Join my conversation with Melissa Jones. Melissa Jones’s musical style and cadence is reminiscent of improvised jazz with an eclectic fusion of neo-soul, hip-hop and r&b. As a singer-songwriter and producer, Melissa channels her energy through free-form scatting and melodic rhythms. Melissa has collaborated with a multitude of musicians and artists and was the former lead singer of soul band No Lovely Thing, a genre-bending 7 piece band that combined a mixture of neo-soul, blues, funk, and alternative rock. Melissa has gone on to record and collaborate with other producers/musicians where she strengthened her songwriting and production skills.

Born and raised in Oakland California, Melissa currently resides in Brooklyn, New York where she is recording and working on her debut solo album with Producer/musician Errick Lewis. Melissa Jones released her first single “Make it last” which was an upbeat neo-soul vibe bringing in the season of love. Melissa tops it off with her latest single “Without you” a refreshing melodic arrangement that flourishes with pulsating synths and classical strings. It’s the perfect blend of Beethoven infused with Badu, a unique twist on soul and symphonic elements. “Without You” shows a different side musically with the consistency of creating imaginative and captivating lyrics along with melodies.

Her soon to be release latest single, “Without You” (released on 5/21/2021) is a song that captures the essence of a lover while simultaneously being compared to the beauty of nature and natural surroundings. What would we do without our natural habitat? What would you do without your true love? Producer, Errick Lewis is the kind of producer that thrives from experimentation and fresh concepts. Episode # 57 - Getting to know Canadian Singer/Songwriter Nuela Charles

Join my conversation with Nuela Charles. The 3x JUNO-Award nominated Nuela Charles is an alternative/soul singer-songwriter known for her soulful vocals and captivating stage presence, solidifying herself as a Canadian music staple. Born in Kenya, raised in Switzerland, Canada and the Bahamas before settling in Canada, Charles' music is infused with her multicultural upbringing, giving a fresh and diverse flare to her sound.

Accompanying her latest single "Space," is the addition of "Nerve" - a collaboration with Don Mills multi-platinum/diamond record producer Don Mills (Giveon, Snoh Allegra, Juice WRLD), Laura Welsh (Fifty Shades of Grey Soundtrack) and James Edgar, the track is another example of the sass and grit that spouts from Charles' impassioned stories and sound. The song has Bond-esque strings, courtesy of JUNO nominated producer/mixer Ryan Worsley who helped finish the production, that fill the chorus in tension and a throbbing bassline which provides a backdrop for the layered, harmonious vocals. Charles explains, "As a woman, there are many empowerment songs out there, but this one takes a more sassier approach saying – don't try me, don't test me". The track is highly empowering and rich in confidence.

Charles has brought her distinct voice to various stages over the last several years - having performed notably at Reeperbahn Festival in Germany, making her UK debut in London, and making her US debut at the uber-coveted "It's A School Night" by personal invitation by tastemaker and KCRW radio host Chris Douridas. Over the last year, Charles shared the stage as direct support for some of Canada's musical icons – including Sam Roberts Band, Jann Arden and Stars.

Join my conversation with Skyler Reed. A lady of sophistication and musicianship, Skyler Reed, was born a singer. She is a classically trained R&B/Soul artist based in ATL. Her heart desires to perform, and the stage has become her home. Since her time in ATL she has established her music lessons business, Skyler's Music Studio, LLC, and has performed frequently around the city. She hopes to inspire and uplift through the words and melodies of her songs. Skyler grew up surrounded by music. During early childhood, her mother, who had the gift of singing, made music an integral part of her life. She introduced her to the greats; such as Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, and Lauren Hill. Skyler loved the music of Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child, and Brandy. Although, Skyler’s mother is no longer here, she definitely was her inspiration to pursue music. Songwriting has always been a form of therapy and self-expression, since Skyler was twelve. She was a big dreamer and a curious girl with an immense aspiration of sharing art. She studied vocal performance at Virginia State University and received a Bachelor of Music Degree. She took heart in the value of being classically trained, while still staying true to her own music. Shortly after graduating, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career, and made great strides. There, she performed in several operas and established herself as an artist. Skyler Reed is now based in Atlanta, and is constantly working on music. In the past, she has released three studio projects: “I Keep Dreamin…,” “Movement of a Sunflower," and "Descended Crowns." Her next project, "Are We There Yet," will be released April 16th, 2021.

