Susan, otherwise known as SusansNextChapter on Instagram is a wife and mother of three and has faced the toughest battle of her life. Susan was diagnosed with bowel cancer over a year ago after being misdiagnosed with an appendix problem, she was in pain and knew there was something more sinister going on and like many women advocated for further investigations. Susan was fitted with a stoma bag and has since undergone surgery and chemotherapy, more recently Susan has been told her cancer is at stage 4 and that she will not be having a stoma reversal as she had hoped. At this point in her illness Susan wants to bring to light the difficulties surrounding bowel cancer and the lack of awareness. Susan also shares her gastric bypass journey with Rebecca, where she went from 19 stone to 10 and she talks about her happy family life and incredible support from her husband.

Harrison is originally from Australia and is passionate about self-building and creating communities where people can thrive and live self-sufficient lives with their families. He is educating people on to build their own homes, learning the skills to build everything from a wall to a kitchen table.

Harrison grew up north of Sydney in Australia to his South African parents. He discussed his childhood which was both lonely and adventurous at the same time, he discussed the culture in Australia at the time, his parents separation when he was 16 and the want to get out of Australia and travel and escape the life he was living.

Harrison worked in Africa and Asia before coming to Ireland and meeting his wife Erin on a chance encounter while serving coffee in the Fumbally Café in Dublin.

Harrison and Erin have since bought a cottage in Clare and Harrison has been adding to it and improving on it for years, the couple have two daughters who call themselves the ballerina builders and who they want to be able to be self sufficient and resilient and be able to build their own homes.

Six years ago Leo was born with Down Syndrome, Gillian describes in moving detail the initial surprise at the news and the health challenges that herself and her husband have had to face with Leo. Gillian speaks so articulately about the difficulties facing parents with children born with this extra chromosome and what they deal with on a day to day basis, many things that parents take for granted. She also talks about Leo being the light of their lives and the wonderful family unit she has created and the work she continues to do to protect her son and others. This is an incredibly informative, moving and hopeful conversation, particularly for anyone who has had a pre or post natal diagnosis. Gillian's overriding message is that there is nothing to fear and that the love for your child takes over instantly when they are born. A beautiful conversation between school-friends.
