There is so much more to costuming a movie than just picking out cool clothes for your actors to wear. Who are your characters!? What are their tastes? Where are they emotionally in the story and how does that affect the clothes they would pick for themselves in that moment?

And after you make all those important decisions, how do you keep it all organized for something as massive as a feature film?! It’s a lot, but luckily, for our movie, Natalie is a pro at making good, grounded choices and keeping it all organized. We’re gonna walk you through her entire process and give you some insights on how we kept our little apocalypse flick moving forward despite how crazy the script was.

The Art Department- without it, your film would be very dull, very flat, very boring. They are responsible for numerous tasks from research, to set design, to set building, to props - you know - basically all the visual elements of your film. This week, we are diving into our incredible art department team: Production Designer Kevin Rigdon and Art Director Trish Rigdon.

We’re going to talk through what it really takes to bring a film to life visually — from breaking down the script in pre-production, planning, sourcing, and designing every detail of the world. Then we’ll get into the craziness that is the final week before filming. Transforming a totally empty house into our movie’s primary location, AND yes, building a bunker out of a basement storage space is no small task.

We’re going to have a blast and spill all the secrets of how our team made this set look so darn good!

We're Making A Movie: Pre-Production with Alex D Lugo

Filmmaking is planning. A LOT of planning. Before you can roll a camera or bring your first crew member on board, there’s an enormous amount of pre-production work that has to happen. For us, that meant creating loglines, one-sheets, and location breakdowns to get a handle on logistics and scope. It’s a lot to manage, and while we’re lucky to have a four-person filmmaking team tackling it from every angle, not everyone has that kind of support system.

That’s where Alex D. Lugo and his platform FilmPro.ai come in. We’re going to sit down with Alex and talk all things film pre-production, and dig into what steps he sees as most important to getting a movie ready before the director yells action.

Alex D. Lugo is an award-winning actor, filmmaker, software engineer, and the Co-founder/CEO of FilmPro - a software platform that helps filmmakers simplify pre-production. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Miami, Alex’s work is enriched by his multicultural roots and artistic heritage as the son of Daniel Lugo, an iconic Latin American film and television actor. He is an alumni of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and the founder of the production company Vitruvian Films. On the tech side, Alex began his career as a software engineer at Goldman Sachs before joining Square, where he led several initiatives to integrate AI into their onboarding process. Today, through his work at FilmPro, he is reimagining the future of filmmaking by building tools that empower the next generation of storytellers.

Pre-Production organization on a feature film can be overwhelming. Spreadsheets. Calendars. To-do lists. There are so many things to organize and so many people to coordinate that it's easy to see why making a movie is so incredibly difficult. Enter into the picture an up-and-coming production workflow website called Collabrix that aims to help organize all your information and collaborate with the whole team. The site is still in its infancy, but we’ve convinced Collabrix Founder and CEO Thomas DeCarlo to join us to discuss the site in its current state and what its future looks like.

Thomas DeCarlo is a filmmaker-entrepreneur who is currently developing his first animated feature through his studio in southern Indiana. Adapted from his multi-award-winning short film, the feature is pioneering a new class of ultra-small independent animation with Thomas as the film’s writer, director, producer, and primary 3D artist. Thomas is also the Founder and CEO of Collabrix, a virtual collaboration platform that is redefining workflow efficiency for decentralized creative teams. Developed in partnership with his studio, Thomas is leveraging the technology to achieve world-class animation with indie-scale resources.

Filmmaking duo Kerry Carlock and Nick Lund-Ulrich, who are in the middle of premiering their second feature film, SUFFER, are joining the show today. Nick & Kerry!

Married filmmaking duo, KERRY CARLOCK & NICK LUND-ULRICH, work together to create genre-bending, character-driven stories. Their debut feature, Armstrong, was a micro-budget superhero drama starring Vicky Jeudy (Orange is the New Black), which was distributed domestically by Screen Media and Amazon Prime. Both Armstrong and their new film, Suffer, are proud recipients of the ReFrame Stamp, sponsored by Women in Film and the Sundance Institute. The honor is a “mark of distinction for projects that have demonstrated success in gender-balanced film.” Separately, their careers have focused on various parts of production. Kerry served as the SVP of Programming for Pie Town Productions for five years and has been on the producing team of over twenty-five primetime series. Nick is a VFX artist and supervisor who owned his own company, which specialized in environments and compositing for supporting VFX on studio features and independent productions. He won a Visual Effects Society Award and an Emmy for HBO’s The Pacific.

