A cup of tea in hand and a little biccy too Andrea's story is that of the farm, a love of family and the way song can find a way to see and experience the world. 

Andrea shares with us about the settlement farms and the way a community came together to build something from nothing. A school, a hall, a football netball club. The harshness and beauty of being a dairy farmer. 

But mostly music. Always music and mostly country music. When I walked in the music was playing, the kettle was boiling and I was reminded again how good it was to be home on the farm at Simpson.

You know when you met someone and you just know...... there's a story there. 

This is Kate Kirkpatrick. 

And this is part one, because this woman has a few layers and we have only peeled back one. 

I got to interview Kate live from the Grampians Grape Escape. An event she has been the director of for the past 9 years. 

You can hear the crowd, you can hear the music, you can hear the fun that is everything that is all wrapped up in the event and it's great big heart. 

This is a festival to celebrate the region.

This is a festival that brings the locals together and attracts the tourists. 

Fires have ripped through this region.

The emotion of those fires is still bubbling just under the surface. The locals have had to fight. Not just for their homes, but their livelihoods. 

You can see the black trees and two summers on while the feeling is still raw you can see the green of the new gum trees. You can see a community saying our arms are open come say G'Day. 

This episode was recorded on location of the Grape Escape and it is a part one because we didn't even touch the outside.

This episode is as much about the event as the woman and team behind it.

Yet she can sit in the silence; craves it. This was something I understood completely. 

I thought this chat was going to be about comedy (and it is in part), and creative process (it is in part) but something that really stopped me was the relationship of social media. The understanding of the role it plays in promotion of not just the comedian and show but the para social relationship with people BUT more than that; identifying that it's just not good for her. 

So how do you get around it? On one hand you need it, on the other it's not good. Some things are just private. 

Claire is in the middle of the Melbourne Comedy Festival. Peak funny times in Melbourne! 

I am so glad she gave up time to sit with me and share with you, but also to share so vulnerable.

I have admired Sarah Maree for as long as I can remember. Admired her for her career and recently the way in which she is sharing her personal life.

I remember the 'Thumbs up and Thumbs down' and the ratings out of ten that you would read in the magazines. 

One night a woman (back about 10/15 years ago) sat down in, social media in hand and loaded an album of red carpet looks simply commenting the first thing that came to mind when looking at the outfits. 

She started a Facebook. 211 followed. It was a big deal and she kept going. 100k plus followers later plus a book, Fashion Critical has built a loyal following that allows for a giggle. 

She makes it very clear she isn't judging you and me the average everyday Jo. Her quick off the cuff outfit critique is saved for the celebrities only. 

Why not tell everyone who she is? Why the secret? We cover this and everything in between including why not just do this as a full time job? Fashion Critical tells me it's because she loves to sweep the streets.

A fitness instructor in Camperdown, Cobden and Warrnambool for 10 years, at 30, she joined the Police force.

She was in the Police Force in Melbourne for 12 years and ended up becoming a Detective whilst also having 3 babies along the way.

She has gone from crimes to classrooms. She's started an empowerment based self defence program for women and girls called Girl Aware. She's sharing her knowledge about how to stay safe, how to prevent danger and she's helping to build confidence and empower women and girls. Last week she presented to 400 girls in a nearby school which is amazing.

Listen to this episode. It might just give you something to be more aware of yourself.

If I'm honest, I can't listen back to this. I was such a novice interviewer at the time. I don't think I can go back and cringe. I was awestruck, I was a bit fangirling and I was sitting in Kyle's seat! 

So why am I re-releasing this now?

At the moment the KJ show as we know it is over. 

I don't mind if you loved or hated the show. I couldn't care less. 

But what isn't being talked about was the relentless effort that went into making this show. What did it take to be number 1 over and over again? 

I asked Jackie at the time- what did you enjoy more? The fight to get to the top or maintaining top spot and Jackie said 'the fight to get there'. 

Jackie is a Woman of Influence and I have always been so grateful she agreed to be on the podcast. 

She had told me at the time that she really said no to appearing on podcasts because if you wanted to hear about her life you needed to listen to the KJ Show. 

I think she said yes as a favour to my brother Pete!

This is Dr Kat Page and she explains and talks about being Happy. Well, that's where we start. But not like happy skipping around the place more about the; am I feeling content? Am I challenged just enough?

Kat is an organisational psychologist, researcher and leadership advisor, and the author of Good Work: Transforming Your Work from the Inside Out (Wiley, 1 April 2026).

