Psychedelic Therapy with Steve Singh

Back in 2022 Steve Singh reached tipping point after suffering from a rare headache condition called Cluster Headaches a pain so severe the pain scale suggests it is worse than labour. From the age of 16 he experienced over 700 attacks lasting generally for 2-3 hours and occurring multiple times in a day.

Steve, never taking any drug before, decided to take a leap of faith into the unknown. He ventured down the woo woo path of psychedelic medicine, psychotherapy and massive amounts of meditation.

This episode we chat about his journey of the first ever headache, his internal struggles and most importantly the lessons he took from undergoing a series of psychedelic ceremonies and rituals.

This episode is probably one of the most interesting and curious conversations we've had on this podcast. Sophia is the founder of perfume brand Vottari who Tully has a perfume collaboration with. Recently at Tully's baby shower we all met Sophia for the very first time and what a magnetic and confident person she is. Little did we know that she was currently attempting a 21 day fast. We were all so curious and fascinated by Sophia and her story that we said don't tell us any more, come on the podcast.

This conversation was as open as you can get. Two people curious about someones story. Sophia, originally from Germany, was of the Muslim faith before become Christian. An open conversation about faith, manifestation, god, the universe, whatever you want to call it. There are so many similarities. Established in 2014 by best friends Sarah Hanah and Jessie Gargan the girls saw a gap in the market for a good leather handbag at an affordable price and went for it. The risk has paid off now, with an incredible turnover each year and employing 20 people the girls are expanding the business. But success doesn't come easy and we talk about the sacrifices, self doubt, fears and challenges that come up in life when you run a business and you want to grow.

Iva Marra is a reality TV and internet personality who Tully has known for quite a while and always described her as one of the smartest and funniest humans you will ever meet. This is very true and we talk about peoples perceptions of you and assumptions when in fact they know nothing about you. Iva is an amazing Mum and wife who studied IT and tenders some of the biggest contracts Australia has even seen but if you only knew her from her instagram you would never get a glimpse of this.

Phil has been a long time friend of ours, he's married to one of our best friends, so the banter is real. Phil has come a long way since he first came to Australia and has gone through several careers but has finally pursued his passion and we couldn't of been happier for him. Phil opens up about a life changing trip to Italy and how it changed his life for the better. All he needs now each day are the things that bring him joy, not materialistic things, and you will be surprised how simple it is to be fulfilled every day.

Hobbies, Eulogies and Dating Stories It's a Mixed Bag

A 5 year old hit me in the face with a hard hitting question the other day. What's your hobby? F*&k me. Does any adult have a hobby that they do in their spare time? We're both on a journey to find a hobby that brings us joy outside of others because as you know adulting - your emotions can't depend on the actions of others. When people ask what have you been up to - work, seeing family and friends.. soon we will be able to say our hobby too ... Pottery? Fencing? Knitting? We're on a hobby off to see what hobby we like best.

We talk about family and friend catch ups and can we do one that doesn't involved food or drinking. We have some friends that do some really fun activities that we talk about.

AND.. is it back? Sarah's dating stories. I was banned for a little bit but I think they could make a comeback.

Slow Girl Things

This week we chat about protein. Are you getting enough? We're both pretty sure we're not. Protein is the building blocks for balanced hormones, body repair, recovery and we don't think we have been getting nearly enough in our diets lately. That is one of our slow girl things. WTF is slow girl things? It's a movement that has been taking over social media lately about women slowing down to repair and recover their body from high stress, high cortisol things. Like HIIT? Switch it for walking or pilates?

Tully also has been removed from all group chats after recording this, not really though, but she talks about how too much screen time at night was contributing to her anxiety and what she was switched it out for instead. All things to set up our days to be a better days and for us to be better each day.

Finding A Gap In The Market with Nicky Verrochi

Nicky Verrochi a Mum, wife, daughter, friend and we hear it a lot from Mum’s after a while, sometimes, there is a deep desire for more than those titles, doing something for themselves, an outlet to fill their cups up.

After having her 2 kids Nicky did just that, she saw a gap in the market for cute, affordable babywear made from organic cotton. Bambi Mini Co was born.

A creative outlet for a creative mind, Nicky dove deep into starting a business and sourcing the highest quality products for the brand. Nicky’s road from start to to launch though was sadly interrupted by a shock diagnosis of her eldest son but this would give greater purpose to Bambi mini co, a major campaign each year donating to Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital. So far the brand has raised over +$200,000.

Bambi was the first apparel brand launched into Chemist Warehouse and over 500 stores and has more international growth on the horizon.

Nicky’s story is a touching and inspiring one. She has built a phenomenal brand whilst navigating one of the hardest situations life could throw at you. A resilient, passionate Mum who is showing people you can do anything and everything, the only limit is yourself.