We are excited to have budding filmmaker Patrick Curran join us to discuss his recent adventures in filmmaking! He is currently in pre-production to direct his first feature film, and we have a ton of questions for him, especially about collaborating with his cinematographer. What to look for in a director of photography (DP) and how to find the ideal creative partner for your film? Drawing from his experiences as a director, writer, and actor, Patrick shares insights on the collaboration that makes great movie-making possible. If you’re an indie filmmaker preparing for your first feature, this is a great opportunity to get some practical advice and industry wisdom from someone who has been in your shoes. PATRICK CURRAN:

A native of Newtown, CT, Patrick is an award-winning writer, director, producer, and actor and has been working in independent film for over 15 years. His short film Snowbird (2025) won Best Comedy Short at both Woods Hole and Block Island Film Festival, Best Narrative Short at Twelve Lions, and Best International Film at Louth International. His next project Golden and Gone, a spec feature, won Best Screenplay at the 15th LA Comedy Festival Screenplay Competition and is in active development.

Patrick produced the award-winning web series Keeping Up with the Downs (in which he also co-wrote and co-starred).

Patrick also works as an actor, most notably as a principal in more than 75 national commercial campaigns. He's a member of SAG/AFTRA and AEA and graduated as a music theatre major from The Catholic University of America. and The London Dramatic Academy (UK).

Patrick lives in Los Angeles.

We're Making A Movie: An Interview with Jason C. Brown

Now that we’ve talked to a few Cinematographers about the importance of a DP on your project, we want to talk to the people who hire the DP… the Director. What are they looking for? How do they collaborate? How do you know the person you're interviewing is “the one?”

For an inside look into the brain of a Director on his DP, we’re bringing in friend and colleague, Jason C. Brown. Not only has Jason been the Director for a number of OUR projects, but he also worked on a TON of sets ranging in all sizes and a variety of jobs. So he’s seen first hand the inner workings of some of the Big Boys, and he’s also been a part of unique projects like “Drunk History" and “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.” Jason is also just a ton of fun to chat with, so this is going to be a great interview.

Jason C. Brown has worked on both Oscar & Emmy-winning productions and is a long-time member of the Directors Guild of America. He began his career after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Zoology (with a minor in Film Studies) at Miami University. Over the past two decades, he has served as 1st Assistant Director, Production Manager, and Director on a wide swathe of film and television productions— including high-profile titles like Avatar, Last Week Tonight, and Drunk History.

Jason is known for his disciplined approach to collaboration, strong logistical acumen on large sets and creative clarity when stepping into the director’s chair for his wide range of projects. Short films such as Panic Button, Imaginary Friends, and Meet Cute showcase his ability to balance humor, emotion, and human connection.

Cinematography is one of the most important elements of your film, which is why the role of the DP is so gosh darn important.

Today, we’re bringing on Cinematographer Brandon Cox to pick his brain about the best time to bring on your Director of Photography, what he’s usually working on in the early stages of making a movie, and what advice he’s got for us fledgling filmmakers. Although we’ve never worked with Brandon before, he was such a strong interview at the Julien Dubuque Film Festival that we’ve been eager to get him on the podcast. With over 30 films under his belt, Brandon has shot alongside some of Hollywood's biggest stars, including Bruce Willis, Dave Bautista, Nicolas Cage, Robert De Niro, and Mel Gibson.

Brandon also has a passion for adventure and storytelling that shines through in his work. Whether on location in Colombia, Puerto Rico, or Nepal, he seeks out compelling narratives that take audiences on a journey. Most recently, Brandon brought to life the incredible story of how the Dalai Lama was forced to flee Tibet in 4 RIVERS 6 RANGES, which is currently in its film festival run. His work illuminates the world through immersive and enlightening tales.

Brandon’s latest film, ONE SPOON OF CHOCOLATE, had its world premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival. This film marks the second collaboration with the Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA as director. Brandon recently wrapped principal photography on the scripted Netflix comedy series FREE BERT starring stand-up comedian BERT KREISCHER, which airs in February 2026.

Are you a filmmaker wondering what a good DP actually does, or when is the right time to bring them onto your project? This is the episode for you!

We are embarking on our own search for a Director of Photography to make our first feature film, but we have a lot of questions. The best way to find answers is to ask trusted sources, and for us, that is Wey Wang. We’ve known Wey for years and have worked with him on several projects. He also has the heart of a teacher, and we’ve learned a lot from him over the years. So, he’s the ideal person to explain the creative and collaborative power of a great cinematographer.

