In this episode, recorded in September 2025 we are joined by visuals director, producer and creative consultant Leonor Mamanna.

Leonor is Deputy Visuals Director at Bloomberg, splitting her time across Pursuits, Weekend, City Lab, and as Deputy at Businessweek — the latest chapter in a career that's taken her through New York Magazine, The New York Times Magazine, Condé Nast Traveler, GQ, Men's Vogue, Money, More, and a run as photo director at the all-female Mary Review, earning her honors from SPD, American Photography, PDN, ASME, the Art Directors Club, Communication Arts, and POYi along the way, plus jury seats for PDN's Photo Annual, Photoville, Daylight Photo, the Overseas Press Club, NPPA, Latin American Fotografía, and ASME. Outside the magazine world, she's mentored through Chicas Poderosas' New Ventures Lab on Malquerida, an all-women Spanish-language project; she's the eye behind @alittlelifebook and runs the social presence for Hanya Yanagihara's A Little Life; she's shot original photography for novelists Ben Dolnick and Pulitzer winner Andrew Sean Greer, dug into photo archives with authors Maaza Mengiste and Will Schwalbe, and dreamed up the campaign for the indie film Mayday.

Since 2016 she's also written Leave It to Leonor, a weekly newsletter of cultural recommendations and personal essays that from 2017 to 2021 included an interview series with women like Roxane Gay, Tracy Clayton, Ashley C. Ford, Doree Shafrir, and Brittany Luse.

She's a lifelong New Yorker, Upper West Side born and raised, now living in Brooklyn with her family — and she reads constantly.

Sarah Burke is an independent editor, documentary producer, and digital strategist, known for her GLAAD- and Peabody-winning work as editor-in-chief of Them and special projects editor at VICE. Alyza Enriquez is a Brooklyn-based, Peabody-award-winning, Emmy-nominated filmmaker and photographer who tells humanizing stories about resourcefulness within marginalized communities and counter-cultural movements, informed by their own experience as a trans latine person raised in South Florida. The two previously worked together at VICE, where they helped create the award-winning docuseries Transnational.

In this episode, recorded in March 2025 we are joined by esteemed editor, curator and producer Elizabeth Krist.

Elizabeth Krist was a Senior Photo Editor with National Geographic magazine for over 20 years, and is a founding member of the Visual Thinking Collective. She is on the boards of Women Photograph and the W. Eugene Smith Fund, advises the Eddie Adams Workshop and Apple, and is a contributing editor for Virginia Quarterly Review. 

Elizabeth has collaborated on five Photoville installations--In This Together, from the 2025 festival, featured the work of 50 alumni of the Eddie Adams Workshop. National Geographic‘s Women of Vision, 100 images by 11 photographers, traveled to 10 museums and several festivals. She also curated exhibitions on China and ancient Greece for National Geographic, as well as an online auction for Christie‘s. 

She helps program speakers for the Eddie Adams Workshop, a role she performed for National Geographic’s Photography Seminar for over a dozen years. She also co-curated CatchLight’s 2023 Visual Storytelling Summit. She has been grateful to interview speakers and moderate panels for the International Center of Photography, Leica, National Geographic, and The Griffin Museum of Photography.

Elizabeth has freelanced for The New Yorker, the travel quarterly Smithsonian Journeys, and Magnum Photos, and has produced stories for Literary Hub. Before joining National Geographic, she worked at Fortune and at Asia. She edited the books Women of Vision, Pope Francis and the Vatican, and works with individual photographers on their book edits--most recently with Lynn Johnson, and also with Michael Yamashita for books on China and Japan. She has edited visuals for Magnum Foundation and CatchLight publications, and wrote the text for a National Geographic special issue.