Human Behaviour and Social Media with Nat Welfare

Nat Welfare is a social media strategist and founder of SZN Social, a Melbourne-based marketing agency working with fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands. Some of SZN's clients include Novo Shoes, The DOM, Pilgrim Clothing, InClinic Cosmetics, Lady PWRZ and Silver Bullet Hair.

But Nat's path to building a marketing agency has not been a typical one. She doesn't have a degree in marketing and she's never worked in an agency in her life.

In fact, she grew up in the country, hailing from the home of the Ute Muster (Deniliiquin, population 8000) where marketing wasn't even a job that existed.

Nat moved to Melbourne after school and got a degree in Psychology with plans to become a clinical psychologist before moving across to work in tech startups where she learnt about lean startup methodology which would later play a key role in developing unique, stand-out marketing content and campaigns.

Nat is fast becoming known for her non-traditional style of marketing, leveraging her background in psychology and startup methodologies to develop formulas for high-performing social media content and marketing campaigns.

The Bali Edit

If you don't go to Europe in Winter than more than likely you will go to Bali. It's Australia's favourite holiday destination and we give you the tea what how to prepare before you go, places to stay, the do's and don'ts to stay safe (listen about gojeks).

How was our trip? Where did we go? Where did we stay?

Our favourite spot was the Cali Villas in Canggu after that we used Cherry to book our next accomodation and saved ourself a pretty penny. One of us did everything you're not supposed to do in Bali whilst the other one wrapped herself in cotton wool and guess who didn't get Bali Belly.

A Second Chance at Life

We are back! As you can tell we were a little bit rusty in the our life update but Season 12 kicks off with a really important conversation and something we have never really spoken about with our friends and family Organ Donation.

Donate a life week is from 23rd-30th July. Only 1 in 10 Australians are registered for organ donation even though 80% of Australians support organ donation. What is it like knowing you need an organ donation, being on the list and finally getting the life saving organ? We talk to Clare Beatson who has born with cystic fibrosis a double lung recipient on what the life has been like before, during and after her receiving a new set of lungs.

Currently there are over 1,800 people on the organ waitlist - peoples Mums, Dads, brothers, sisters, family and friends and one organ donor can save the lives of up to 7 people and change

the lives of many more.

Life is Not Always What you Expect with Tully Smyth

Trigger warning for listeners. In this episode we do speak about fertility and egg freezing. If this is something that makes you extremely uncomfortable we would suggest not listening or only listening until the 15 minute mark.

Tully Smyth has nearly been in the public eye longer than she hasn't. Her formative years of her 20's we're broadcasted across Australia for everyone to form opinions, beliefs of who she is. It has taken until now for her to block out the noise and come back to who she actually is, without anyone else's opinions or thinking she has to be someone.

Like many women these days Tully had expectations of what her life would like by her mid 30's, one of them was being a Mum, her priority in life, and when that reality doesn't meet your expectations it can lead to many feelings but today women have a choice egg freezing - something that Tully has brought her audience along the journey with and she opens up why.

Tully talks openly about the rollercoaster of egg freezing with us, we ask all the questions, and now have a clear understanding when, why, how it's done if it's something you are thinking about.

Learn The Language of Your Body

It's that time of year again when everyone seems to crack, what happens if you just push through though? Don't do it. If you take anything from this weeks episode where we talk about burnout and learning the language of your body - you need a break.

First of all we go on a bit of a tangent but it's an important one so it also makes the episode subject - we talk money and we normalise talking money with your friends. Again it only takes one person to be vulnerable and honest in a conversation and it opens the door for others. We realised that the worst part of going through something is actually the internal conversation, once you air it to someone it loses power over you. Talk to your friends, be honest, you will probably help them more then you know by being honest.

Secondly we get to what Tully wanted to discuss - understanding the language of your body. Seems quite a sexual title but it's the complete opposite. We talk about burnout and how to avoid burnout. From our own experiences and what we do now to know if our body is under stress. We have drunk the Kool Aid and do cold therapy but honestly it has helped and we talk about that experience. We will also share the wheel of life and how you can map out where you're at currently in different categories in your life and what might need a bit more attention on our Curious Conversations instagram page here. From being on stage in theatre and plays instead of being on the playgrounds at primary school Ari didn't have a conventional childhood. The Story of Lauren Mackellar

This conversation is one that is close to our heart. Lauren Mackellar is a dear friend of ours - we travelled together, worked together and for many years have known she has been developing an amazing luxe haircare brand Robe.

In 2022 Lauren found a brain tumour in her head that would force her to no longer be the amazing hair stylist to many of Australia's leading celebs. The launch of Robe was delayed and after losing her hair to treatment and after being told that her hair would no longer grow again due to the stress of radiation Lozz used her own range to experiment on how effective the serum and other products were. From being told you weren't going to have hair again to having a full head of hair we have to say Lauren's knowledge and passion for haircare and her own results speak for themselves.