Wey is an award-winning Cinematographer based in Los Angeles with over 15 years of experience. He grew up in northern NJ, in the shadow of NYC.

He started his first life as a software developer before switching to cinema. He has since worked on numerous feature films and docs; shorts; commercials; and music videos. He has had the pleasure of working with some of Hollywood's biggest stars, such as Keanu Reeves, Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt and more.

Some notable accomplishments include: "Stars Fell on Alabama" and its sequel "Stars Fell Again"

Beyond the technical craft, Wey approaches every project as a deep collaboration, often starting with the script and into the edit. He believes a DP's job is more than just capturing a beautiful image, it's bringing a director's vision to life in a beautiful and emotional way. This focus on story and emotion drives his creative intent.

He is heavily influenced by directors such as Stanley Kubrick, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Wong Kar Wai.

He is also influenced by the cinematography of Robert Elswit, Robert Richardson, Jordon Cronenweth, Roger Deakins, Christopher Doyle, Gordon Willis, and Greig Fraser.

There's no better person to ask than someone who just got back from where you wanna go, so we’re gonna chat with the multi-hyphenate talent behind the dark-comedy-musical Peeping Todd, Chris Alan Evans, about doing just that. What is it like to carry a film as its lead actor while also balancing the demands of writing and producing, and the unpredictable challenges (and rewards) of bringing such a wild, genre-blending project to life? Chris Alan Evans is an independent filmmaker, former broadcaster, and a graduate of Northwestern State University. After an award-winning career in radio—including three Louisiana Association of Broadcasters Major Market Station of the Year honors—he transitioned into filmmaking to chase a childhood dream. His recent short films Caught on Tape and Toots blend real-life stories with emotional drama and comedic heart. He has been part of the writing and producing teams on two recently completed feature films. The Twin, a horror rooted in family drama, which has received distribution deals with Vertical and Shudder; and Peeping Todd, a dark comedy musical thriller still on the festival circuit, in which he plays the title character. Based in Bossier Parish, Louisiana… Evans creates films that entertain while leaving audiences with something meaningful to think about.

Ever wondered how indie filmmakers land name talent for their small-budget films? We're hoping our friend Chen Drachman can shine some light on that nagging question. In her short The Book of Ruth, she cast Broadway legend and Walking Dead alum Tovah Feldshuh, and for her live-action animation short, But I’m a Shoe, she brought in Janet Varney, the voice of Korra from The Legend of Korra. We’re gonna sit down and ask her, “HOW the heck did you get these two incredible talents on board?” … and we can’t promise this episode won't go off the rails a little. It’s gonna be a fun one.

Chen Drachman is an Israeli-American, award-winning actress and filmmaker based in NYC.

Chen’s first film, The Book of Ruth, starring Tony and Emmy Award nominee Tovah Feldshuh, has been in over 40 festivals in the U.S. and abroad, including the Academy Award-qualifying Cinequest and the Canadian Screen Award-qualifying Vancouver International Film Festival.

The film won multiple awards and since it concluded its festival run, it has had more than 150K views online through Omeleto.

Her newest film, But I'm a Shoe, starring The Legend of Korra's Janet Varney, had its world premiere at the Academy-Award-qualifying St. Louis International Film Festival and its International premiere at the Academy-qualifying Lebu International Film Festival in Chile. It's currently doing a run on the festival circuit.

Her newest short script, Blood and Sex Over Ambition, was a quarter finalist at the Hollyshorts script competition and a semi-finalist at the Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival script competition. A recipient of the 2024-2025 Inwood Film Festival grant, it is set to film in 2025, and an honorable mention at the Waco Independent Film Festival.

We’re diving into what we have decided to call “Marquee Casting.” Not to be confused with stunt casting, Marquee Casting is when you find the right name talent for your indie film and are able to leverage their star power to push your project forward. Today, we’re talking to H. Nelson Tracey about his recent feature film, Breakup Season, which has a crazy talented ensemble of actors, including their lead, Chandler Riggs. How the heck did you make that happen, Nelson!? We gotta know!

