Ep 89: The El Niño Prognosis

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has recently declared that we are now in an El Niño event. This climate phenomenon involves the warming of the sea surface temperatures in the tropical regions of the Pacific Ocean, forming part of the ENSO (El Nino-Southern Oscillation). We discuss what this El Niño may entail, and subsequently how to prepare for the summer heat in Australia.

Today we're joined by Dr James Hunter, the Curator of Naval Heritage and Archaeology at the Australian National Maritime Museum. In this podcast, we embark on various historical pieces of iconic Naval warfare vessels, including the H.L. Hunley and the HMAS Perth. We also touch on the promising future of technology in Marine Archeology and how it impacts the wider STEM field, including some exciting topics around 3D modelling and advanced sensing.

Ep 82: Breakdown of the IPCC Report 2023

As usual, we are late to the party but still eager as ever to talk about the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and this year's report, published on March 20th, 2023. The new report, also known as 'AR6 Synthesis Report,' finds that there is more than a 50% chance that the global temperature rise will reach or surpass 1.5°C between 2021 and 2040.

An Engineer, a Holocaust survivor, a writer/activist and, most importantly, a family man.

Eddie Jaku (born Abraham Jakubowicz), was born and raised in Leipzig, Germany, to Jewish parents. During the Nazi regime, he was sent to multiple concentration camps, including the infamous Auschwitz, before surviving through WW2 and moving to Australia in 1950.

His life is the centre piece of today's conversation, as we look over his memoir, The Happiest Man on Earth, and pay homage to a man who dedicated his life advocating for peace and kindness.