Episode # 55 - Getting to Know Hawaiian Born Singer/Songwriter Sierra Blax

Join my conversation with Sierra Blax. Born and raised on the island of Kaua'i, Sierra is an artist that brings a fresh taste of soul, chill-pop & R&B to her music. Being raised on the islands, you'll find from time to time, Sierra uses her landscape of palm trees and ocean breezes as inspiration for her lyrics and melodies that gives the ear this elated feeling. It is no surprise that she grew up honing her craft through weekly singing lessons with local voice teacher, Debbi Scarpell. It was then when she was introduced to Motown artists and soul music that helped shape her sound she has today. After high school, she attended the music program at the University of Hawaii and studied vocal performance. She described her experience in music school as difficult and uneasy. "I had to learn how to sing a completely different way than how I was taught - there were moments I really wanted to give up." Fortunately, for Blax she didn't.

During these times, Sierra grew inspiration to write songs about the wild experiences she would encounter in her early 20's. "I wanted to write songs that were unapologetic, fun and audacious; we are so used to female singers sugar coating things, and I wanted to represent that female empowerment in my songwriting." Blax wants to show people that it's ok to make mistakes, embrace it and turn it into a comedy and art.

Today she is still inspired by the classics that shaped her, but she is also embracing what the new age R&B sound is molding into today. "Although I am inspired by power-house singers like Jazmine Sullivan and Amy Winehouse, I am really loving how singers today are using the airy and subtle sides of their voices. This new style has definitely ignited a change for me and my sound. It forced me to use my soft/ falsetto voice more often and helped me discover new melodies that are digestible to the listener." You can find artists such as Snoh Alegra, Jungle, H.E.R., Nao, and Tame Impala on her Spotify playlist.

Currently residing in Los Angeles, she is spending a lot of time in the studio writing and creating original music. Her newest single, "INYIM" (It's not you it's me) is a playful yet sassy tune that tells a story of all the dysfunctions that Blax portrays. If you're into astrology, it's basically based on the life of a scorpio and all its glory. The production is hands down a vibe with a funky bassline and grove.

Check out my conversation with Itoya. She was born and raised in Thessaloniki, Greece by Nigerian parents. Her powerful stage presence and soulful voice aligned with her captivating dance moves made the audience to connect with her at every concert. Love Itoya started writing and composing her songs at the age of 13 from there she began to explore her talent. She has worked with local artists such as Dispero, Dwdekato Pithiko and was a frontwoman for 3 years in the band Souled Out.

In 2015 she took part in The Voice Of Greece and in the same year she released her first single ''What you Got baby ft. L.I''. Episode #53 - Getting to Know R&B Group RUFF ENDZ

Check out my interview with chart-topping R&B duo RUFF ENDZ. They are back with a new album called 'Rebirth'. The song world premiered exclusively on RollingOut.com. The catchy mid-tempo song was written and produced by David Chance and co-written by Dante Jordan. "The inspiration behind "Be The One" is based on our own experiences and the experiences of most people I know," mentions David. "When a man has finally found the one lady that he feels is his soulmate or his ride or die, he is willing to put it all on the line for her and will put her worries to rest." "We hope to help change the narrative with this song in our community to show that men need love and want to be in love too," shares Dante.

Ruff Endz, the hip-hop soul duo of David "Davinch" Chance and Dante "Chi" Jordan, formed in Baltimore in the mid-'90s. Named after the "Ruff" parts of the city, the group came up in West Baltimore originally as part of a quartet. Soon after they broke off on their own as a duo ,and in 1999 they signed to Epic Records. In that same year Ruff Endz was featured on Martin Lawrence's "Blue Streak" with a song entitled "Please dont forget about me" produced by Super Star producer Nokio from the platinum group "Dru Hill". They followed up in 2000 with their first album entitled "Love Crimes". Their first single, "No More", reached #1 on the R&B/Hip Hop charts and peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2002, the duo released their second album, Someone To Love You, which peaked in the top 10 on the R&B charts and top 50 on Billboard.

