromptu international break, Adam leads the panel on a preview of the run-in and Grimsby’s final eight games. What impact will injuries have? Which are the crucial fixtures and who will prove to be Town’s key players?

With help from the “Fishy Predictor” the guys then have a go at guessing the final standings and it’s fair to say the discussion raises an eyebrow or two! They also react to the news Harvey Rodgers has signed a new two year deal with the club and our season preview guests Gab Sutton and Matt Dean return to give their valued opinion on how Town’s season may pan out.

Whichever way you look at it, there are plenty of twists and turns still to come so strap in!

Thunder Road

Grimsby have played a further three times since we last recorded so Chris and the panel waste no time examining the six points gained from a possible nine over the last week, keeping The Mariners in a play-off berth for now. Why were we so flat at Oldham? And despite winning both games, why did the score-lines against Fleetwood and Barrow perhaps not tell the full story?

The guys then go on to discuss the untimely injuries to Charles Vernam and Evan Khouri and debate whether the impending international break will prove a help or a hinderance with just eight games left to play.

Cold Dreaming

Grimsby made a return to the play-off places for the first time since November this week after another vital four points were gained against fellow promotion hopefuls Salford and Bromley. The panel start by dissecting the back to back home games, the clinical nature of our goals against The Amies and our endeavour against the league leaders. The guys then debate the conflicting styles of Grimsby and Saturday’s visitors Bromley and which of the clubs might have the last laugh before discussing the recently announced contract extension of poster boy Charles Vernam.

In Part Two the guys are joined by Oldham disability liaison officer and freelance journalist Aaron Diskin who provides an depth insight on how the Latics have faired on their first season back in the football league after a 3 year hiatus and why next weekend’s visit to Boundary Park will be far from easy for The Mariners.

Town bounced back from the disappointment of last week’s defeat at Bristol Rovers with a statement win over an in form Notts County side at Meadow Lane. The panel begin by dissecting the team performance but also that of individuals such as the returning Jayden Sweeney and Maldini Kacurri and match winner Charles Vernam. The guys then give their thoughts on the controversial red card for County’s Lee Ndlovu and the ongoing debate over young striker Judre Soonsup-Bell; is he doing a self-less job for the team or not doing enough to contribute in games?

The conversation then moves on to recent interviews given by ex-Town players Max Crocombe and John McAtee and the surprising effect Grimsby has seemingly had on both of their careers before attentions turn to another potentially pivotal week ahead for The Mariners; Salford and Bromley fans Danny Shepherd and Andrew Miller helping preview back to back home games in Town’s on going search of a play-off place.

Out Of Gas

The Mariners unbeaten start to 2026 finally came to an end on Saturday, going down 3-1 at relegation threatened Bristol Rovers. Host Matt and the panel begin by dissecting that and the mid-week draw with Walsall before exploring our new Achilles heel of defending set-pieces, the impact squad rotation may have had on performances and how much we may rue points dropped against teams in the bottom half. The guys then discuss the biggest takeaways from the recent fans forum and have their say on the thorny issue of the Blundell Park pitch.

In Part Two Tom Wagstaff from the “Notts County Talk” Podcast joins the conversation to help preview Town’s trip to an in form Magpies side next Saturday and then the gang consider whether the play-offs are still a realistic aim for The Mariners with 14 games remaining.

Love And Squalor

The national media descended on Grimsby again this weekend with the arrival of Premier League side Wolves in the FA Cup 4th Round but sadly it was the Blundell Park pitch that stole the headlines and almost ruined the game as a contest. The panel begin by discussing the 1-0 defeat and how the state of the pitch may well have hindered Town more than their supposedly superior opposition. The guys then also look back at the important league win over Accrington mid-week which took them to within a point of the play-offs and the impact Maldini Kacurri and Tyrell Sellars-Fleming had on their first starts for the club.

