I was born a woman. And I’m still a woman. That’s part of my identity. Now, does it mean that I have to procreate? Because I have a uterus, does it mean that I have to have a baby? Because I come from a line of women having sometimes 14 pregnancies, does it mean that I have to be a mother? Because I have a very maternal personality, doesn’t mean that I want to be a mom? We all lie. Lie to ourselves mostly. Big and little lies. Out of fear; to please our parents, then our teachers, our partners or friends...; to avoid confrontation and to face how we truly feel inside. It started early on for me. I became good at lying.

I used to sell shoes at Cole Haan on Bloor Street in Toronto, a shoe store. I was a sales associate. A fancy term to say that I was a salesperson. I didn’t last long. Though I was great at my job. Somehow it felt like acting....