The album's first single, "Someone To Love You", went on to spend 11 weeks at #1 on the AC charts and with their second single, "Cash, Money, Cars, Clothes" rounding out the top 50 on Billboard. They have shared the stage with music industry icons such as Mary J. Blige, R. Kelly, and Christina Aguilera while also featured on CNN, MTV, BET, Top of the Pops (UK), and Much Music (Canada) just to name a few. Their music has been showcased on several feature films including Chris Rock's "Down to Earth" , Eddie Murphy's "I Spy", and Ice Cube's "Barber Shop" just to name a few.

Their success has grown and crossed US borders to headline their own tours throughout Europe and Japan building a major international fan base. After splitting in 2004 ,the group decided to join forces once again after their hometown of Baltimore erupted into an Historical uprising that left their city in flames. With the city in unrest, they were compelled to record their first song entitled "Time 4 Change" a song that speaks out against injustice for their city and all cities alike. "Time 4 Change" is also the groups tribute to Martin Luther King. Ruff Endz will also be featured on the new Fox TV show called "Shots Fired" with a song called "Speak to My Heart"(episode 7) which premiered March 22, 2018.

Check out my conversation with singer/songwriter/dejay Erri. On 3rd February I released my new single “Walking in My Mind” featuring Carolina, a famous songwriter in my hometown Brescia (Italy).

Walking in My Mind is the title of my second single, self-produced , which includes the participation of Carolina as a featuring voice. The track describes a walk, which is taking place in the crossroads of our mind. Everyday we walk along the roads of our remembrances it is up to us to decide which way we shall follow and how much difficult the trip will be like. We can define it as a walk with ourselves and forourselves.

The musical carpet of the song is really reduced bone-like, alas great value will be granted to its voice and distortions. The choice not to insert the bass in the song is a strong desire from me, in order to give maximum value the voice’s peculiarity. In the outdo the track changes dramatically thank to the inclusion of hi-hats and synth bass, a clear sign that we chosen a certain path with the most of believe less.

I like walking very much, most of all with music in the ears. I relax and this enable me to dream. This single anticipate the launch of the EP “Walking Project” whose release date is foreseen for 2021.

Getting to Know New York Based Singer/Songwriter SHOLA

Jamaican American Artist who NBC News describes “traverses cultures with a special kind of versatility that comes from being a citizen of the world.” Her debut album Lost Myself (Hot Casa Records, 2016) a collaboration with French Jazz pianist, Florian Pellissier is a musical voyage that blends New York’s hard-bop aesthetics and reggae- inspired elements with modern jazz for a fresh spin on classics and original compositions. Since then, Shola has performed to sold-out crowds at one of Paris’ most celebrated jazz clubs, Duc des Lombards, and her single,“Evolution” has been played on international airwaves, most notably by Gilles Peterson (BBC Music Radio, London), and was hand picked by American Director Spike Lee to be featured in his Netflix series, She’s Gotta Have It, Season 1.

Born in Oakland, California to a family of artists and intellectuals, Shola Adisa-Farrar began singing at the age of eight and garnered attention for her distinctly expressive voice. The daughter of a professor and writer, Shola’s poetic lyrics reflect a childhood that nurtured her creativity and social awareness. At age 17, Shola moved to New York City where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music while educating herself on the behind-the-scenes business of the music industry, through internships and eventually working at some of music’s biggest companies. In 2011, Shola left New York and moved to Paris where she embarked on a singing career, which eventually opened the doors for her to perform internationally.

Shola has headlined concerts in fifteen countries in Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America. In 2021 Shola is slated to release new music every month which is available on all streaming platforms.

Episode # 50 - Getting to Know Los Angeles Based Singer/Songwriter Darrin Banks

Join my conversation with Darrin Banks. Like many contemporary R&B artist, he started singing in his church choir at the age of 7. It was there he realized the overwhelming power of music and its capacity to emotionally affect the audience and performer alike. Banks continued singing throughout grade school and began taking private singing and piano lessons to hone his craft. During those formative years, he was fortunate to work professionally (acting, singing and dancing) in musicals and concerts at the Raleigh Memorial Theater (regional) and in various cabarets in the southeast as a soloist. He was selected for the State (4 times), Regional (4 times) and National (1 time) Honors Choruses of North Carolina.