In Part Two, and in true football cliché style, the pod begin to ‘concentrate on the league’ and assess The Mariners play-off hopes and ambitions. Is seventy points a realistic aim? Will a larger squad allow Artell to keep players fresher for longer? And psychologically, is it easier to be the hunters rather than the hunted?

Chasing The Pack

From a broken record to breaking records! Town’s 2-0 win at Cheltenham this weekend was their fourth consecutive win in the league and their fifth clean sheet in a row, the first time they’ve achieved such a feat since December 1997. The panel begin by reviewing the game and drill into the reasons why and how The Mariners have managed to continue their recent upturn in form. They then go on to elegize over the departure of club captain Danny Rose to Barrow this week but was it the right time to let him go? Honey, We Stung The Bees

Town’s unbeaten start to 2026 continues and the guys return to catch up on back to back league and cup wins at Blundell Park. Frozen Ambition

The Mariners recorded three clean sheets, two wins and a draw over the Christmas and New Year games providing a late stocking filler for the Town faithful. Chris and the panel ring in 2026 by reviewing the unbeaten period starting on boxing day with the 0-0 draw against Oldham, a game perhaps best remembered for the potentially pivotal return of Jayden Sweeney from injury. They then move their attention to the crucial, albeit scruffy, 1-0 wins over Shrewsbury and Fleetwood, the impact Soonsup-Bell and David Turi have made in the starting XI and the new-found solidity at the back provided in no small part by loan keeper Jackson Smith.

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like... Last Season!

This week It’s the VFTF works Christmas do and you’re all invited along! Returning host Chris has put some money behind the bar, Charles Lumley has provided the venue and Paul Savage has provided the booze and they are the panellists to guide us through Part One of tonights special festive edition of the pod. The guys begin by discussing another winless afternoon for the Mariners at Bromley and the questionable team selection of David Artell, a manager that’s arguably been afforded too much patience up to now or perhaps he’s only just in the ascendency of a long term project aligned with the owners? The fan base appears split on the answer to that conundrum.

In Part Two Steve Young and Dave Laister join the party to have a wider look at the season so far and debate whether or not we have made any significant improvement from this time last year. And then they turn their attention to the impending January transfer window and how Artell and co may go about changing the fortunes and inspiring a squad currently devoid of all confidence.

Matt Dannatt is on hosting duties for the first time this week and with help from the panel he wastes no time in tackling the biggest talking points from another disappointing home defeat for the Mariners, this time going down 2-0 to 2nd placed Notts County and in many ways the ninety minutes were a microcosm of Town’s season so far. Are the underlying performances still good enough to give fans hope that results will eventually be reflective? Or does three points from a possible twenty-one now mean more urgent change is required to arrest the slump, whether that be individually or tactically?

Episode 100 - A Change is as Good as a Rest

To mark the 100th episode of VFTF, regular host Chris swaps places with panellist Adam and the latter wastes no time in garnering opinion on Town’s 2-1 home defeat to Tranmere under the lights at BP last Thursday. Was Pym at fault for their opener? What’s going wrong in defence? And has a rejuvenated Darragh Burns finally won his shirt back after a MOTM display?

The guys then go on to discuss David Artell’s second anniversary as Mariners boss and what progress the club have made on and off the pitch during his tenure before rounding off this centenary episode with a look ahead to the visit of National League side Wealdstone in the FA Cup 2nd Round next Saturday. Can Town avenge the 1-0 home defeat to the same opposition in the FA Cup last season?

I Am The Resurrection

Town had to come through two down to rescue a point at high flying Swindon on Saturday but by doing so they showed real resilience and the panel begin by discussing whether or not the positive reaction of the players in the first half could potentially be looked back upon as a pivotal moment in the season come May. The guys then go on to discuss our defensive injury concerns and the affect that could be having on an over reliance of key players, the reasoning behind the signing and subsequent performance of emergency loan keeper Richard O’Donnell and the underrated importance and impact of Darragh Burns on the dynamic of the side.