H. Nelson Tracey is a director and producer based in Los Angeles. His feature debut, Breakup Season, played at 39 film festivals nationwide in 2024 before being acquired by Buffalo 8 for worldwide distribution. After an 18-city theatrical run in November 2024, it is now available to stream on Amazon & Tubi. As a documentary producer and editor, his work has appeared on Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+, and also premiered at prominent film festivals including Slamdance and Tribeca. He also works as a festival consultant, helping short and feature filmmakers navigate through their film festival journey with success. Originally from Denver, CO, he graduated from Chapman University with a BFA in Film Production. He's currently gearing up for a vinyl release of the Breakup Season soundtrack, as well as developing his next directing projects.

There are as many ways to fund a feature film as there are filmmakers. This week we’re going to take a look at how Writer and Director Lauren Musgrove put together the backing she needed to make her directorial debut with “Ugly Sweater.” She’s fresh off the film festival circuit where they racked up eight film festival laurels along with three wins, a major feat for any feature. Now that she’s got this first feature under her belt, we’ve got a million questions, and Lauren is gracious enough to share her experiences with us.

Lauren is an eight-time Southeast Emmy Award-winning filmmaker. She serves as an Assistant Professor of Film and Television Production at the University of Georgia, and as a Board Member of the Athens Film Festival. Her feature directorial debut about teenage anxiety and imagination, Ugly Sweater, world-premiered at the Boston International Film Festival in 2024. She Co-Directed the Facebook-viral documentary series “People of Alabama,” and Produced a Southern slasher feature set in 1979: The Third Saturday in October, which is currently streaming on Shudder. Lauren is renowned for her keen storytelling abilities, commitment to ethical production practices, and proven success in audience engagement across various platforms.

Today, we’re talking to Ryan McDonough about how he funded his proof of concept short and then feature film, “Last Night in Rozzie.” We’ve known Ryan for years, and he is a riot, so we know this is going to be a good interview. Now that we’re diving into making our first feature, we gotta ask him a million questions. How did you secure your funding? What were the struggles? HOW THE HECK DID YOU GET JEREMY SISTO!?!?!?! Ryan McDonough has enjoyed a 30-year career in entertainment, serving as an actor, host, emcee, writer, producer, and personality. His company name, McShowoff, embodied the spirit of a jack of all trades with no shame. Notably, Ryan gained significant recognition as "Cuervo Man"—a recently sober, professional party catalyst whose unique story was featured on "This American Life."

Motivated by becoming a father, Ryan wrote, produced and raised all funds for the award-winning independent feature, "Last Night in Rozzie.” The story was inspired by his growing up without a father in the Boston neighborhood of Roslindale, and by his long, slow recovery from alcoholism. “Rozzie" premiered in select U.S. theaters and via streaming in September 2021. Prior to the feature, Ryan also wrote, produced, and co-starred in an award-winning short film based on the same compelling script; the feature screenplay was a Scriptapalooza semifinalist.

Currently, Ryan leverages his extensive experience as a video product and program lead at Google. He resides in Long Beach, CA, with his wife and 11-year-old son, alongside their two beautiful German Shepherds.

Getting funding for your indie feature film…. the monumental task continues. While we all dream of a phone call from the big studios, you’ll probably have to find investors elsewhere. And sometimes magic strikes. We’re sitting down with Writer / Producer Hudson Phillips, who has two features under his belt. We will discuss how he obtained the money, managed those funds, and what he learned from his two projects that we can put to our own uses.

Hudson Phillips is a writer, producer, and founder of Mirror Box Films. He grew up in small-town South Georgia (thick accent and all) until his father relocated the family to Haiti to work as a pharmacist in remote mountain communities. After his dad unexpectedly passed away, Hudson returned to Atlanta (thankfully losing the accent) and fell in love with genre storytelling as a way to process his grief.

His first feature, the post-apocalyptic This World Alone, was released on Hulu, won Best Feature at six festivals and Best Screenplay at two, and earned a positive review in The New York Times. His second, the sci-fi romance Guacamole Yesterdays, is now available on major platforms following a nationwide 13-city theatrical tour and an award-winning 11-stop festival run.

Hudson has worked as a writer-for-hire and had an original spec optioned by Lions Gate Films. He’s also the author of Writing Unforgettable Characters and has taught screenwriting and indie film production at workshops and college campuses.

A former single dad to a now college-bound son, Hudson lives outside Atlanta with his wife, two rescue hounds, and a shit-ton of books.

