This week on Mumma Chats, a conversation with my husband made me realise just how different our experiences of growing up were, simply because I was a girl and he was a boy. Now, as my littles gets older, I'm navigating how to loosen the bubble wrap while still having those important conversations with her.

We're also talking about the new pregnancy loss bereavement leave coming in April 2027. I share my own experience of miscarriage at six weeks, why recognising early pregnancy loss matters, and why the fact that this leave will be unpaid means I don't think the conversation should end here.

Finally, we're talking about breastfeeding in public. After comments online sparked a debate about feeling uncomfortable around women breastfeeding, I'm asking: whose responsibility is that discomfort? And perhaps instead of another breast versus bottle debate, we should be asking how we can better support every mum to feed her baby in the way that's right for them.

I'd love to hear your experiences and thoughts on any of this week's conversations.

This episode contains discussion of pregnancy loss and my own experience of miscarriage.

Chapters

00:00 — Welcome to Mumma Chats

00:45 — Raising girls: safety, fear and letting go

04:36 — Pregnancy loss and the new bereavement leave

09:20 — Breastfeeding in public: whose discomfort is it?

14:05 — Final thoughts

Come and join the conversation

Visit Super Mumma: https://www.supermumma.co.uk

Follow Super Mumma on Instagram: @supermummas

Come and join the conversation.

Visit Super Mumma at www.supermumma.co.uk to listen, explore more from this episode and find support and resources.

Come and say hi on Instagram @supermummas

If something discussed in this episode has left you needing support, you can find organisations and resources at www.supermumma.co.uk.

And remember, Every Mumma Matters.

Hosted on Acast.

For the first Mumma Chats, I’m getting comfy and having a proper catch-up about those new chapters of motherhood that can feel exciting, emotional, overwhelming and sometimes all of it at once.

We’re talking back to school, watching our children move into new stages, the mental load that comes with it and what happens to us as mums while we’re busy making sure everyone else is okay.

I’m also chatting about some of the stories and conversations that have caught my attention recently, from maternity care and whether mums really feel heard and supported, to school attendance and the realities families are facing behind the numbers.

This time I’m doing things a little differently.

In this episode of the Super Mumma podcast, I chat with Greer Jones about the real impact of public statements on neurodivergent children and their mum. Sparked by some recent, controversial comments in the media. We dive into the emotional weight of stigma, the guilt and judgement mums often feel, and why it’s so important to shift the focus from “fixing” neurodivergence to offering support and understanding. We also talk about the role media plays in shaping perceptions of autism and why community, connection, and advocacy are so vital for neurodivergent families. This is a conversation for any mumma who’s ever felt blamed, misunderstood, or simply in need of solidarity.

In this solo episode, I’m sharing something really personal... the grief that came with realising I live with anxiety and that it’s not something I can just get rid of.

I open up about the moment it hit me that I’d never go back to the version of me who could do things without overthinking, who wasn’t constantly managing anxious thoughts in the background. And how that realisation came with its own kind of grief , one we don’t often talk about as mums.

This isn’t about being ‘fixed’ or ‘cured’, it’s about learning to live with anxiety, understanding it, managing it, and finding acceptance (on the good days and the tough ones). I also talk about how isolating this journey can feel and why these honest conversations really matter.

So if you’ve ever found yourself missing the ‘old you’ or wondering why it’s so hard to just be okay ,this one’s for you. You’re not alone in this, and it’s okay to grieve the version of yourself you’ve had to leave behind.

Let’s keep talking about the bits of motherhood and mental health that don’t always get said out loud.

In this honest conversation, Neela Prabhu opens up about her real-life experience of IVF, unexplained infertility, and the emotional rollercoaster of trying to conceive. She shares what it’s really like navigating the pressure to get pregnant, how isolating fertility struggles can be, and the unexpected mental toll that can follow, even when the baby you dreamed of finally arrives.

Neela talks openly about postnatal depression, birth recovery, and how hard it is to admit you’re struggling when the world expects you to be over the moon. We chat about the silent expectations placed on mums, especially those who’ve been through IVF, and the importance of having support, not just for the baby, but for you too.

This episode is for every mum who's ever felt like she should be coping but isn’t. It’s a powerful reminder that you’re not alone, and you’re not failing.

I chat with Michelle about the unpredictable and often overwhelming journey of motherhood, especially when navigating the world of SEN parenting, raising a child with additional needs and medical challenges.

From Autism and Hip Dysplasia to the complexities of ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) and Perthes Disease, Michelle shares her personal experiences and how they’ve impacted her mental wellbeing. We talk openly about the emotional rollercoaster of parenting a neurodivergent or medically complex child, the heavy (and often invisible) mental load mums carry, and the weight of societal expectations that can leave many feeling like they’re not doing enough.

Michelle speaks honestly about how crucial the right support system, both professional and community-based, has been for her, and how she’s found resilience in the face of ongoing challenges.

In this powerful and honest chat, I sit down with Esther Shaw as she opens up about being a mum with breast cancer, after being diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer at 41.

We talk about the raw reality of motherhood during treatment, trying to keep life going for your children while your own world feels like it’s falling apart. Esther shares how parenting didn’t pause, even when the chemo started, and how she found strength in the everyday moments, from turning up to appointments to simply getting through the next hour.

Our conversation explores the deep emotional impact of surviving breast cancer, the loneliness of treatment during lockdown, and the toll it’s taken on her mental health. Esther also reflects on the long-term healing, physically and emotionally, that continues, even five years on. Her story is a moving reminder of the resilience within motherhood, and the importance of speaking openly about the mental and emotional side of cancer.