In Part Two the guys speculate as to which of the players out of contract next summer are the most important to tie down on longer deals and then turn their attention to the visit of Tranmere next Thursday, a more unusual date and KO time courtesy of the Sky Sports cameras rolling back into town…

A Rush of Blood to the Head

Grimsby’s game on Saturday had to pass a late pitch inspection due to the heavy rain but come the evening many Town fans were perhaps wishing it hadn’t having seen their side run out 1-0 losers at home to play-off rivals Chesterfield. The panel begin by discussing another positive performance by The Mariners but question the resilience of the team as they hit the self-destruct button yet again, Christy Pym seeing red for a professional foul which proved to be the turning point in the game. The guys dissect that key incident among other talking points from the game before reflecting on the performances of two Grimsby players away on international duty at present, notably David Turi scoring for the Faroe Islands and rubbing shoulders with Croatia’s Luka Modric.

In Part Two Swindon Advertiser journalist Joe Acklam returns to the show to help preview Town’s trip to The Robin’s next weekend and a re-acquaintance with old nemesis Ian Holloway who’s side sit ominously top of the table...

Stuck On The Puzzle

A point gained or two dropped? That age old adage reared it’s ugly head again after Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Barrow but the guys start by looking at what might have been having watched The Mariners race into a two-goal lead and dominate proceedings throughout. They then go on to discuss the effectiveness of Artell’s formation and personnel changes, the impact of a returning Danny Rose and the reasons keeping the team back given the amount of chances they continue to create.

Ebb And Flow

After a much-earnt week off the guys return to catch up on three games in three different competitions for the Mariners over the past seven days. First the panel debate the defensive make up and fragility in the 3-2 league defeat at Crewe last Saturday. Then they turn their attentions to the 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Premier League Brentford in the Carabao Cup last sixteen on Tuesday and the ruthless nature of the visitors finishing. And lastly they discuss the 1st Round FA Cup game with non-league Ebbsfleet in which it took another sending off for the opposition before the Mariners got going, eventually coming from behind to win 3-1. What factors contributed to the side’s lacklustre first half performance and how did the returning Danny Rose and Jason Dadi Svanthorrson fair after starting alongside each other for the first time this season?

Remeao, Remeao, Wherefore Art Thou Remeao

Grimsby bounced back from the disappointing home defeat at the hands of Colchester last weekend with an improved display back at BP against fellow promotion hopefuls Gillingham but they were helped on their way by an opponent being reduced to nine men for the second time this season. The panel begin by focusing on the encouraging opening half an hour performance by the Mariners whilst it was still a level playing field, the impact three changes to the starting XI made and then assess just how many of the pivotal decisions the referee got right.

In Part Two, BBC Radio Stoke’s Graham McGarry helps the guys preview Town’s trip to Crewe next weekend; will David Artell be able to get one over his old club again and lump yet more pressure on Lee Bell in the opposite dugout?

Town returned to Blundell Park buoyed after their impressive win at Salford and were looking to record three straight wins for the first time all season, but alas, it wasn’t to be and our inconsistent home form reared it’s ugly head again. The guys dissect the defeat to Colchester, the effects of Danny Cowley’s touchline antics, how and why Town stopped playing again after a bright opening half an hour and look on enviously at the impact U’s striker Micah Mbick had on the game.

Eye Of The Storm

Town return to winning ways on the road and regular host Chris returns to look back at another impressive performance by The Mariners, this time at much fancied Salford in the heavy wind and rain. The panel begin by discussing the evolution of the side’s away performances, how scoring “way too early” in games is no longer something to dread and the continuing form of a rejuvenated Charles Vernam. The guys then discuss the greater squad depth available to manager David Artell now and how that might effect the way we can set up against differing opposition and the under rated assurance keeper Christy Pym and defender Cameron McJannet are bringing to the side.

In Part Two, sports writer Jon Waldron from the Essex Daily Gazette joins the conversation to help preview Colchester’s visit to Blundell Park next weekend and sheds light on why the U’s have struggled in the league so far this season… That is until yesterday when they thumped Chesterfield 6-2, typical!