Singing choral music helped Banks fall in love with vocal harmonizing—a technique he prominently features in his current music, which allows him to simulate a multi-part choir across a wide octave-range with his own voice. Banks holds degrees from North Carolina School of the Arts, Marymount Manhattan College (BA) and recently completed the Independent Artists program at The Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. With a strong appreciation for jazz, funk and classic R&B, his music sits most comfortably in the contemporary R&B and electro-soul genres. Drawing inspiration from a wide spectrum of musical genres that include rock and folk, Banks’ music colors outside the lines of genre-boxes and pushing the boundaries of conventionality. Poetry that came out of the Harlem Renaissance written by Langston Hughes and the literary works of James Baldwin have greatly influenced Banks’ exploration of sexuality and cultural identity politics found in his music. A lover of contemporary dance, he credits studying it as being an invaluable teacher for understanding phraseology and movement in music. He names Erykah Badu and Joni Mitchell as his two biggest musical influences and ultimately approaches making music as a storyteller. Banks is due to release an EP in late 2021. Thematically, this new work will explore the universal challenges of the human condition, which include grappling with perfectionism, self-doubt, and persevering in the face of adversity. As an openly gay artist, Banks’ new music not only makes no apologies for this fact, but celebrates it. He hopes this will encourage others to live out loudly and proudly and further eradicate the shaming stigma that surrounds accepting different sexual orientations in our society. Whether he’s writing a ballad or an upbeat-dance track, you can count on Banks’ music being lyrically message-driven with catchy melodies that inspire movement.

Join my conversation with Somalia. She's an R&B singer and songwriter based in Atlanta, Georgia. Originally from Jersey City, New Jersey but raised in Lithonia, Georgia, she grew up listening to a wide range of artists. She ultimately fell in love with the harmonious melodies of R&B music.

Singing since the age of 10, Somalia truly comes alive on stage. Voted “Most likely to be famous” in her senior class, she actively trained at being a better performer by acting in plays, musicals, joining dance teams, and doing talent shows every year at her school. Determined to focus on her passion for music, she went on to study music and Comparative Women Studies at Spelman College. Upon graduating from college, she packed out her self-produced debut concert titled “The Sweet Freedom Concert.”

Since then, she’s graced the stages of festivals, theaters, and auditoriums performing for more than 3,000 people. Her music blends R&B, Neo Soul, Jazz, and Hip-hop. Inspired by artists like Brandy, Tweet, Missy Elliott, and Jill Scott, Somalia makes music to show that R&B isn’t dead. With a true respect and love for live music. Somalia is making a name for herself as she has performed at over 180 shows across the world and for stars such as Kelly Price and KeKe Wyatt.

Somalia uses her melodic vocal range and inspiring lyrics to captivate audiences of all ages. Some of her most recent performances include the Atlanta Beltline Art on the Beltline Exhibition, National Black Arts Wine Down Wednesday, and Taste of Soul Atlanta. Most notably, Somalia has used her talent for philanthropic endeavors with shows to raise funds for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) National Day of Hope and Peaceful performances for the Pandemic to honor frontline workers.

Episode #44 - Getting to Know New York Based Singer/Songwriter JOSH X

Join my conversation with JOSH X. The singer/songwriter has worked with Cardi B, Rick Ross among others. He attended the prestigious summer program at The Juilliard School. We discuss his upbringing, his latest singles "I Miss You" and "Creole Love Part 2", meeting his idols Brian McKnight and Stevie Wonder, and his upcoming podcast and cooking show in 2021. Raised in Queens, the singer/songwriter/producer (born Josh Xantus) initially honed his musical chops as a classical pianist at the age of 6. “My mom being originally from Haiti, the thing she loved the most was classical music. My first influences were Mozart, Chopin, Bach, Beethoven,” he says. Although he’s trained in the Western canon, when he got around to listening to r&b, he fell in love with Brian McKnight. “He was a piano player and a singer. I wanted to learn his songs so I could do it too.”

Josh studied at the prestigious summer program at The Juilliard School and graduated from Five Towns College. Realizing that classical music just wasn’t in his heart, nor getting him attention from the ladies, he decided to pivot. “By college, I knew I wanted to be a R&B singer,” he laughs.

In college, the wunderkind began to sneak away to late-night studio sessions, eventually meeting rapper Jadakiss. It just felt right. “I knew this is what I was supposed to do. I started doing a lot of open mics and putting my face out there. The dots started connecting.” By 2008, he was making the rounds as an independent artist (under the moniker Josh Xantus) and released “All For Love” (featuring Jadakiss). His network grew, working with notables like Swizz Beatz (co-writing “Ready to Go” for FOX’s hit show Empire), Jerry “Wonder” Duplessis and Bryan “Birdman” Williams from Cash Money Records. 2009’s “First Time” even caught the ear of Stevie Wonder and led to a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with the legend. “I’ll never forget that song. He took interest in me. That song opened up a lot of doors,” says Josh.

