Easy Salt Dough Recipe:

2 Cups of plain flour

1 Table salt

1 Warm water

Combine the salt and flour in a bowl. Add Water: Slowly add the warm water, stirring continuously until the mixture forms a dough. Knead: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5–10 minutes until it is smooth, pliable, and no longer sticky. Shape: Roll out the dough and use cookie cutters, or mold it by hand to create shapes. Add Holes: If making ornaments, use a straw or toothpick to make a hole for hanging. Oven: Bake on a lined baking sheet at a low temperature (100°C / 200°F–250°F) for 2–3 hours, or until solid. Air Dry: Allow to air dry for 1–2 days, depending on humidity. Decorate: Once completely cooled and hardened, paint with acrylic paints and seal with a varnish or PVA glue to preserve.

Suzie speaks frankly about being a mother and the financial implications of that especially when she was no longer able/wanted to Nanny.

When Suzie took the plunge and decided to return to Nannying, knew her role had to tick certain boxes. She discusses her anxieties regarding returning including the complexities of taking a roles with older children versus a baby. Suzie compares the rewarding feeling of helping children meet their milestones, which really only comes from the consistency of Nannying, as opposed to social work where she was dipping in and out.

How can Nannies prepare the older children for their new sibling? When should the older children be told a baby is coming? What level of involvement should the older children be encouraged to participate in, in regards to preparing the new baby’s nursery, buggy, clothes etc.

In the penultimate episode of What The Nanny Heard Next Charlotte, Charlie and Millie interview Laura the childminder.

Laura explains how she became a mother 15 years ago. Going on to describe how she initially took her baby to work. Unfortunately, between all the grey areas and their expectations of Laura, the situation became untenable, leading Laura to take control and become her own boss. 

Laura has established herself in Surrey now only taking bookings via word of mouth. Life wasn’t always like that though,. Laura recalls the days of pounding the streets leaflet dropping! Those hours were all worth it since now she is a hands-on mum with the flexibility and control absent when Nannying.

Heidi is a Child Protection Social Worker for the council.

Heidi discusses her interpretation of safeguarding as well as her belief that multi-partner agencies should be fully empowered to make the correct decisions.

Heidi talks about the different levels of safeguarding and how Nannies can deem what is serious enough for her to be contacted. Some cases do not need to be escalated to her, the family could be supported by another agency - a school or nursery for instance.

Heidi offers advice to Nannies who may come across safeguarding issues, how to handle them and who to speak too.

Heidi and the ladies debate whether safeguarding training should be mandatory for all Nannies.

Age is completely irrelevant during this process, yes the ladies discuss the 'sweet spot' however, realistically no one knows or remembers what age they were potty trained.

Liz talks to us about her personal experiences and how we as Nannies can support both Mums and Dads that we believe to be suffering too. What is the role of the Nanny? Who should Nannies be speaking too if they suspect a parent is suffering from PND? How can the Nanny support the other siblings in the home.

As a good Nanny can your role just be a job?

The very nature of being a good Nanny means Nannies care, they want to help and go above and beyond. 

Charlotte, Charlie and Millie discuss how Nannies can create boundaries to prevent a job from becoming a life. Employers will always ask the question (whatever that question may be!) the question doesn't need to be answered straight away and it certainly does not have to be yes!

Nannies must think about themselves, their own families and their own lives. Especially since time passes so quickly when one is a Nanny.

Does Nannying have a shelf life? Nannies tend to put everyone else’s needs before their own so much so that Nannying can become emotionally and physically draining. Sometimes a vent to someone who fully understands is enough. Sometimes more drastic action is needed. The ladies discuss other types of jobs and how a Nanny’s skills are transferable.

Have the confidence to try another job or a different type of job, transfer those skills and take the pressure off!