Wake Me Up When September Ends

It was a week of mixed emotions for the travelling Town faithful with success on the road at Hillsborough on Tuesday night, claiming another scalp in the Carabao Cup – this time Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, but then a humbling 3-0 defeat at Barnet in the league on Saturday, our first away from home all season. The guys begin by commending the players after prevailing in an unusual game and atmosphere mid-week but then turn their attentions to the more worrying display on Saturday and one that David Artell described as “abject”. Why is there a downward trend in performances? How much are we contributing to our own downfall? And how much do we miss the influential Kieran Green when he’s unavailable?

In Part Two, journalist Jon Palmer from Gloucester Live joins the show to help preview the visit of bottom club, and now manager-less, Cheltenham Town to Blundell Park next weekend.

Out Of Nothing

The Mariners were left frustrated by stubborn opposition for a second home game running on Saturday, Justin Amaluzor’s injury time equaliser rescuing a point against Cambridge Utd. The panel dissect a disjointed performance devoid of any real quality and debate whether it was “just one of those days” or if there are any underlying concerns with our performances at home. They then discuss Artell’s and the players in game management, whether there is a perceived lack of a Plan B at present and how much another poor reffereeing display contributed to our downfall.

In the second half of the show the guys turn their attention to Tuesday nights 3rd Round Carabao Cup tie at Sheffield Wednesday, a club currently in turmoil on and off the pitch and then Bees fan and sports writer Trevor Knell joins the conversation to help preview Town’s trip to newly promoted Barnet on Saturday…

The Hangover

After their cup heroics against Man Utd mid-week, Town were brought back to earth with a bump on Saturday; visitors Bristol Rovers inflicting The Mariners first defeat in all competitions this season. The panel start by dissecting a perhaps understandable lethargic first half display and then discuss the impact substitutes George McEachran and Darragh Burns had on a much improved second half performance which saw Town do everything but score an equaliser. They then touch on the circus surrounding the Utd win and its likely effects on the players, a questionable refereeing display and the positives to take into the second month of the season.

In part two the team speculate as to what deadline day business the club might do on Monday and which areas of David Artell’s squad still need strengthening, if any! And they finish by looking ahead to another test of the teams progress at big spending MK Dons next weekend...

The Mariners were on the road twice this week and followed up an impressive win at last seasons beaten play-off finalists Walsall in mid-week with a hard earned point at Accrington on Saturday. However, the guys begin by discussing what might have been in the latter game, Town again rueing missed chances and another missed penalty before allowing their lesser opponents a route back into the game. Is the lack of a ruthlessness becoming an issue for the team or is it a good sign we're creating chances consistently? Mentality Monsters

Grimsby kept up their unbeaten start to the season with two more home wins this week, first putting Shrewsbury to the sword in the Carabao Cup and then beating Newport in the league with goals in the very first and last minute of the game bookending another confident display. The guys start by discussing the strength and depth of the squad, the pleasing impact fringe players and substitutes are starting to have and how missing that clinical edge nearly came back to bite us on Saturday. Talk then turns to stand out individual performances, such as that of match winner Kieran Green who is the physical embodiment of the teams never say die attitude and then the small matter of drawing Man Utd in the second round of the cup!

In Part Two, EFL pundit Ed Walker joins the show to help preview The Mariners next two games against Walsall and Accrington and then gives his opinion on how Artell’s men have started the campaign, which Town player he is most excited about and which teams in League Two have impressed, disappointed and surprised him the most so far.

The Late Late Show

Buoyed by their opening day performance against Crawley, the Town faithful travelled in their numbers to Harrogate this weekend hoping the side would pick up where they left off but it didn’t quite go to plan. The panel start by discussing a sobering afternoon for The Mariners and try to pinpoint just where and how things went wrong in a crazy second half that saw all six goals scored within it. Nevertheless, the guys are in agreeance there were still plenty of positives to take away from the afternoon, not least the character and resilience of the players to come from 3-1 down and Jaze Kabia’s impressive late equaliser.