When you have lived for 95 years you've definitely seen a lot and the old saying that you only get wiser as you get older seems to getting truer and truer even as we get older. Nanna Shirl, Sarah's Nan, is 95 years old and one of the wisest people we know so we sat down and chatted with both her and Pa, Alex.

Nan is one of the greatest story tellers we know and is always so animated. We chat about life, growing up and getting sent away from your parents for quarantine (it makes us look soft compared to covid) what it was like back in the "old days", war, post war and what's the secret to a successful marriage.

Tully also wants to rally for Nan to become a David Jones ambassador so maybe we should do that?!

Renece Brewster 14 years ago began her start up journey with her business partner and launched Visual Domain. To make ends meet Renece worked 4 jobs including delivering pizza (the time before Uber eats). These are some of the things we don’t see or hear from entrepreneurs - how much they had to actually do - the hustle and grind - to get where they are today. The story behind the journey.

Today Renece’s start up Visual Domain is Australia’s leading video platform developer with over 100 employees. We consume so much video content without actually realising all across social media, on web pages, on TV and it’s only growing.

We talk about brands creating connection with their audiences, how does video content differ from all the different platforms (instagram, Tik Tok etc), what brands can do to improve their video marketing, being a leader, growing a business, raising money and hurdles she has faced along the way being a female founder in a male dominant industry.

Melbourne Mum Ali Clarke turned her side hustle maternity leave project into a thriving multi million dollar in just over a 2 year period. Ali saw a gap in the market after receiving several dermaplaning facials and the amazing benefits, at $150 a pop this 20 minute treatment was not a regular or affordable luxury for most people hence dermaplaning at home and Bondi Blades was born.

Since the last year of lockdowns and plenty of screen time for all Bondi Blades has had phenomenal growth which Ali attest to Tik Tok and influences which has now helped push the product out to distribution throughout Australia.

Never heard of dermplaning? It's an exfoliating treatment that uses a scalpel or sharp blade to create an even skin tone and texture by removing dead skin cells and the "peach fuzz" hairs from your face. Haunted Mental Asylum With David The Medium

So one of us thought it was a great idea to go to one of Australia's most haunted places - Larundal mental asylum, an old abandoned psychiatric hospital in Melbourne Australia. We weren't going ghost hunting alone so who better to call then the ghosbuster himself the world-renowned medium David The Medium.

On the outskirts of Melbourne Larundal has a long list of supernormal activity and has been a very popular destination for paranormal explorers. It was built in 1938 but was interrupted by war and didn't start housing psychiatric patients until 1953. It housed one of Australia's most notorious serial killers and was the birthplace of medical lithium used to treat people with bipolar disorder. The site itself is very eery, sombre - you just feel uneasy. Currently it's in the process of being demolished to make way for houses.

If there was one person that we knew we could find spirits with it was David The Medium. Since talking about our experience with Larundal we learnt that is has been an explored site for many of our friends as we grew up and we chatted with our best mate Christian Rocchi about his eery experience at the same mental asylum.

Back for another conversation is our dear friend Lola Berry. A leader in the wellness scene in Australia, TV presenter and author Lola has just wrapped up her 14 day hotel quarantine in Sydney after arriving back from her second home LA where she is making waves in acting and TV presenting.

We chatted to Lola on day 13th of quarantine about the whole experience of travelling overseas and returning now that Australian international borders look to be opening up soon. There's tips and tricks on how to best prepare for the inevitable quarantine, what to expect when flying and what's it's currently like on the ground in LA and how the last 2 years have changed.

How important is your morning coffee? It's more impactful than you know and for most it's one of the first conversations we have with someone and it can absolutely change the trajectory of our day. We sat down with Damien Bugeja - runner, charity founder, barista and a conversation starter.

Through life experiences of losing his Father, becoming a carer and mental health struggles Damien learned that with life we need empathy. All people want is love, belonging and connection. He shifted his focus from 'me' to 'we'.

In 2020 Damien ran from Craigieburn to Mulwala - 290 km to raise funds for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre then again a 24 hour marathon around the Maribyrnong River. This week he'll be doing the vulnerability 48 hour run around the Marby to bring together community and just maybe have some meaningful conversations. Anyone can join in - we'll be getting down there for a couple of laps too.

His story is phenomenal, he is phenomenal and there are some definite life bangers in this episode. We hope that at the end you're phoning your Mum, Dad, friends and other family- anyone important to you after listening to this one. Enjoy

This week we sit down with the woman who gave birth to one of us.. Barb Wood aka Sarah's Mum. Mum is a psychotherapist who generally we all turn to when we need some psycho analysing or just some wise words from someone. Her speciality is oncology therapy with people and their families to help them process their life and get a better understanding of who they are. Mum dives deep into the top regrets of her patients when it is just a little too late.. things they wished they would have know before. We chat about grief - different types of grief because it's an emotion that inevitably we will all go through one day.