And, again. I'm sorry not sorry! But I thought talking to Kat would be like talking to Wendy from Billions. I quickly found out no. That's not really where her research and work is grounded in. 

For Kat, it is about Happiness. 

I actually think I had the wind knocked out of me. I couldn't remember the last time I thought about being Happy at work. For me I just love it. And I loved this chat with Kat because she challenged my thinking. 

I hope it will, yours too. 
Her book isn't designed for the managers and leaders but to empower you. 

Loved it! 

Also note her book and work includes- burnout is a systems failure, not a personal one  and the next era of leadership isn't about training people for resilience to cope; it's about redesigning work so performance and wellbeing can coexist.

Episode 16/100 we heard from Molly's Mum Adelle and how the dance Mum upended her life and then helped navigate from the other side of the world to help her daughter when COVID hit.

So, we couldn't not talk to Molly. (The daughter).

Honestly. It was one challenge after another and there would be no-one that would have blamed this young woman from walking away from her dream of becoming a professional dancer.

But this is the thing isn't it.

Zenita moved to Australia 15 years ago to play music and then made a life here. A band, two Irish pubs and another on Chapel Street this is a woman that has rolled with it.

We talk about music, why the move, and then how it came about saving one of Melbourne's most Iconic Irish Pubs- The Quite Man now Auntie Annies in Flemington.
Paying tribute to the original owner in the name, finding the blueprints of the building and saving it from demolition.

This is only one part of Adelle's story. It's part her, and part her daughter Molly. What a team they have made.

I have know Briony since she was about 13 years old. I remember thinking I wanna be cool like Briony. Still do if I'm honest.

She is a Marketing WIZ! I say again- the make it happen person. Just knows how to find a way.

I asked Mrs McPearl want she wanted most and she said 'to be taken seriously'. 

I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. 

Not quite 70 Mrs McPearl and Norma are the same person with two identities. But they share something beautiful in common. A passion for a story of a pearl or bead, that age is no barrier and if you think you can discount a person due to their age you have another thing coming. 

Feminism, ageism, barbie dolls, teaching.... there is so much to celebrate in this story. In Normas story that has evolved into Mrs McPearl.

But it's a work around. A non stop way to figure it out. Going through a school system that isn't always designed for all minds. Where the barrier of success is about the number or mark on a test. 

What Posey shares is something that can be forgotten. That there are other ways to win in life without ace'ing the test. 

That finding your skill can start sweeping the floors in a hair salon; that can give you the confidence to do anything. 

If you really want it that is. 

So, here she is. A big ball of wonderful energy and life, a wife and mother and creative genius!

What I have found is that we just don't know enough and that pap smear isn't going to cover it.
Amy is a curious mind. I guess that's why she is doing the work she is doing.

This is a pain so real it hits you at the very core.

Sophie is a single Mother with two daughters; India, 16 and Violet, 14.

In 2017, after months of panic attacks and school refusal, India was diagnosed with depression and anxiety.

In 2018, this diagnosis escalated to severe social anxiety and clinical depression.

She moved schools for her as she wanted a fresh start, and that seemed to help for six months, then India's anxiety became heightened due to her social surroundings and she went downhill fast.

In 2019 the self-harming began, then in the march the suicide attempts started. 

Fast forward to 2022 and Sophie has started the Please Stay Foundation.

She is a woman of Influence…

Dads to Jones. 

This is the first time we have had the males featured on the Women of Influence Podcast. 

And it's soooooo good to have them. 

It just feels right to hear the full story of Niamh, and Jones, Will and Nigel. 

I was working with Will at the time Jones was born and I have to say even I; who didn’t know Will and Nigel all that well at the time, felt nothing but a burst of love when Jones entered the world. 

All babies are special when they enter the world…but some; some feel like, look like…. I don’t know how to put it other..... than super special. Truly a burst of love….

A note to Will and Nigel.

Niamh McMahon is a Women of Influence. 

Niamh is a wife, businesswoman and mother of 2 children. 

She has gifted a child to the world. A child to Wil and Nigel in the form of surrogacy. 

So how did this even come about?

How did she raise it with her husband?

What did she tell her kids?

Was she paid?

What was the psychological toll?

What is the connection to the baby now?

I have so many questions that I can’t wait to find out the answers to…. But one thing I know for sure. Niamh is a Woman of Influence.