25/26 Season Preview Part One - With Guest Matt Dean

The View From The Findus Podcast are back for a third season following The Mariners and with it they aim to bring more opinion, extra analysis and added nostalgia! This week, in the first of two season preview episodes, Chris and the panel are joined by BBC Radio Humberside’s Matt Dean to help them look forward to the upcoming 25/26 League Two Campaign - the grass may have finally returned to Blundell Park but has it brought renewed optimism?

In an attempt to bring you back up to speed with everything that has been going on at the club over the last couple of months the guys go on to discuss accelerated expectations, the positivity surrounding the new kits, player ins and outs, current squad depth, the friendlies so far and the progress being made by the women’s team on and off the pitch.

Then in part two Matt becomes the interviewee for once and reflects on the highs and lows of reporting on Grimsby over his 27 year career to date; How does he prepare for his commentaries and interviews, which ex Town managers were the most difficult to deal with and what really happened with that David Turi exclusive last January?

Mariners Trust Special - With Chair Wayne Brightmore

The guys return with another bonus close season episode and this time they turn the spotlight on the Mariners Trust. Former Chair, and regular VFTF panellist, Paul Savage joins Chris for an in-depth chat with the current chair, Wayne Brightmore. Rightly or wrongly, the Trust have been thrust into the headlines recently off the back of the new ticket pricing re-structures and so we thought it was the perfect time to explore their relationship with the club further. Were they consulted on ticket prices? Why was the 5% Mariners Trust discount scrapped? And have the lines between the Trust and the club become blurred?

The guys finish by taking a look back at one of the Trust’s greatest success stories, ‘Operation Promotion’ which this year celebrates its tenth anniversary. Paul explains how it all came about and whether or not the money raised really did buy Omar Bogle...

Gavan Holohan Interview

Just when you thought it was safe to put down your headphones, the guys return with the first of their bonus summer content and another feature interview with an ex Grimsby player. This time it’s the turn of Irish heart-throb and all-round fans favourite, Gavan Holohan who became an integral part of the 2022 National League play-off winning side and then starred in the club's famous FA Cup run a year later. From nights out with Jimmy Bullard right through to playing against a World Cup winner, Chris and Adam take a look back over Gav’s 17 year career and one that doesn’t look like ending any time soon. Which Man Utd idol did he meet as a youngster and want to emulate? Who was his favourite midfield partner at Grimsby and how exactly did it feel stood over that penalty spot at Southampton? Something Just Like This - 24/25 Season Review

As the dust begins to settle on another season following The Mariners, Chris and the team take an hour to reflect on the highs and lows of the 24/25 campaign. Many tipped us to finish comfortably mid table back in August so surely ending the season as high as 9th should be seen as a success or is there a tinge of disappointment having come so close to securing a play-off place?

The guys look back at some of the defining moments, biggest talking points and stand out performers from the past 9 months and sprinkle in some alternative awards along the way; who in the squad surprised and disappointed the panel most, who was an unsung hero and was George McEachran the rightful winner of the club’s POTY? The guys sign off with their thoughts on the recently announced retained list and assess the positives ahead of next season.

The Next Horizon

So close, yet so far! Grimsby came within touching distance of a play-off place on Saturday but ultimately missed out thanks, in the most part, to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Wimbledon. The panel begin by discussing what might have been after a positive first half wasn’t capitalised upon and Town were left to rue missed chances after the break when old habits came back to bite them. How high on the priority list will defending set pieces be come pre-season and did David Artell leave it too late to make changes? The guys then touch on the imminent retained list and debate whether or not any of the out of contract players are worth keeping and then recap the final League Two standings, choosing the teams that surprised and disappointed them most.

In part two Lewis Duckworth, guitarist in local Grimsby band Kid Spirit, joins the show to tell us all about their origins, music influences and future plans. And as a season ticket holder at Blundell Park it would have been rude not to get his thoughts on the job Artell and co have done this year.