So we’re bringing in a pro to walk us through all the ins and outs of the successful campaigns she’s been a part of over the years. We are pleased to introduce you to Paul Rhodes. Actor, Director, Producer, Paula is the ultimate go-getter. You may have seen her in any number of commercials or heard her voice in some of your favorite video games and cartoons. What we are really jazzed about is her feature film, “Delicate State”, that was made possible in part by crowdfunding. And seriously, Paula just gives great advice when it comes to this stuff. Paula Rhodes loves challenging the pick-a-lane mentality and has stretched her creative wings in various areas from playing a stable of characters that includes Resident Evil villains and two of Barbie's sisters, winning awards for screenplays, producing multiple series, directing a feature film over the course of her pregnancy that went on to win the Audience Choice Award at Dances with Films and get global distribution, and which currently has her helping the Witches to burn back with @burnedmovie.

We're Making A Movie: An Interview with Mike Hayhurst

Many independent feature films are led by a director who has also penned their screenplay. So, what should you do if you have a script but aren't a director yourself? The answer is to find a director and do so early in the process. For us, a key part of building our core team was finding a director who was a good fit for “Turns Out” and our specific brand of comedy. Fortunately, we connected with the team from Evening Squire Productions while showcasing our short films at various festivals, and one half of the Evening Squire team is the very talented Director Mike Hayhurst. Fresh off making his first indie feature, “And Through the Portal We Go,” we have loads of questions about what a director does at this phase of a film's development. WHAT IS IT YOU DO, MIKE??!?!

Mike Hayhurst is an award-winning director and producer for film and theatre. Born and raised in the UK, he co-founded Evening Squire Productions in 2016 and has created multiple award-winning short films including BEAT; Cook With the Heart (currently in development as a feature film); Upside Down Plain Face; 15 Down; Oma starring Lynn Cohen; and The Pits, a live-action puppet short about a lonely avocado in NYC that Frank Oz called “really good and very sweet.” Most recently, his proof-of-concept mockumentary about professional Finnish hobby horse, Ava Keppihevonen, went viral and generated over 14.5M views.

His directorial feature debut, And Through the Portal We Go, premiered in 2024. Additional feature credits include Buck Run, The Trip to Bountiful with Cicely Tyson, and A Day Late and a Dollar Short with Whoopi Goldberg.

Previously, he spent four years as an Associate at Bill Haber’s Ostar Enterprises (Rizzoli & Isles, TNT; Beauty and the Beast, CW; Nothing to Hide, directed by Neil Patrick Harris at Signature Theater; various Broadway projects).

We're Making A Movie: An Interview with Jenny Waldo

How do you make your first indie feature film? H O W !?! If our years of making short films have taught us anything, it's to ask questions of those who have been where we want to go. Better yet, ask those questions of creators who are a few steps ahead of you on the journey, rather than those who are years down the road. We are thrilled to sit down with filmmaker Jenny Waldo and ask her: How did you develop your first feature? With her successful debut feature under her belt and her second one in the works, Jenny is truly the perfect person to chat with!

A producer, writer, and director, Jenny Waldo’s feature film directorial debut, Acid Test, adapted from her award-winning short, premiered at the Austin Film Festival and was nominated for the Texas Independent Film Award by the Houston Film Critics Society. Experienced in both documentary and scripted storytelling, past credits include associate-producing the indie feature The Preacher’s Daughter which sold to Lifetime and the Starz feature documentary The Cutting Edge: The Magic of Movie Editing among various shorts, documentary series, and music videos. Her second feature, Mustang Martha, is in development and was a Nicholl Fellowship Quarterfinalist and participant of several development labs including the Stowe Story Narrative Lab. A graduate of USC's School of Cinematic Arts with a MFA in Film Production, Jenny educates and advocates for upcoming filmmakers through her consulting, volunteer work, and as a faculty member of Houston Community College’s Filmmaking Program. Specializing in based-on-true stories with personal and intimate films, her latest short, Twofer, premiering at the Houston Latino Film Festival, expands her directing work into the thriller genre!

We are very lucky that our feature film has an amazing producer already on board. Filmmaker friends, we are thrilled to introduce you to Allison Moy Hayhurst, producer with Evening Squire Productions. In this week’s episode, we’re going to open up the can of worms that is producing. What is a Producer? What do Producers do? And when does your project need a Producer? We hope to answer all of these questions, and luckily, we have Allison here to help us make sense of it all.

