Dr. Bella Smith reveals the critical signs that signal you're in perimenopause, how it differs from relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S), and why understanding your body's fluctuations can transform your approach to training, recovery, and health. In this eye-opening episode, you'll discover the complex hormonal dance behind the menstrual cycle, how perimenopause mimics and overlaps with athletic burnout, and practical ways to recognize the early mental and physical symptoms. Dr. Smith breaks down common questions, from using ovulation strips to tailoring HRT, and why a personalized approach, not quick fixes, is the key to thriving during midlife. We break down the crucial role of nourishing your body with food, the importance of strength training to preserve muscle mass, and why rest is your secret weapon rather than a sign of weakness. Listen in for evidence-based strategies to manage symptoms, boost performance, and regain confidence, no matter your age or athletic level. This episode is essential for women experiencing menopause, athletes navigating hormonal changes, or anyone eager to understand how hormonal health impacts overall wellbeing and physical resilience.

Miles from Ordinary links

Miles from ordinary Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/Milesfromordinarypodcast

Jess's instagram - https://www.instagram.com/jesslearmonth/?hl=en-gb

Bex's instagram - https://www.instagram.com/bexmilnescoaching/

Drop us a voice note here - https://www.speakpipe.com/milesfromordinary

Dr Bella Smith

https://thewell-hq.com/about/bella-smith/

https://www.instagram.com/thedigitalgp/

https://www.instagram.com/thewell_hq/

https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-bella-smith-48542ab4/?originalSubdomain=uk

Hosted on Acast. A dynamic and influential voice at major international events, she is dedicated to amplifying athlete stories, promoting inclusion and championing the belief that sport is for everyone.

Within the episode Joanne takes us behind the scenes of what it really takes to bring an Ironman race to life.

Joanne shares the unseen preparation that goes into race announcing — from building carefully curated playlists to match the key emotional moments of race day, to the skill of conducting the entire event experience for athletes, spectators, and the wider race crew. We explore why recognising and celebrating every performance matters, not just the podium finishes, and how powerful the right words can be in shaping an athlete’s race-day memory.

Joanne also opens up about her journey into the role, the path that led her to the Ironman start line microphone, and what it’s been like carving out a space as a woman in a traditionally male-dominated environment. It’s an honest conversation about visibility, confidence, and the responsibility that comes with having a voice that thousands of athletes hear at some of the most defining moments of their sporting lives.

This episode is a must-listen for anyone curious about the human side of Ironman, the art of race-day storytelling, and the impact of inclusive representation in sport.

Joanne's Links

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tritalkingsport

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tritalkingsport/

X: https://twitter.com/JoanneMurphy_

LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/joanne-murphy-5ba98421/

Email Address: tritalkingsport@gmail.com

Website: www.tritalkingsport.com

Miles from Ordinary links

Jess's instagram - https://www.instagram.com/jesslearmonth/?hl=en-gb

Bex's instagram - https://www.instagram.com/bexmilnescoaching/

Drop us a voice note here - https://www.speakpipe.com/milesfromordinary

Hosted on Acast.

In this episode we get stuck in by discussing Jess's 3rd place finish at Vancouver T100. We talk about the training she did between San Francisco T100 to Vancouver T100 that allowed her to move onto the podium. From there we debrief Bex's ultra in Wales and discuss how she very nearly didn't make the start line. Making the topic of the week 'life hacks' very appropriate.
