In this episode Vincent, one our BCC members and welcomers, shares his experience of how God's love brought him to faith and shaped his lifestyle choices, how through the community of faith he found his wife, how by God's mercy he survived a stabbing attack, and how by God's grace he publicly forgave his attacker. Vincent testifies: "I have Jesus, He has done many things for me and his promises to me are yes and amen."


In our talk, Pastor Peter Clothier shares three characteristics of God's love. This love is completely undeserved. This is one of the reasons Jesus was, and continues to be, so attractive to people who are broken, who are outcasts, sinful, and considered disreputable by their wider society. In a powerful image, Peter imagines us being invited to a screening of our own personal version of This is Your Life, in which our every thought and action is made visible to the world. Who would want to be invited to that? Yet Jesus - the one who knows us completely - is the one who loves us the most.


Peter goes on to share that God's love is demonstrated - in Jesus coming to earth, showing God's character through His actions and teaching, and ultimately through His own self-sacrifice on our behalf. 


Thirdly, God's love is transformational. Peter's talk draws extensively from the writings of the apostle John who is often called the apostle of love. Yet as we read about John in the gospels we see the John whom Jesus called to be His disciple was impetuous, volatile, and ambitious. Jesus gave him and his brother James the nick-name "Sons of Thunder." When John writes about Jesus in his gospel, and in his letters to his churches, we see a man transformed by the love of God.


Peter invites us to embrace that love today, and submit ourselves to its transforming power.

  4. Are you ready? Risen from death, Jesus is with you forever - He will never leave you nor forsake you. Here's a prayer you can say to start your journey with Jesus.


Pastor Steve concludes by encouraging us to pray for, and to open to, opportunities to share our good news. Look for opportunities to give your booklet away as the result of meaningful conversations. Pastor Steve shares from Habakkuk. The prophet was writing in a time when Israel had been reduced to two tribes - Judah and Benjamin (collectively known as "Judah" for short). Judah wasn't wholeheartedly following the Lord, and was about to be threatened with invasion and deportation from the great regional power of the day - Babylon. Habakkuk complains to God about His apparent lack of intervention to address unrighteousness in Judah. When God tells the prophet that He has a plan - bringing judgement on Judah through the Babylonians - this creates further questions for Habakkuk. How can God use the ungodly to bring judgement? We see how God meets Habakkuk in his confusion and complaint, bringing him on a journey through turmoil to greater trust, culminating in worship and one of Scripture's most powerful professional of faith. Habakkuk saw the problems with his nation - today, through social media, we can see the affairs of the whole world. Like the prophet, we can respond with honest lament about what we see, allow the Lord to lead us on a journey of greater understanding into some of His ways, whilst ultimately trusting in His sovereignty for what we don't understand. God has both the present and future in His hands. Pastor Steve encourages us to find verses in Habakkuk to add to those we considered last week (see below), to give us confidence, faith, and focus as we we bring our own troubles to God through intercession. to allow Him to expand our vision of Him, and to be open to new and ever more powerful encounters in His presence.

Good news. There is increasing evidence of a growing interests in spirituality in the UK, especially with young adults from what social researchers call Gen z (Zoomers) born 1997 - 2012 . Some call this "A Quiet Revival", and some an "awakening." Whatever we call it, a growing number of young adults are engaging with faith in a way that previous generations did not. Research shows that 62% of 18-24-year-olds describe themselves as “very” or “fairly” spiritual. Only 13% of Generation Z identify as atheists - far lower than the 20% of millennials (also known as Generation Y - born 1981-1996) and 25% Generation X (born 1965-1980). This suggests that Gen Z is approaching faith differently—not necessarily through traditional institutions but by exploring spirituality on their own terms. This is both good news and contested ground.


Whilst many are exploring spirituality other places, many are looking for it in Christianity. According to Nielsen BookScan data, UK Bible sales grew from £2.69 million in 2019 to £5.02 million in 2024—an increase of £2.33 million over just four years - sales mainly driven by Gen Z.


In the first part of 2026 BCC is responding to these opportunities - and challenges - by calling the church to pray. In this talk, given during our monthly communion service, Pastor Steve gives us three headings and three sets of verses we can use. As you listen to the podcast, why not look up these verses and, as Pastor Steve makes space in the meeting for prayer, you can pause the recording and take time to pray yourself before moving on to the next section.

