Join us for an hour-long conversation between Alexander Komlosi, the host and artistic director of the series, and our final guest of Artists Talking this season, Charlotta Kerbs.

Charlotta is a singer, composer and music educator. She is deeply rooted in soul, jazz and folk, but is renowned for her versatility and seamless moving between musical cultures and genres. She is based in the countryside of Ostrobothnia, Finland, and tours and works in the USA, Africa and all over Europe.

Charlotta and Alex discuss how to maintain one’s artistic integrity while giving generously to an audience, art as means of personal expansion as well as social and spiritual connection, and the joys and difficulties of cross-cultural creative collaboration. This episode concludes with a delightful spontaneous musical performance featuring Charlotta and her musical partner, Sanjay Khan.

Join us for an hour-long conversation between Alexander Komlosi, the host and artistic director of the series, and Meri Helmi Särkkä.

Meri Helmi Särkkä (Formerly known as Mariam Haji) is a Bahraini multi-disciplinary fine artist who currently lives and works in Porvoo, Finland. She works with different mediums ranging from drawing and painting to video and performance. In 2021, Mariam represented the Kingdom of Bahrain in Finland’s most prominent leading Art festival ‘Mänttä Art Festival’. She also represented her country as Mariam Haji in the 55th Venice Biennale 2013 and was the winner of Bahrain's 38th National Fine Art Competition for her “Muse” series, the youngest female artist to receive an honorary award from his Excellency the Prime Minister of Bahrain Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa in 2012.

Meri Helmi and Alex talk about what it means to balance the personal with the professional as an artist, creating art in a way that you stay true to yourself, and the cross-cultural challenges of creating art in Finland. Meri Helmi also shares details of her colourful life journey.

Join us for an hour-long conversation between Alexander Komlosi, the host and artistic director of the series, and Mikhail Durnenkov.

Mikhail is a playwright and screenwriter well-known in Russia and abroad and based in Helsinki since March 2022 after leaving Russia due to his anti-war stance. . He began writing for theatre in 2000, and has been working professionally in the field since 2003. He is a member of the “New Drama” movement of contemporary Russian playwrights. Mikhail is the author of screenplays and award-winning plays. His play, Lyhyt episodi sienisivilisaation universaalissa historiassa, was recently presented (February 2023) at Espoo Kaupunginteatteri with Klockriketeater.

In this episode, Mikhail and Alex spoke about how to overcome the challenges of language and cultural differences in art-making, the therapeutic function of art, how art can show us the possible consequences of our choices, and how to learn from art you might not like.