Winner Stays On

Grimsby travelled to MK Dons on Saturday knowing a point or more would keep them in the hunt for a play-off place and a hard fought draw is what they came away with. The panel begin by reviewing a largely forgettable game in front of another impressive following by the Town faithful, 2091 seeing The Mariners unable to record a shot on target despite arguably having the best chance of the game late on. The guys debate whether or not results are ultimately more important than performances at this stage of the season before having their say on the soon to be announced ‘Player of the Year’ and ‘Goal of the Season’ awards.

In part two, Chris Draper from the ‘9 Years Podcast’ joins the conversation to help preview the winner takes all showdown at Blundell Park next weekend against Wimbledon. Can either side arrest their disappointing end of season form to have a crack at the play-offs and, with a sell-out expected, will our panel manage to find tickets?

First But Never The Last - With Guest Kristine Green

Dead and buried on Friday, back to life on Monday! It was an Easter miracle for The Mariners as they just about stayed in the hunt for a play-off place despite a thumping home defeat against Swindon and relinquishing another 2-0 lead to draw at Port Vale. The guys begin by picking the bones out of an eventful bank holiday weekend which saw two surprising performances, albeit for differing reasons. Did Town contribute to their own downfall against a strong Swindon side and how did this latest capitulation compare to the one at Harrogate just a fortnight ago? The panel then go on to discuss Jake Eastwood and Charles Vernam’s recall to the starting XI at Port Vale and what impact they may have on the remainder of the season.

As well as all of that we also have, not one, but two guests on this week’s episode. First, stand up comedian and TV star, Ivo Graham gives his thoughts on the Swindon game before Kristine Green, Community Projects Manager of the GTFC Foundation and the first ever female board member at Blundell Park, tells us about all the good work going on behind the scenes at the club. And there might be an exciting pod announcement thrown in there as well so stay tuned…!

Blame Or Love Or Nothing

Grimsby picked up a point at Harrogate on Saturday, but to many it felt like a defeat having lead 2-0 until the last 5 minutes of the game and to make matters worse, closest play-off rival Colchester grabbed a late win at Newport. The guys begin by discussing their disappointment at the full time whistle but the conversation quickly turns to THAT Kieran Green goal; an audacious 75 yard strike from inside his own half. The panel then debate whether or not Doug Tharme going off in the second half was the turning point in the game and whether the surprising criticism levelled at him by manager David Artell was warranted.

In Part Two, Joe Acklam from the ‘Swindon Advertiser’ joins the show to help preview the two games over the Easter bank holiday weekend, starting with the return of ex Mariners boss and the much maligned Ian Holloway.

A Little Bit Closer

Another busy week saw The Mariners remain in the play-off hunt with a defeat at fellow promotion contenders Crewe followed up by a victory over struggling Morecambe at BP. Chris, Helen and Liam begin by discussing the absence of talisman Danny Rose on Tuesday night and how his return on Saturday underlined his importance to the team. They then dissect the win over the Shrimps, the comfortable nature of the result (in the end!) and the impact of a rejuvenated Kieran Green.

The other big news story coming out of the club this week was the announcement of the 25/26 season tickets and the price increase that has split opinion within the fanbase. The panellists debate the pro’s and con’s of the decision and speculate as to the potential fall out between the club and the Mariners Trust as a result.

In Part Two Rhys Howell from The Yorkshire Post helps preview what will undoubtedly be a big game next weekend for both Grimsby and Harrogate, albeit due to differing reasons.

Interrogation over with, the guys begin by discussing a comfortable win for The Mariners over Newport, the only downside being it wasn’t by a bigger margin. They then debate the reasons why Town could still make the play-offs or just as easily miss out. And all of that before Steve introduces a new feature - "Kit Watch!"

