024 | Before we dove deep into the world of electrification and solar on farms we touched on Denmark's latest annoucement - the first country in the world to tax agri emissions but its not law yet! - will they make it further than anyone else? The UK have had a change in govt, what does it mean for ag and trade? and finally maze maze the amazing maize, well not quite so quickly! there are huge supply chain issues cause all sorts of problems for those growing maize for grain in the North Island.

This week we had the epic Mike Casey from Forest Lodge Orchard and Rewiring Aotearoa co-hosting the pod with us. He is a "nerd" (of his own admission) in the world of electrification, he's blazing the trial right out front showing the rest of us what can be done. He's then very kindly sharing all his knowledge so we can learn and uptake as quickly as possible. This is an exciting conversation that really ignited the flame of opportunity and how farming can be a solution to the country!

011 | Hot news topics were aplenty this week, we highlight the shipment of Australian fertiliser which landed at Primeport Timaru, the increasing demand for NZ beef in the US and the massive vertical farming operations being developed in Dubai.

We then dug into the Our Land and Water Project - Farming for Good including the Food and Farming People’s Panel which was released last week which highlighted this great work.

006 | It’s International Women’s Day (March 8 2024) and to celebrate the day we have looked into the past, the present and the future of rural women in New Zealand.

We dig into the land girls, who kept the lights on and the troops fed in WWII, without recognition until 2011!!!!!!!! Discuss the transition from city life to farm life in the early 60’s with Emily’s Nana - Margaret Gualter.

Look into the Agri-Women’s Development Trust and the great work of Lindy Nelson to get that off the ground, the fantastic strides women have made, even in just the last few years

004 | It's one year on from Cyclone Gabrielle creating havoc and mayhem everywhere it went, this week the girls dive into where all the kumara has gone and when it will be back on our shelves - spoiler alert fingers crossed very soon! and also the ongoing project - the check-in - to support those who have been and continue to be effected - it is a series of events and courses to support wellbeing. ‘Checking-in’ is run by the Agri-Women’s Development Trust, Rural Women New Zealand and Farmstrong with support from the Rural Support Trust. The project is funded by the Ministry for Primary Industries.