One of those doors was linking with Shaft of The KSR Group, a NYC-based record label that was working with then-fledgling artist Cardi B. Josh was tasked with writing and producing for Cardi beginning in 2015. “I saw the vision. I was the first person to produce Cardi. The two collaborated on her single “Selfish” as well as his “Heaven On My Mind” in 2016. After working tirelessly behind-the-scenes for three years to help shape Cardi’s astronomical rise, Josh X is ready to emerge as a star in his own right.

Dropping “Xantus” from this stage name, Josh X is ready for this new chapter in his life. He signed with Epic Records in early 2018 and released his first single, “All On Me (featuring Rick Ross).” The song is an ode to triumph and perseverance; something Josh knows all about. “Man, so I’m in Miami. I’m cutting the record—not on pen—all in the booth. I heard the beat and the track has over 60 brass instruments alone!” he says. Immediately he was hooked. “It just came out of me.” The song serves as a fitting introduction for a career a long time in the making. “At that moment, I wanted to show everyone who has been patient waiting for me the man that I’m going to be. This moment is how we’re going to celebrate life. It’s about elevation. It’s about achieving the goals you set for yourself.”

In 2019, Josh released his “Piano Confessions” EP to rave reviews followed by the success of his latest single, “I Miss You”. The single topped the Billboard R&B UAC Charts at #20. All in preparation to the upcoming release of “The X Project“. “A blend of that new age R&B with bits of trap-vibes sprinkled throughout, while giving my fans the traditional Josh X sound with records as “One Last Time”. Musically and symbolically, it’s a full-circle for Josh. “I’ve been patient. It’s my time to shine.”

Simpson enlisted to join forces with internationally acclaimed jazz artist Julie Dexter on her UK/European tour, on in between a host of festival gigs alongside the likes of Wretch 32, Corrine Bailey Rae, The Feeling, Jaguar Skills, Beverly Knight, Jamie Cullum, Jessie J, Boy George and Tom O’Dell. Nate performed and made it to the final six boys on ITV’s X Factor 2016 and followed that by performing on

BBC’s Eurovision You decide in 2017. Between that time Nate began his journey back in the studio working alongside incredible producers, writers and musicians from U.K and the U.S including recording at The Abbey Road Studios. From doing shows in America, Caymen Islands and Mexico in the Summer 2017 once Nate returned to the UK he took to the stage as Nate King Cole in The Crooners Tour. Early 2018 saw Nate join the new cast of the hit West End Musical understudying the roles of Berry Gordy, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. In the spring of 2019 Nate takes on the role of Simba in The Lion King in Paris.

Check out my conversation with Michael Keith of R&B Group 112. The makers of hit songs like Cupid, Anywhere, Peaches and Cream, etc. They have a new EP called 112 Forever. We discuss their hiatus from releasing new music, Michael's recent battle with Covid-19 and their new EP ';112 Forever'. The group met while attending high school. The original group consisting of Daron Jones, Michael Keith, and Reginald Finley sang together while Jones and Keith were in middle school and Finley was in high school. Once all three were in high school, they met fellow schoolmate Aldon Lagon who was working at a local McDonald's in Atlanta and added him due to his deep bass voice. They met a high tenor vocalist Marvin Scandrick who sang with them in the school chorus. They recorded their debut album, 112. Released in 1996, the album eventually went double platinum. The album which was primarily produced by Tim & Bob entered into the top 5 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart, and went on to sell over two million copies. It featured the hit singles "Only You" and "Cupid", both of which peaked at #13 on the Hot 100 and #3 and #2 on the R&B charts respectively.[1] The group also contributed to records by artists including The Notorious B.I.G., Sean Combs (as Puff Daddy) and Mase. The group eventually went on the road as the opening act for the Isley Brothers at Ron Isley's request, the first of four separate tours that saw the group criss-crossing the U.S. with Keith Sweat, New Edition and finally Puff Daddy and the Family, over an 18-month period. In the years that followed, they toured with other performers such as Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson. They had great success in the late 1990s and early 2000s with hits such as "Only You", "Anywhere" and the Grammy Award-nominated single, "Peaches & Cream". The group most notably won a Grammy Award in 1997 for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group, for featuring in the song "I'll Be Missing You" with Sean Combs and Faith Evans.

