Maria Sundell is a clinical neurologist with experience in cognitive medicine. After realizing that healthcare is largely focused on the brain when something goes wrong, she wanted to learn more about what a truly healthy, happy brain looks like and has since pivoted into more research-based work and launched the podcast; Brain Observations. Similar to her work there, this episode explores what factors related to brain health, cultivating the mind, and psychological well-being that contributes to a truly healthy, happy life, and why.

When you understand yourself better it is easier to find what makes you as an individual thrive and feel joy. When you understand the mind better it is easier to find peace. When you understand the brain better you see the possibilities.

Numerous methodologies and terminologies stem from the emerged collection of studies on the effects of psychological, cognitive, emotional, cultural, and social factors on the economic decisions of individuals and institutions.

We tend to emphasize efficiency. Understandable given our modern times and that the increased access to data allows us to track our production capacity in novel ways. But, forecasts are becoming obsolete in times of rapid change, and perfect flexibility and agility are costly to achieve. If not impossible. Our best hedge against uncertainty and change might require us to extend our attention to effectiveness rather than efficiency.

In other words, you are doing the right thing before doing that thing right.

How They Learned: Roger Dupé about breaking the norm

The first black male model from Sweden, Roger Dupé is today internationally renowned and has worked for brands like Kenzo, Vogue, Jean-Paul Gaultier, GQ, Acne Studios, and Björn Borg.

In 2016, Dupé became historic as the first black model to front the exclusive Rolls-Royce brand. Now he has released his book, Den Motvilliga Modellen (The Swedish Model), in which he describes his journey into modeling and fight for equality.

Gather Series E05: Virtually Love

New social behaviors have emerged, such as the subtle art (and the draining headache) of flirting through emojis and even sending nudes. Are relationships the social ritual that has been the most affected by technology? Are dating apps the reason why love has become both more social and anti-social, all at the same time? Join us in investigating the state of love in the age of dating apps, the developing immersive virtual realities, and human-robotics interactions.

Lina Maria Mannheimer is a Swedish filmmaker that set out to investigate young love. She decided to follow two Millennials over the internet, to track each of their dating habits, and see how they create their digital personas over a year. Having found her two subjects, the film takes an unforeseen twist when they start dating one another.

Dr. Josue Ortega is a researcher at the Center for European Economic Research in Mannheim, Germany. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Glasgow and has studied how online dating and other technologies facilitate social integration.

Ylva Hansdotter helped create the world’s first Virtual Reality app store while working with HTC Vive in Silicon Valley (US), where she also initiated and directed a program to support VR-experiences with positive effect towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In 2018, she was invited to become a fellow of the prestigious World Economic Forum ’Global Future Council’ of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality.

Elizabeth Jochum is an Associate Professor in the Research Laboratory for Art and Technology at Aalborg University (Denmark). Her current book project, Deus Ex Machina: Robots on Stage in the Second Machine Age, surveys the field of robot performance across theatre, dance, opera, and visual art.

By your regular use of websites, apps, and social media, you create data related to your daily routines, what you buy, whom you talk to and whom you date. As we have come to spend increased amounts of time online, there is an increased effort in assuring our digital lives are allowed democracy.

So, how can we adapt our economic growth to our social emergencies? How can we utilize data to achieve diversity and inclusion? How can we keep our integrity online, without having to give up our digital lives altogether? In this episode, we are joined by four experts in different fields of our digital being, to explore these questions further.

During the Swedish elections 2018, Maria Fabricius co-founded Open Act, a Human Rights organization monitoring and analyzing politician's rhetorical framing of immigrants and the effect on public discourse, policy, and segregation. Open Act is currently collaborating with experts within tech, politics, and rhetorics in Sweden and in Europe to create a digital platform that will be able to monitor media’s and politician's use of framing.

Suzan Lindberg is the CEO of Scandinavia’s only insight-driven diversity management agency The Social Few. Together with David Khabazzi, who is the head of insights, they utilize their background from data-driven insights, digital marketing, and business development to create inclusive infrastructures in organizations and society.

Abel Buko is a romantic academic who fell backwards into and was momentarily lost in the advertising world. He’s recently found himself fighting for the future of the Internet from the inside. He is presently the Insights Director at Bannerboy, a digital advertising agency headquartered in Stockholm. His main areas of research include the history of digital advertising, the role an advertising-funded Internet plays in a democratic Internet, and how Internet activity affects climate change.

Learn about the history of Pride: Mark Segal & Juliet Atto

In July 1969, the Stonewall Inn was raided by the police's so-called, Public Morals Squad. This was normal at the time, but what's significant about this occurrence is the fact that this time the people stood up and fought back. This moment is marked as the start of the LGBTQ movement as we know it today. One year later Pride was born.

Mark Segal was present at the riots of Stonewall Inn and became an activist and a well-known figure in the fight for human rights by highjacking Walter Cronkite's live CBS broadcast to as many as 66 million Americans. He then founded the Philadephia Gay News in 1976 and is still running the paper. He has also, amongst many things, authored the book "And Then I Danced: Traveling the Road to LGBT Equality", as well as collaborated with Barack Obama in a $19 million housing project for the communities senior citizens.

We are also joined by Juliet Atto, who is a journalist and the co-founder of the community Black Queers Sweden. Together they teach us about the once suppressed history, the modern fight for human rights, and the future of community forming and belonging.

He studied peace and conflict in London, CouchSurfed in Iran while writing his master's thesis, and then joined an international humanitarian organization called Nonviolent Peaceforce in South Sudan.

How To Navigate In This Information Age

It's probably curiosity that leads you to listen to this podcast. I know it is curiosity that drives me to create it. So, our goal is to explore ways we can monetize on this superpower labeled curiosity and dive deeper into "how to navigate and win in this information age.

We've learned more about the human brain the past ten years than we've ever known, but we are still in the process of converting this science into applicable knowledge.

IQ - Intelligence Quotient tests are indicators of something, but we still haven't defined intelligence, so how much should we lean on these indicators and what do they really tell us about potential? While the popularisation of Emotional Intelligence Quotient (EQ or EI) by Daniel Goleman through his book "Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ.", gave us a more diverse representation of general intelligence by taking to account our social, emotional and moral abilities. A great indicator of potential interpersonal skills and self-awareness. Useful, yes, but far from the full picture.

What are forward-thinking companies of this modern era looking for? What are the most successful entrepreneurs repeatedly accrediting their success to? LQ - Learnability Quotient, is the measurement of one's desire and ability to learn. Although a relatively novel theory of intelligence, today, these dispositions are traits that organisations are actively looking to develop in individuals.
