This episode features an Interview with Graham Parker, its a career spanning interview that hopefully covers questions that he doesn't often get asked (check out the Clowns one !)

Graham Parker began his recording career in 1976 with Howlin’ Wind, backed by The Rumour, quickly establishing himself as one of the leading figures of the UK pub-rock and early new-wave era. Over the next five years, Graham Parker and The Rumour released a run of albums including Heat Treatment, Stick to Me, The Up Escalator, and Squeezing Out Sparks, all of which charted in the UK, with several reaching the Top 40, while Squeezing Out Sparks became his highest-profile release in the United States and his strongest performer on the Billboard 200. After leaving The Rumour in 1981, Parker continued as a solo artist, releasing a steady stream of albums throughout the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s on both major and independent labels. He reunited with The Rumour for new albums beginning with Three Chords Good in 2012, followed by additional studio and live releases, while also maintaining an active solo career. Through the 2020s, Parker continued to release new material, tour, and collaborate, remaining an active recording and performing artist through 2025, with a catalog spanning nearly five decades.

His Howlin' Wind debut album is subject of a terrific book by Jay Nachman (link attached...https://jaynachman.com/graham-parkers-howlin-wind/)

As usual the episode has a short biography of Graham and the Interview starts at 28:31 Minutes

Hosted on Acast.

This episode features The Stranglers and an Interview with Baz Warne who has been in the band for 25 years. Baz has written a book (No Grass Grows On a Busy Street) about his 25 years in the band and todays episode features our chat with him where he covers everything you would want, as a fan or simply as a listener. Its open, candid and genuinely fascinating about his time in the Band, some stories you may know but there are also things that Baz shares that maybe not as well know. The Stranglers whilst they have been going since 1974 have had a few incarnations and we cover those in the episode. The Stranglers are often pulled into the "punk" genre but in reality, most fans wouldn't see them in that area. The band have achieved 23 UK top 40 singles, 20 UK top 40 albums and the original lineup (from 1974-1990) reached no 2 with one of their most well known songs Golden Brown and the most recent lineup achieved a no 3 album with Dark Matters. We start the episode as always with a short biography of the band which covers mainly their studio output and Baz' interview starts at 34 minutes in to the episode if you want to go straight to that.

I have included the link to the Stranglers site where you can find details of Baz' book and tour announced yesterday.

https://thestranglers.co.uk/baz-announces-convivial-uk-tour-for-2026/

Hosted on Acast.

The Primitives were formed in Coventry in 1984 and after some initial line-up changes settled on the classic line up which had 4 singles in the UK top 40 including the number 5 hit “Crash”. They got early valuable support when Morrisey became an advocate. They split in 1992 but reformed in 2009 and continue to work together. Todays episode has a short biography of the band with clips of their songs and has an interview with Paul Court who has been with the band since the beginning. He is the Guitarist, singer and songwriter for the band. The band have had a fascinating journey right through to now and still tour with one due in November of 2025. Whilst the band will be known for the hit single Crash, they are so much more than that and have had a number of other hit singles and have a back catalogue that is impressive and our episode tries to explore that and their stories.

The latest episode (no 24) of the Uncharted Sounds podcast features a band you may not have heard of but may have heard their music, a true uncharted experience this one, its the band Ooberman.

Ooberman were formed in 1997 with an eclectic mix of sounds from bright & punchy to slower and softer described as “psychedelic folk prog pop”. They impressed Blur guitarist Graham Coxon who released their first single of his own label. And with a major label got a top 40 hit single. The band were initially Danny Popplewell – vocals, guitar, piano & violin, Andy Flett – guitar and backing vocals, Steve Flett – bass, Sophia Churney – keyboards and vocals, Alan Kelly – drums. Their biggest success single wise was Blossoms Falling which reached no 39 in the UK singles charts. As always their story has many twists and turns and is a genuinely fascinating story right through to what they are doing now and theres a sneak preview of that on the episode.

This episode features the Skids. The Skids were formed in the summer of 1977 in Dunfermline in Scotland and would go on to make two albums and seven singles before the end of 1979. Their most successful year was 1979 where they spent over half the year in the singles charts including their biggest song, the top 10 hit Into The Valley. You may also know their song The Saints Are Coming which was covered by U2 and Green Day.

Whilst they split in 1982 but reformed for a couple of years in 2008 and again in 2016 where they now still tour and have had more albums of new music, Burning Cities and Destination Dusseldorf, along with an Acoustic album reworking some of their songs.

This episode covers the entire history of the band, their music and their stories. Richard Jobson is interviewed (starts about 25 mins in but don't miss the bio of the band because it covers all their great songs, and a few you may not know !). He is very open and entertaining and there's plenty of anecdotes about the early punk years and his interactions with everyone around that time. You may know a few of the hits but his story goes much deeper than that and he covers the full history of the band including the tragic death of Stuart Adamson (The Skids Guitarist), how US & green day came to cover The Saints Are Coming, what he thinks of their catalogue, whats happening now, the personnel changes and everything else in between. Its an episode that is a fitting end to our Season 1. Season 2 starts again in the new year where we are starting to cover bands for the 90's so the Uncharted 90's ! As usual any feedback or 5 star reviews and comments are always reviewed and replied to. Thanks for downloading and listening we really appreciate it.

Martin & Noel

Hosted on Acast.

The Passions were a British-Irish post-punk/new wave band which formed in 1978 and disbanded in 1983. The Passions' music had Barbara Gogan's voice and Clive Timperley's guitar work. Their major chart hit, "I'm in Love with a German Film Star", was released as the band's fourth single on 23 January 1981The lyrics were written by Gogan about Steve Connelly, a one-time roadie for The Clash and Sex Pistols who had minor roles in several German films.

Todays Episode is an Interview with David Agar (Wardill) who played Bass in the band from 1980 - 1983 and tells us the real story behind the single, how the band got its name, how he was a part of Spandau Ballet (Not that one !) but his story about their name is a revelation. He also tells the story of the albums he made with them and how having a hit single impacted the band positively and negatively. Its ultimatley another story where the record company didnt have enough faith in the ban despite them selling 250,000 copies of their single in 3 days !. The Band worked with Producers Pete Wilson (The Jam), Nigel Gray (The Police) and Mick Glossop (The Skids). There are also stories of the 101'ers (Joe Strummers band before the Clash) and many others. I hope you enjoy the episode because you may not have heard of the band but I'm sure you will have heard their single but hopefully this episode shows they were much more than just a a "one hit wonder" as always happy to have your feedback.

Hosted on Acast.
The latest episode of the Uncharted 80's podcast features The Chords and an Interview with Chris Pope the main songwriter and guitarist in the band. The Chords exploded onto the music scene in the late 70's/Early 80's and were quickly aligned to the revival-led Mod Scene. They were quickly adopted by those fans and were support for the Jam very quickly after their first few gigs. In this episode Chris Pope, the lead songwriter and guitarist and vocalist tells the story of the band back then right through to his current format Chris Pope and The Chords UK. Its a story where the band shone brightly for a short time and then faded away and then were bought back to life by Chris. A Fascinating story and one to download and enjoy.

Hosted on Acast.
