The two have to pair up to keep the team from being sold to someone who might tear it apart, and with a little help from a 9yo girl, a feral cat, and an entire team of hockey players, Jordan and Tate eventually warm up to each other.

Well, we’re a week late because life is hard and the holidays are super busy. But still, we’re excited to talk about Good Spirits by B.K. Borison! We have no idea why this book is generating so many mixed reviews because we absolutely loved it. Harriet, the owner of an antiques shop is visited by Nolan, the Ghost of Christmas Past–except that they can’t seem to find any memories that would lead them to believe she’s in need of divine intervention. It’s funny, it’s emotional, and it made both of us cry. 10000/10 recommend.

At Rae’s suggestion, we read Gloves Off (Vancouver Storm Book 4) by Stephanie Archer and it did NOT disappoint. If you’re looking for enemies-to-lovers, this is the cream of the crop. Georgia and Alexei cannot stand each other, but agree to a marriage of convenience so he can get his green card and she can get her inheritance. They say horrible things to each other, but eventually, the tide turns, in no small part to Alexei’s flower deliveries.

Sam O’Shea needs a favor in return, get her family to endorse his bid for town mayor, and maybe mend fences after 7 years apart. What happens when the voice acting gig gets a little too real? Nothing. Kidding!

We stayed in Texas for another episode! This week, we read CASH by Jessica Peterson. When Mollie inherits her estranged father’s cattle ranch, she plans to immediately sell it and invest the money into her own business. The only problem is that she has to live on the ranch for a year before she actually owns it, which doesn’t really fit into her life in Dallas. Oh, and that hot ranch foreman who her father verbally promised the ranch to…he’s a problem, too.

To celebrate Pride Month, we read You & Me by Tal Bauer and ended up sobbing. But in a good way. In this bi-awakening novel, Luke is desperately trying to hold onto his relationship with his son, Emmet, after the sudden death of his wife. To get closer to Emmet, Landon suggests Luke volunteer with their sons’ football team (because this is Texas, after all). Emmet is best friends with Landon’s son Bowen, which means Luke and Landon end up spending a lot of time together…and eventually falling in love. The big question is: will Emmet be okay with it, or will this be the nail in the coffin of their relationship?

So Emmett proposes a mutually beneficial arrangement: he’ll co-sign on her business loan in exchange for her pretending to be his girlfriend. And then his fiancée. Oh, and also his wife. Emmett isn’t a relationship kind of guy, and Avery thinks Emmett is arrogant, so there’s no risk of them falling for each other…right?

Owen’s manager suggests his niece, a fledgling comedian named Frankie…who he doesn’t know heckled Owen a few years back at a show in Tampa. Owen reluctantly hires Frankie–entirely because his son loves her. Owen and Frankie do nothing but snipe at each other, but you know what they say about the line between love and hate…

We hopped in our time machine this week to read 2006’s A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole. When a Scottish Lykae (who just happens to be a king) finally scents his fated mate while being held prisoner by a bunch of vampires, he quite literally gnaws his way to freedom. Except that when he finds her on the streets of Paris, he realizes that she, too, is a vampire. Turn out, she’s only half-vampire. Her other half is valkyrie. And she’s a bada$$. (Eventually, anyway.) Also discussed: our professionalism, our dogs, and how technology is working against us. On that note, please excuse the random changes in audio quality.

Happy March, everyone! Spring is still somehow 84 years away and we’re reading Scot and Bothered by Alexandra Kiley. We got an ARC for this follow up to the Kilt Trip (episode 85), so if you’re reading this, the book is out. Middle Sutherland son Jack fell in love with American student Brooke when they were at the University of Edinburgh, but a lot of things got in the way. Seven years later, the two of them are working on the same project. And that project involves hiking an 80-mile long trail over a period of two weeks. Spoiler alert: some of the language is predictably frustrating (the 90s was a different time), but overall, this book stands the test of time. We’re talking top tier enemies to lovers. The thing is, turning into Nessie is a literal curse his family has carried for generations and he’s determined to break it once and for all. Enter: Keyanna McKay, the first granddaughter in the McKay family for hundreds of years. She’s beautiful, intelligent, and very determined. And she almost might be the death of him. Literally. Gabriel is an immortal dragon, but a witch placed a curse on him. He doesn’t have long before his time runs out–he’ll either turn to stone or he’ll have to return to his homeland, where he’s surely to be killed on sight. He believes that Raven is the key to breaking the curse. Except that she’s in hospice, dying from a brain tumor. Good thing he can save her life…so that maybe she can save his. This week we’re clinging to the Olympics by reading The Kraken Games by Lilith Stone! Luna is the first human to have ever entered the Kraken Games in Motham City. Kai is this year’s chosen kraken, who will have to fight every single entrant in order to win–and he must win if he’d like to bring honor back to his people. Last year’s kraken lost to an orc, and Kai has been told that losing is not an option. The only thing is…Luna and Kai met before the Games. And they had a *real* good time together, which is a problem because Luna hates kraken and kraken generally hate humans. This week, the ladies discuss the basis for season 2 of the exceedingly popular Netflix series Bridgerton – The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn. In this book, we follow 29-year-old Anthony Bridgerton on his quest to find a wife. Anthony’s duties as the viscount essentially require him to marry and produce an heir, which he’s willing to do. What he’s *not* willing to do is marry a woman who could ever fall in love with. Anthony sets his sights on the diamond of the season – 17yo Edwina Sheffield. (Yes, we know it’s gross.) However, Anthony didn’t anticipate Edwina’s 20-year-old sister Kate being such a problem. Not only is Kate vehemently opposed to a potential marriage between Anthony and Edwina, but… Anthony is entranced by her – and that simply cannot do. Also discussed: belated Christmas presents, the new Pixar film Turning Red, and Vanessa Carlton.

It’s Spooky Szn, and to pay homage to the time of Samhain, we are covering Warm Bodies, a novel by Isaac Marion and a 2013 movie starring Nicholas Hoult. This book definitely hit the ladies right in the feels: beautifully written, great pacing, and extremely eloquent. The zombie apocalypse has never sounded so good. The accompanying film proved to be a fairly decent adaptation of the source material with two thumbs up all around from the ladies. Continuing the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the ladies partake in some magical realism with the classic Like Water For Chocolate by Laura Esquivel. Taking place during the Mexican revolution, the novel presents life and love in a small family at the very beginning of the 20th century. Spanning a generation, the novel (and subsequent film) depict gender differences, cultural expectations, and familial tradition with a forbidden love story running throughout.
