Should I Be Preparing for A Financial Apocalypse?

The following is a fictional story of a financial apocalypse - a dramatic imagining of what the scenario might look like if all financial markets collapsed. This is NOT a true story. But it's designed to illustrate a point. Some people think that you need to start stuffing cash into your mattress and keep your wealth out of the stock market and the banks. Is this level of mistrust wise? Is it smart for anyone to liquidate assets to protect against out-of-control inflation?
Grant and Daniel take some time to break down the plot points of this dramatic armageddon and tease out what this would look like in reality, and then offer some practical, sober-minded tactics if you are really concerned about our economy deconstructing.

Being cautious isn't foolish. We are all stewards. So is it good stewardship to stockpile cash? Or are there better ways to protect those we love and live with peace of mind in these unprecedented times?

"Am I Resting Wrong?" | Making the Most of Your Time Off

Any loving parent would want their kids to develop strong character traits like selflessness, perseverance, and genuine compassion for others. What better way to grow these traits than through serving within a community?
In this installment, Mike and Grant share some practical wisdom from their experience as fathers and from years of serving in youth ministry. One of the primary ways to promote service in our kids is to model it ourselves consistently and be sure to explain why to your kids. Mike does this in many ways, but one way is by creating repeatable slogans within his family. For example, "Brantons put others before us. Brantons show respect in words and actions. Brantons give generously. Brantons listen, trust, and obey. Brantons work hard in all we do. Brantons speak truth."

Our encouragement to you is to develop some family mottos for your family. feel free to steal these, adapt them, or start from scratch based on your family values. What's most important is not to lose sight of who you want your kids to become.

Arizona is Paying for Private School! Unless this Petition Goes Through

Arizona has a new law that will provide thousands of dollars to families to help provide a better educational experience for students - but there are organizations trying to put a stop to it.
The Expanded ESA plan is designed to empower Arizona parents to choose the best educational option that fits their needs regardless of zip code or income. Today, Grant and Daniel take time to discuss why school choice is so important, and they talk through the petition that is out there trying to delay the expansion. These organizations are framing the petition as a way to protect public schools, but they are missing the point of the new law altogether.

Should You Manage a Vacation Property? with Shannon Kuiper

We have Shannon Kuiper on the podcast this week talking about managing Vacation Rentals! She is married to Jarred Kuiper, who is one of our Home Loan Advisors here at Stewardship! She manages seven houses in Scottsdale and has some crazy stories, and some good experiences! Managing vacation rentals gave her a lot of freedom in her life, as well as many phone calls and messages about “emergencies” at all hours of the day, and on Holidays. Shannon shares that she has learned that people that stay at an Air BNB still have a “hotel mind.” They expect 24-hour service, technicians on-site, housekeeping, etc. Part of her job is to manage people like the cleaning people, handyman, pool cleaner, electrician, etc.

If you are considering managing a Vacation Rental:

Count the Cost. You need to consider insurance, HOA fees, any extra fees, pool and yard maintenance, furniture, other start-up costs, replacements, and other unforced costs.
Consider the Commitment. It takes a certain type of person to manage a vacation home. You need to be able to deal with the emotional commitment as well as the time commitment. It is flexible, and Shannon is able to go on any vacation, but it is also a 24/7 job that never ends where you are dealing with a rental problem.
Consider all the unexpected things— You need Margin! Having emergency savings for each home is super important.

The One With The Family Argument | Thanksgiving Episode!

We all have that relative. You know the one. You know all of their opinions because they all but shout them from the rooftops.
It happens every year. You're waiting for the rolls to finish warming in the oven. You're refilling your cup with apple cider and then it happens. Someone mentions the president. Or COVID. Or Taxes. Or social issues. Here we go. Buckle up for another world-famous Uncle Grant Rant.
Half the room collectively rolls their eyes.

We've all been there. No family agrees on every single issue, we're just not made that way. So what is the best way to approach these potentially tense situations? For some of us, it's avoidance, we leave the room, try to nonchalantly change the subject. For others, it's go-time, first stop confrontation station!

No matter your approach, we could all stand to improve when it comes to the more controversial conversations within our holiday celebrations. After all, no one wants to foil the festivities.

In today's episode, Grant and Daniel confront the reality that no one fully agrees with everyone else on anything, and offer some practical wisdom on what you can do to ensure your conversations are led by love and result in a peaceful evening for everyone but the turkey.

Retirement is NOT the End | With Tim Reed

What do you see yourself doing in retirement? Are you playing three rounds of golf per day? Or are you seeing the sites across America in an RV? Are you relaxing on a beach with a coconut cup and a tiny umbrella or are you kicking back in a rocking chair on the wraparound porch of your cabin in the mountains?
For Tim Reed, retirement looks nothing like any of that! Though Tim took some time to recharge after 40 years of work in ministry and teaching at Arizona Christian University (formerly Southwestern Bible College), he had a different perspective on his retirement years. Tim. is now spending even more time investing in the lives of people than ever before. He is taking his experience, his time, and his love, and showing up for people in ways that would have been next to impossible if he had a full-time job or was raising kids - that's the beauty of retirement. Most of us have so much going on in our lives and our time spent discipling others, investing time and treasure into our churches are usually among the first things to go when we need to pare down. That's not necessarily wrong, life is made up of seasons, and we all have things that need our limited time and attention, but Tim has taken this chance to say no to the 9-5 and yes to sharing his life and resources with anyone he can! And you can too! So grab a coffee, a notebook, and a nice pen and check out this week's podcast all about stewarding every season of life.

Choosing the Right Type of School for Your Kids

There are so many decisions when it comes to sending your kids to school.