Check out my conversation with Capella band Duwende'. Duwendé (Doo-WEN-day) is a six-person a cappella band best known for their fiercely original, bass-and-beatbox-driven funk/pop style of music.

In 2011, Duwendé released Remember: The Music of Michael Jackson, gaining them widespread acclaim, and leading them to performances for the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, the United Nations, Save The Children Benefit dinner hosted by Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee, the Bill Clinton Global Initiative, World AIDS Day Event in Amsterdam, and the Sundance Film Festival. With their successful YouTube channel (over 10 millions views), the band has a growing fan base that circles the globe, and their music and arrangements have been used on TV shows internationally.

Taylor Deneen Christmon is a singer, songwriter, vocal arranger, and producer studying Professional Music and contemporary Writing/Production at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Although born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, don’t let the stereotypes fool you. Taylor’s signature sound comes from a variety of genres including contemporary R&B, neo-soul, funk, gospel, and jazz. Some of her main musical influences are Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, Erykah Badu, Whitney Houston, and Jill Scott. At just twenty years old, Taylor has performed in front of and worked with the likes of Grammy award-winning Missy Elliot, Chaka Khan, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dreion, and Epic Records’ very own Sylvia Rhone just to name a few. Taylor has also toured internationally and worked under the direction of award-winning musical director Rob Lewis, prominently known for his work with Christina Aguilera, Toni Braxton, and Brian McKnight. Taylor began singing both classical and contemporary music at the age of six and started composing music and playing instruments shortly afterward, performing in honor bands, choirs, churches, and music festivals across the U.S. By sixteen, the National YoungArts winner had already caught the attention of artists like Angela Winbush, Andra Day, and Eric Whitacre. At the age of seventeen, Taylor was on her way to Boston to further her music education after accepting a full scholarship from Berklee College of Music.

Barry J Fontenot is a Louisiana-born, Chicago-based musician whose endearing sound is dipped in mixtures of heartfelt neo-soul and alternative folk melodies. Raised and inspired by deep soul & delta blues sonic sensibilities, you can hear his channeling of legendary musicians such as Otis Redding, Sam Cook and other timeless crooners. That being said, in his original compositions, Barry reveals the more eclectic influences that have followed him throughout his musical journey — he strives, in his own words, to “write em’ like Jazz songs, play em’ like Rock songs, and sing em’ like Soul songs". Her accomplishments to date include: performing at “The Future Series: A Conversation with President Barack Obama” in January 2020, Canadian Music Week in 2019, opening for Kehlani with the group Tr.pp in 2018, the 2017 Invictus Games, and having her first EP produced by Bob Ezrin (prod. Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Kiss). After working with Meagan, Ezrin stated: “Who knew that we could find this much soul at Humber College? Meagan has that natural swing and sway in both her writing and her singing that we usually associate with classic R&B from south of the border. It was truly refreshing – and a lot of fun – to arrive at Humber and be able to work with this talented young woman on her project. She’s the real deal!” Meagan’s sound is warm and organic. She is admired for her soft, sweet vocal tone and the way she naturally accompanies herself on the acoustic guitar. Upon listening to the artist, Canadian Beats Reviews said: “_Meagan’s music is the perfect example of what soft, soulful R&B can sound like, in a generation that needs a reminder”. Meagan released her debut single and music video for her song “Unfold Me” Fall of 2018 which gained 35,692 streams on Spotify. She then signed a distribution agreement with Full CC Music Group for her latest single “You’re The Reason” Spring 2019 which gained 107,677 steams on Spotify. She is currently working with Nova Music Group (management), and Mark Pelli (production) to release her first EP Fall of 2020. She will also be releasing three singles in order to continue to build her fan base, discography, sign her first publishing deal while creating a conversation world-wide of who she is as an R&B artist and what she has to offer.

Check out my conversation with singer/songwriter STEMIN. We discuss his upbringing, living in multiple countries, his sexuality and much more. Growing up in a family where music was always at the center in different forms, he was introduced to music through his parents who introduced him in studying piano and saxophone. The study of an instrument as well as being always surrounded by tapes, CDs, and the attendance of concerts and festivals increased his interest for music. STEMIN also spent a lot of time in church, singing in the choir and playing piano. This environment became the platform where his music interest for gospel, spirituals and black music was shaped.