Allison Moy Hayhurst is a southern-raised Chinese American NY-based producer, writer, and puppeteer. Most recently, she produced her first feature film, "And Through the Portal We Go", which premiered in 2024 and has already won multiple awards, including Best Feature, Best Actor, and Best Acting Ensemble. She is a co-founder of Evening Squire Productions and has been instrumental in the production and writing of their myriad of award-winning short films. Notable projects include live-action puppet short "The Pits"; coming-of-age dramedy "15 Down" (Amazon Prime); dark-comedy-horror-mockumentary "Cook With The Heart" (currently in development as a feature film); the spoken-word dance film "Upside Down Plain Face"; and the action-comedy "BEAT".

After developing Social Medium with Tara Jayn, he somehow ended up as the co-executive producer for the “Curious George” animated series. With an extensive background in children’s entertainment, Brian loves crafting unexpected, funny stories to make kids laugh. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, son, and two feral cats who are plotting to eat him.

Our exploration of screenwriting continues with a special interview! Who better to talk to about the process than someone who has achieved what we’re setting out to do? Welcome, Tom Vaughan, to our little corner of the internet. Not only is Tom a professional screenwriter whose feature films have hit the big screen, but he also teaches screenwriting at the University of Houston and offers an online course called Story & Plot. We’re betting we are going to learn a lot and have a hunch you will too.

Tom Vaughan has been a professional screenwriter for 28 years and has taught the subject for nearly as long. He has written projects for Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures, Disney, ABC, NBC, TBS, CBS, Miramax, Castle Rock Entertainment, and many others.

His most recent film, HAUNTING OF QUEEN MARY (2023), followed WINCHESTER (2018), starring Academy Award winner Helen Mirren and Sarah Snook. He has developed projects for Matthew McConaughey, Nicolas Cage, Barry Sonnenfeld, and others, including director David Gordon Green, who is attached to his upcoming action-comedy Most Wanted. His other produced screenplays include UNSTOPPABLE with Wesley Snipes and CRITICAL ASSEMBLY with Katherine Heigl.

His script, DADDY'S GIRL, is slated for production later this year. One of his big life goals was to teach screenwriting at his beloved alma mater, The University of Houston. Which he now does.

Get ready for our first interview! Filmmakers Mitch Yapko and Allen Rueckert, who wear many hats, join us for a look into their creative process. Both Mitch and Allen are relentless idea machines, constantly coming up with great concepts in very diverse genres. Although we’ve known them for a long time, we’ve never directly asked them…. Where do you get your ideas from??? Join us as we delve into the topic with two of our favorite cohorts.

Mitch Yapko - Director/Writer/Producer

Mitch Yapko is an award-winning director/writer/producer known for his unique character work, focusing often on real characters in surreal situations. His films have shown in over 150 film festivals over the years, including the Sundance Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, USA Film Festival, Dances with Films, Newport Beach, LA Shorts and many others.

Mitch has spent over 15 years directing shorts and pilots, sketch comedies and web series. With a background in theater performance, he has the unique ability to connect with his actors to bring out the best performances every time.

When he's not directing narrative content, Mitch produces commercials and photo shoots for brands such as Adidas, Nike, Jack Daniels, XBOX, Footlocker, Taco Bell, Converse, and more.

Allen Rueckert - Writer/Actor/Director/Editor

Allen Rueckert (pronounced RICK-ERT) has been called charming in that quirky Minnesota way. He is an award-winning actor/writer and has been in several shows and movies.

He has written, directed, and starred in several of his own film projects and many with his writing/directing/production partner, Mitch Yapko ("Nosferajew", "Making a Milk Spiller", "On Site"). They have that same weird and dark sense of humor.

You may have also seen him co-starring with Eddie Murphy and Bob Odenkirk in Netflix's "Dolemite is My Name," or seen his recurring role on HBO's "Veep" or FOX's "911: Lone Star"... and if you haven't, maybe you've just seen him on the street. Allen Rueckert is an award-winning writer for the feature horror/comedy "3 to Die" and for the drama "All this Wind Shakes No Corn", which was also co-written with Mitch Yapko.

Even when Allen writes dramas, he loves adding comedy into a scene when it fits. "We all experience some comedy in every situation whether we want to or not."

We're Making A Movie: The Idea

Okay, let’s start from the top.

The first step (most of the time) in the movie making process is coming up with THE IDEA! Personally, we’re idea machines and this has always been the easier part. We’ve got notebooks loaded with ideas that will probably never see the light of day. So, let’s talk about how we come up with our ideas and how we got the idea for “Turns Out.” We also did some research on how some of our favorite movies came into being.