New Energy

Grimsby made it six games unbeaten this weekend notching a well deserved point at Cheltenham who, prior to the game, had been on an equally impressive run of form. The panel begin by dissecting an eventful game that saw, among other talking points, Jordan Wright make another penalty save and Harvey Rodgers grab the equaliser, vindicating his new found license to get forward. The guys then go on to discuss the full debut of Darragh Burns, a potentially pivotal run of fixtures coming up over the next fortnight and the 1.6 million loss in the publication of the latest club accounts released this week.

The Glimpse - With Guest Panellist Pete Green

Haddock was back on the menu on Saturday as Grimsby beat the Cod Army from Fleetwood 2-1 to record their fourth straight win in the league. Chris and Steve are this week joined by a guest panellist in the form of esteemed writer, poet and musician Pete Green who helps the guys discuss the battling performance and two moments of quality from George McEachran and Denver Hume that proved the difference.

Inspired by Pete’s writing from his teens, Chris then asks about the origin story of Cod Almighty, their time editing the fanzine for over seventeen years and stand out memories from following The Mariners home and away through the 90's and 00's. Pete then very kindly reads one of their poems, ‘The Glimpse’ and introduces tonight’s interlude music, ‘The Ballad of Phil Jevons’... "How can I object to you if you score four times in an afternoon..."

In Part Two, Gloucester Live journalist Jon Palmer returns to help the guys preview Grimsby’s tricky looking trip to Cheltenham next weekend, another of the leagues in form teams.

Grimsby backed up their impressive win at Bromley last weekend with an equally impressive performance and result at home to Carlisle this Saturday, showing perseverance to come from behind and win 2-1. The panellists begin by discussing the growing benefits of this recent switch in formation, a dominant attacking display and stand out performer Jason Dadi Svanthorrson. They then go on to debate the controversial penalty decisions in the game, why keeping Justin Obikwu fit and playing alongside Danny Rose could prove pivotal to our chances of a play off push and salute fan favourite Kieran Green on his 100th game for the club… and his new moustache!

Town took a much needed four points from a possible six this week scoring a last minute equaliser to draw against Gillingham at BP on Tuesday night and then securing an impressive return to winning ways on the road with a resolute 2-0 victory at Bromley on Saturday. The guys begin by telling the tale of four differing halves as the side’s inconsistency within games continues but hope their show of resilience may be a catalyst for an upturn in form. Sadly it was another away day to forget for Grimsby on Saturday as they succumbed far too easily to a struggling Barrow side. The guys begin the episode by looking back at the 3-0 defeat and try to understand why it might be going so wrong for the Mariners on the road. After a week off due to the postponed Notts County game the guys are fired up and ready to go and so it seems were the Grimsby players on Saturday as they raced into a 1-0 lead against Chesterfield. The panel discuss a topsy turvy game which saw the Mariners relinquish the lead later in the first half but then arguably deserve to have nicked a late winner with a spirited second half display.

Like many of the Town squad by all accounts, host Chris was struck down by illness last week and so there are two games for our panellists to catch up on tonight. Firstly the self-proclaimed play off battle with Crewe a week ago in which Town came up short with a 2-0 defeat and that is followed up by Saturday’s disappointing loss at Ian Holloway’s Swindon, and one that marked The Mariners much beleaguered ex managers 1000th career game. The guys pick the bones out of the back to back defeats and try to find perspective and context after what many described as our worst performance of the season to date. Dave Moore’s recently announced retirement is then touched upon before fellow Town fan and host of the ‘Fourth Tier Fever Podcast’ Jordan Richards joins the show to help preview Town’s busy Christmas schedule with four games coming up in just twelve days.