From working with patients that are so ill and seeing the financial burden of treatment motivated Mum to start her non-for-profit charity Boob Buddies which provides in home therapy for people. If that's not enough she has also developed a medically approved method for breast checking and breast awareness the ABCD method. Not bad for someone whose life was flipped upside down at the age of 55 and who had never been to university or worked before. She's amazing and doing amazing things to help others live a better life and we're grateful we can always call on her for some wisdom.

This weeks episode we turned our group text thread into a curious conversation. To be honest it sucks being in Melbourne right now. We talk about lockdown, what we've been up to, politics, the economy, hospitality basically anything that's been happening in the news in Melbourne we talk about because that's what our message thread looks like also. We have to admit though we do go a bit easy on our thoughts and opinions in this conversation. We'd rate this an MA, group message we can get up to R18+.

We recorded this before we knew that we'd be in a further lockdown until end of September (stage 4) not seeing friends and family and to be honest with the 'road map' out who knows when we will be at the next stage. I know we're over it but we're proud of how much Victorians have endured. We will get out of this soon, we will never take for granted going to a friends place or being able to sit down at a restaurant.

Stephanie Matsuba - Talks Black Lives Matter & Growing up Black

This weeks conversation is a conversation Tully and I have wanted to have for a many weeks. We spend a lot of time based in LA and one of our closest friends there Steph is Black. Steph comes from an amazing family and works as chief of staff at a tech company.

When the Black Lives Matter movement gained world wide attention in June we saw global rallying and the power of people. The whole world had paused for covid and something that has been happening for generations in the USA, police brutality, was thrusted in front of us. No longer would the world be distracted by life and turn a blind eye to what is happening and has happened over the years. It was a time to educate ourselves and check ourselves - how have we lived in the past and how do want to move forward into our future?

As white person and a friend we both wanted to be there for Steph and all our black friends but we didn’t know how to support a black friend. We reached out but we knew it was a time for space but support - was the black tile enough? Should I take it down? We were very confused of what the right thing to do was to support this motion especially during corona and lockdowns.

Tully and I both wanted to educate ourselves on the movement and the history of black lives so we could gain some perspective and moving forward how can we be there for Steph, our black friends and in general a better person.

This chat means a lot to Tul and I. We appreciate Steph so much on being so vulnerable, raw and honest in speaking about experiences being a black women in LA and her time also living in Australia.

Can we comprehend being run off the road just because of the colour of my skin? Hell no. Can we comprehend knowing growing up police will treat us differently. No way. But Steph chats about these which actually happened to her. She gives us perspective on how it actually feels to be black.

We walked away from this conversation with Steph open to a world we never knew existed.

Sarah Pasini: Getting to know

Like last week, this episode was a “practice run” so again – please be kind and is now a few months old, pre-covid. It was a lot of fun.

I (Tully) even learnt a few things about the girl that I call my best friend, business partner and now co-host of Curious Conversations. I sat down with my my go to wing women Sarah. Who let’s say is not very active on the socials, which I secretly love about her. We had a lot of listeners requesting an episode where we could get to know her a little deeper. We touch on a serious motorbike accident that she had as a teen, that nearly had her lose a leg and how it changed her life for the best.

Sally O'Neil - The Fit Foodie Talks Health, Wellness & The Obsession with Being Healthy

Today's chat we sat down with blogger, foodie and author Sally O'Neil aka the fit foodie. Once a backpacker with no idea how to boil an egg Sal has built a religious following over her fitspo instagram and whole food recipes after turning her life around and finally learning how to cook.

Sally talks about when building her career in health & wellness her attitude to being healthy became obsessive. This unhealthy behaviour lead to excessive loss of weight, periods, hair a misdiagnosis of anorexia and eventually a diagnosis of orthorexia - an eating disorder that involves an unhealthy obsession with healthy eating. Sally speaks about her experience over the years with this disorder and how she found balance and healthy relationship with food and exercise.

This chat is very real and honest. It’s something that Tul and I both relate to after having similar experiences to Sally when we were both younger

Trent Cotchin on AFL in 2020 and Nearly Walking Away From AFL

Today's chat we were lucky enough to sit down with 2 x premiership captain, Brownlow medal winner, AFL player and captain of the Richmond Football Club Trent Cotchin.

Trent's won every award that you could possibly win in the AFL but it hasn't always been a smooth sailing for this down to earth Dad and all round nice guy. Trent opens up about both the ultimate highs, winning premierships, and the lowest of lows which had him nearly walking away on the game.

We talk about the upcoming 2020 season which will kick off (again) this week, what life was like during lockdown and his new business venture Posi Socks.
