Let’s be honest, Christmas is going to be a bit different this year. When I was thinking about some of the things that mean most to me at Christmas, watching Love Actually is at the top of the list. Taking us behind the scenes today is the Hair and Make-up director from the film, Graham Johnston.

Zoe Boikou on Zoeva Cosmetics, the global beauty brand founded from her living room

Today I’m talking to Zoe Boikou, the founder of Zoeva Cosmetics. Zoe’s story is fascinating; she started Zoeva in 2008 in her living room, with an eBay account and 10 brushes to sell. By 2016 she had sold over 5 million brushes, and today Zoeva comprises over 300 products and tools.

What really struck me was Zoe’s inspiration for starting the brand. We recorded this podcast some time ago, so her ‘new’ foundation is now well and truly out there, and any other references like where we are and any travel were of course part of life before lockdown.

Joining me today is Azzi Glasser, a master perfumer who creates fragrances for everyone you can think of. Azzi is one of the most fascinating women I have ever met in beauty, and I love that she is led to create by her instincts.

Azzi works closely with all kinds of creatives, making completely bespoke fragrances for them, whether to wear in their personal life or sometimes to help them get into a new character if they’re playing a role in a film. Estee Lalonde talks the true love and loss of our pets

Today I’m joined by a lovely friend of mine, Estee Lalonde. A girl of many talents, she writes an award winning blog, hosts her own podcasts, wrote a best selling book and creates her own jewellery line with Daisy.

Though she’s known for her creative pursuits, today Estee and I are going to talk about our favourite pets. She kindly trusts me to share the story of losing her beloved dog, Reggie, some time ago, and her grief journey. And we talk about the beauty of new beginnings, as she welcomes her new little Effie into her life and tells me a little bit about the Wild at Heart foundation, a charity dedicated to adopting dogs.

A journey of grief with Hannah Martin

This morning I’m tucked away with my friend Hannah at her house in South East London. She’s one of the industry’s most well respected make-up artists and her breadth of work spans just about everything. She’s widely known for her work with many of the royals. For years she worked with Bobbi Brown herself as part of the Global Leadership Team at the brand. She teaches make-up, regularly works with celebrity clients and at fashion week, or hosting masterclasses for the likes of IMATS, Delamar Academy and Vogue.

Inspiring a Young Woman to Write Her Future: How Lancome are Mentoring Women with Literacy Needs

Did you know that 1 in 7 women in the UK lack basic literacy skills, impacting their ability to confidently read and write? Today, Lancome share the story of how they work with the National Literacy Trust to mentor young women in the UK with literacy needs.

Emilie Marsh, Director of Communications at Lancome UK, joins me to explain how the two work together. She also discusses her experience as a successful working woman with dyslexia. Billie Dunne, Programme Manager at the National Literacy Trust, explains how this programme helps young women to reach their full potential and increases their employability.

I supported a mentoring session earlier this year and have seen first hand the impact these sessions have on a young woman’s confidence. I was surprised to learn how many people (especially women) struggle with basic literacy skills, and I hope someone listening may be inspired to reach out and seek support if this impacts them too.

Today I’m joined by Dominic Skinner, Global Senior Artist at MAC Cosmetics and judge on BBC’s Glow Up, to discuss the journey of VIVA GLAM Lipsticks and their 25-year charitable heritage at MAC.

To date, MAC have donated $500 million USD to organisations around the world in support of people living with HIV and/or AIDS. Recently, they announced that they have expanded the beneficiaries of the VIVA GLAM campaign to include Planned Parenthood, GLAAD in support of LGBTQ+ rights and Girls Inc.

The full recommended retail price (RRP) (less VAT) of VIVA GLAM Lipstick is donated to organisations that support the health and rights of people of All Ages, All Races and All Genders. MAC also make grants to non-profit organisations they believe can make a meaningful impact on health, rights and equality. Dominic and I have known each other for many years and in the excitement of catching up we may have expressed this a little differently! When I talk about proceeds from the lipstick, and Dominic talks about every single penny going to the charity, this is what we really mean.