The panel begin by dissecting back to back wins in the form of a 5-2 demolishing of Accrington and a 3-0 victory at storm hit Morecambe. They look at what’s made the difference in the team’s performances, stand out players that have answered potential critics and whether or not they can live up to their current play off position going forward. The guys then discuss the youth team’s excellent 4th Round Cup win over Premier League academy side West Ham and then preview the visit of fellow high flyers Crewe next Saturday with help from Alex Irani of the 'Railwaymen Podcast'. The Mariners this week picked up where they left off at Carlisle recording an impressive win at league leaders Gillingham on Tuesday night but were brought crashing back to earth with a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to Doncaster on Saturday. The guys discuss at length the highs and lows from a week that very much encapsulates the season so far for Grimsby and then look ahead to our trip across the M62 to Salford next weekend, with the brilliant Danny Shepherd from the 'One Up Front' podcast joining the show to provide insight on the The Ammies.

It was an eventful afternoon in Cumbria for the Mariners as they came back from behind twice on Saturday to record their first away win of the season and their first back to back wins in the league for 18 months. The panellist’s begin by unpacking a chaotic match which included a first team debut for youth keeper Seb Auton after Jake Eastwood was stretchered off with a nasty injury and the potential physiological boost to an injury hit squad after such a milestone win. They then turn their attentions to a tough double game week ahead with a visit to top of the table Gillingham on Tuesday and home match with fellow promotion hopefuls Doncaster next weekend; Danny from The ‘Rambling Rovers’ podcast answering some questions on the latter.

Grimsby returned to winning ways on Saturday and it was only fitting they did with Blundell Park celebrating its 125th anniversary. The guys begin by discussing a different kind of win for the Mariners, grinding it out with only 10 men for the last 25 minutes of the game and standing resolute to record their first clean sheet of the campaign. After a first win of the season last week The Mariners were quickly brought back down to earth with a bruising 4-1 defeat at Notts County on Thursday night in front of the Sky TV cameras. Despite the loss the guys try to keep perspective, instead praising The Magpies and discussing lessons that could be learnt by the Town squad. They then discuss more injury woe and the impact losing Jordan Davis could have, the fortunate nature of County’s goals and where improvements may still be required. The guys return with another bonus pre-season interview and this time they are joined by the dulcet tones of former Grimsby striker Martin Gritton. As articulated and eloquent as ever, “Gritts” as he is affectionately known, talks hosts Chris and Adam back through his 14 year journeyman career, beginning with his more unusual route into the professional game. They then discuss his move from Torquay up to Grimsby on Christmas Eve of 2004 and reminisce about his time living in the area and playing in an exciting Russell Slade side that nearly achieved promotion a year later. Which player was he anxious to be re-acquainted with and who did he enjoy playing alongside the most? The guys then ask Martin about his career post Grimsby (including his move to local rivals Lincoln), what he does for a living today and his love for music, perhaps inspired by his brother Kevin– the drummer in 90’s rock band Adorable. And, most importantly of all, we find out what his Grimsby inspired Indie band would have been called!

Their inaugural guest is none other than ex Grimsby captain Craig Disley who is often still referred to as a modern day legend of the club. The guys go right back to the start of Craig’s 22 year career, discussing his time at Mansfield and Bristol Rovers and finding out how he became the player that arrived at Blundell Park in the summer of 2011. They then chat in depth about his six year stay with the Mariners detailing the highs and lows of the play off campaigns and his relationship with manager Paul Hurst. Who were his favourite players to play alongside in central midfield? What did he regret after promotion back to the Football League? And what moment in his career was special enough to rank alongside the birth of his children? (Just don’t tell his wife!)

They follow the season through to its conclusion and eventual safety for Artell’s men thanks in the main part to a change in formation and a more pragmatic approach to his playing style. Be sure to listen to the end of the episode as the lads conclude their first season as a podcast with the inaugural VFTF Awards; who at the club deserves special recognition (beyond Danny Rose!) and which member of the pod made the most bloopers?!

It has been another impressive week for Grimsby, extending their unbeaten run to 6 games with a 1-0 win against promotion hopefuls MK Dons and a 1-1 draw on the road at play off chasing Gillingham. The guys begin by reviewing both games, discuss the impact of Donovan Wilson and Justin Obikwu in the absence of Danny Rose, revel in the team’s newfound resilience and celebrate Gav Holohan’s 100th appearance for the club.
