Either as a participant or spectator, sport plays a role in most people's lives and for a lot of us, football is a sport we can all relate to.

'Away Days' is a 15 minute short film that focuses on two brothers, attempting to rekindle their relationship after a sudden loss in their family, through their local football team. George takes time out to discuss his project and how he has connected with people along the way.

It was a pleasure speaking with George and taking me through his journey from funding to casting has been an insight into his passion for local football and connecting with people along the way.

I’ve spoken to many talented people who have seen opportunities where others have not and taken the journey into their own hands. Nena did just that.

Taking the leap to produce her own film after 25 years in project management, partly to support her eldest daughter who is an actress, was a leap into the unknown, especially when you consider the logistics of where all the actresses were based.

This is the beginning of each of their individual journeys and it shows that creative people find creative ways to overcome obstacles.

This was recorded over three different time zones and I’d like to thank Nena & Debora for taking the time out to chat with me.

In order to succeed, we learn and we quickly adapt to each situation. This what best describes Harry Wells.

Taking the plunge to shoot your own film is never easy. There can be many setbacks along the way. How we overcome those setbacks can shape the outcome of the project and with some quick thinking, he wrote and produced the film Clockwork that won an award for best micro budget short film at the Hastings Rocks Film Festival and will hopefully win another award at the Brighton Rocks Film Festival and you the film is also showing on the local Brighton TV channel latest.

The film was made on a budget of practically £0, shot on an iPhone, with a crew of about three people. He started making this film with the deadline for the festival in mind and came through many trials and tribulations to get this film across the line.

In this relaxed chat that could’ve gone on longer than it did, James talks about how the different careers he has had has helped him settle into life behind the scenes as a runner. He discusses the role of a runner and how specialised it is, the more experience you get on set.

It is often taken for granted that people just do it for the love of the arts but you also have to know your craft even if you are not sure what the next project will be. Sara talked about how she overcame her difficulties during the pandemic to put together a short film. Putting women at the center of her stories, her attention to detail is great to hear and it brings layers to the projects she works on.

Every actor likes to push themselves but likes to be comfortable with what they are doing and Sara took time with her actors to go through what they need to do to deal with sensitive issues but also empowered the actors to talk to each other about their levels of comfort filming such scenes.

I’ve had the pleasure of watching you work first hand and it is always a joy for me to hear someone go out of their comfort zone to do something that goes against their nature for their art. When you are a risk taker, you take risks and worry about the consequences later. For most of us, we take small risks and worry about them until that time has passed. Martyn embraces the rebel within and uses it as his motivation to be someone different in each of his performances.

We should all be rebellious! Take a chance (there’s a song in there somewhere)! Be the person we want to be and try to do the things that make us happy but also takes us out of our comfort zone every now and then because we’re worth it.

I had the pleasure of chatting with the wonderful Patricia Jones about her journey as an actor and author.

Lockdown was different for everyone and what people did with their time varied. Patricia kept herself busy and wrote a book based on things she noticed and heard during lockdown when she attended a number of online sessions. Actors new to the industry always had the same set of questions and obstacles often based on their ability to pay for training, headshots etc. With this in mind Patricia put together a resource book filled with information about where to train without attending an expensive drama school or moving to London, how to get the best out of your showreel and headshots and much more. There are listings of photographers, training schools and showreel companies. Patricia also added sections on agents and the casting process so it covers pretty much all bases for the new actor.

The book was originally aimed at working class actors and those from low income backgrounds but as she discovered during the year since writing it, there is a much greater need than first anticipated. To this end she has updated and revised the book and renamed it 'Becoming an Actor Without The Drama'. The focus remains the same but is now more inclusive for all new actors and graduates.