Jesus is the mighty God who demonstrated His power by giving His life for us in suffering at Calvary, overcoming death by His resurrection. As General Eisenhower put it "There are no victories at discount prices.” Jesus is the everlasting Father. We have the Spirit of adoption that assures us we are sons and daughters of the most high God, and that this relationship with Him is unending and unbreakable. Jesus is the prince of peace. Throughout history, powerful rulers have abused their powers which can make us nervous about surrendering to God. But we are reassured that God is holy, and love, and as Isaiah reminds us, His Son is the Prince of Peace. More than tranquility, peace (our translation of the Hebrew shalom) speaks of an overflowing fullness in which everything God has made works harmoniously together to bring about His best and finest purposes. Joe reminds us that the cradle of Jesus's birth points to the cross, and beyond that to His return in glory, establishing His new heaven and new earth. But we are reassured that God is holy, and love, and as Isaiah reminds us, His Son is the Prince of Peace. More than tranquility, peace (our translation of the Hebrew shalom) speaks of an overflowing fullness in which everything God has made works harmoniously together to bring about His best and finest purposes. Joe reminds us that the cradle of Jesus's birth points to the cross, and beyond that to His return in glory, establishing His new heaven and new earth. We are encouraged faithfully to follow Jesus, even in challenging times, in faith that He is establishing His kingdom and in gratitude for His sacrifice as the Prince of Peace who pays the price for our salvation.

The apostle Paul says it's no use comparing yourself to others when asking who the worse sinner is - we have all sinned! Our foundational sin is idolatry - putting something other than God at the centre of our lives. Pastor Steve explains that the "wrath of God" is God's right anger against whatever corrupts His good creation. This wrath is expressed in God "giving over" people to the consequences of their chosen actions. The good news - we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone! How will God now liberate His fallen creation. Pastor Steve takes us on a journey through the Old Testament covenants, division, exile, and restoration of the Israelite tribes, and the warnings and hopes of the Hebrew prophets. He shows how the story moves towards and and is made complete in Jesus and His victory and the amazing freedom in which we now live. As the apostle Paul says, echoing the hopes of the Old Testament people of God: "Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them."

]]> In series on the big story of the Bible, Pastor Steve left us last week at the end of Genesis 3 with mankind subject to the twin powers of sin and death. How will God now liberate His fallen creation. Pastor Steve takes us on a journey through the Old Testament covenants, division, exile, and restoration of the Israelite tribes, and the warnings and hopes of the Hebrew prophets. He shows how the story moves towards and and is made complete in Jesus and His victory and the amazing freedom in which we now live. As the apostle Paul says, echoing the hopes of the Old Testament people of God: "Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them."

]]> Discipleship is more than following up young converts, attending classes or one of the seasonal activities we perform in church. Discipleship is a relational journey with Jesus.  As Pastor Bawa describes it - “It is the fellowship of disciples...followers of Jesus hungry to be more like Him.” Discipleship is a life of supreme love and fullness of submission. It can be hindered by love of other things more than love of God - goods (wealth) goals (un-submitted ambitions) , gowns (intellectual awards) and guns (violence and power to threaten and subjugate others). As well as individuals we disciple institutions and nations. Whose disciple are you?

In this world of war, cost of living and climate crises, political instability and a host of other challenges, where do we find hope? What does agape love mean to you? Our young people, share what agape love means to them. They share what they understand by agape love - a love which “seeks the good of the other above all else” and which “challenges us to go beyond what is easy or convenient.” We catch their vision of God who loves in this way, and learn how they apply this selfless and self-giving love in their relationships with family, friends, and strangers. Join them as they lead us in a time of reflection on God’s love in and through our own personal lives. Please pray that God raises up a generation of young people who are bold and unashamed in their faith.

What do we remember about our first meeting with king Jesus? Ambassadors go wherever the king sends them - Paul called himself an ambassador when we was in prison! What are we trying to build in life? It could be a family, a career, a business, a ministry - whatever it is, it needs to be founded on prayer. In the first of four, highly practical as well as inspirational talks on Nehemiah, Pastor Steve looks at some of Nehemiah's prayers and and encourages us to build four practices into our rhythm of prayer - worship, confession of sin leading to repentance and the liberation of forgiveness, praying the truths of God’s word, and making specific requests for God to answer.

  • From carrying our own struggles, to carrying those of others in the love and strength of God.
  • Living in such freedom in the mercy and love of God that we truly trust that he works all things together for our good.

Pastor Bawa calls us to recognise our need to go deeper with God, and to ask Him what it is in us that hinders our deeper consecration to the Lord.

For this, says Jesus, she will be remembered for ever. What will heaven remember us for? James leaves us with a challenge - this is a day to give ourselves to the Lord. How will we respond to God's love for us by taking up a responsibility that shows our love for Christ?

  • Jesus is our supreme example, and in serving others we both serve Jesus and encounter him.
  • Serving is both working for the Lord and act of worship - we can encourage each other in our life of service by making sure our "thank you quotient" is always much higher than our "complaint quotient."
  • Greatness in the Kingdom of God is measured by service - any power we have through work, status or in the family is given to us by God to enable others to thrive.


Pastor Steve concludes by inviting us to reflect on how Jesus modelled true humility - dying to ourselves to serve the purposes of God.