As he states: While growing up, music represented a hiding place, the place in which I could take shelter and find answers to my emotional side. What captured my attention in music was the sensibility of it and the way music connected to me personally and intimately. I am a very sensible and emotional individual who has been exposed to some difficult experiences as a kid, therefore music represented for me that world to which I could run to, a hiding place; a world where emotions were associated to different colors; a world where acceptance and understanding was ruling; an imaginary world that helped me overcome these dark moments. I remember listening a lot to Donny Hathaway and finding a connection with him in the way his sensibility was being portrayed through the music.’

His stage name comes from the sir name ‘Ijish-akin’, He took the name ‘Akin’ and named myself ‘Akin Soul’. He has a soulful voice and reminds many of the soulful artists from years gone by. Two years ago, he created a 12 piece band with Drums, Keys, Bass, Guitar, 4 horns, 2 Bvs, and 2 strings to start performing his original material. The name was changed to ‘Akin Soul and The Soul Tribe’. They have played a plethora of venues such as Off The Cuff, All Points East Festival, Pop Brixton (BBC Music Day), Boxpark Croydon, Nambucca, The Garage, Union Chapel and a plethora of other venues. In a short period of time, they have grown as a band and now the plan is to take the band in the studio for the next project.

She is a devoted community activist and philanthropist sponsoring the “RadioScope” Celebrity Christmas Caravan (13years) annual “Summer Fresh” concert (10+ years) and the Anti Drug & Gang Rally for Los Angeles youth. She sits on the Board of Directors for the Watts/Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club and is currently devoting most of her time.

Nyah grew up on her grandparents’ farm in rural Oregon, with hazelnut trees, two cows, three chickens, two cats, a bunch of dogs, three horses and wide-open spaces. As a child, she wanted to be Selena Gomez or Taylor Swift, but discovering Billie Holiday and Alicia Keys in her early teens set her down a different path. That passion for music saw her developing her talents in the basement of the farm, teaching herself piano to be able to write songs and then Logic to transform those ideas into demos.

Her momentum soon snowballed. She was discovered by a manager, who whisked her across the Atlantic to work with Michael Kwesi Graves in Brixton and then Steve Chrisanthou in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire. For months she went back-and-forth between the two locations and relocated to the UK permanently when she was just 17 years old.

The result is her debut album ‘Honey Coloured’. It’s a scintillating blend of neo-soul, R&B and jazz in which Nyah performs with both youthful exuberance and a maturity beyond her tender age. As well as these two new singles, the album also highlights ‘My Sista Told Me’, a duet and co-write with Corinne Bailey Rae.

We pay homage to the greats and really see the trajectory of the genre from jazz to rnb to soul to funk to hip-hop. These are all of a single lineage and we hope to put some impression of our own on that lineage.This song came to me on a walk home from the park. I was thinking about an old girlfriend when I started getting struck by rain. I thought "let the rain fall down to set the scene for how I'm feeling right now." The tune came in one of those moments of letting myself be honest with my emotions. Gary is from a small, predominantly black rural community of Cherry Brook, Nova Scotia, Gary's involvement in the local church choir, and as part of the gospel group Light of Day, helped develop his soulful voice. Influenced by velvet-voiced crooners Al Green and Marvin Gaye and universally admired vocalists like Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson, Beals continues to create a sound all his own. Beal's 2005 self-titled debut album, and follow-up release "The Rebirth of...", earned him widespread praise, along with a Juno nomination for "Best R&B/Soul Recording," and East Coast Music Award, and nominations for an Urban Music Award and a Canadian Radio Music Award.

Despite his successes, Gary felt confined by traditional constructs of music written, recorded and performed for the masses, and wasn't able to identify with stereotypical love songs (boy likes girl; boy pursues girl, or vice versa). Feeling like he had hidden parts of himself for so long, Gary felt like he had lost sight of who he was. Periods of healing and self discovery eventually led to self-love, growth, power and happiness.

This background is heavily reflected in her Afro-Fusion, Afro-R&B, and hiplife inspired sound, her storytelling and her visuals. Agyakomah hopes to use her artistry to be a connector for people who are also simultaneously living the African experience, while also being a product of their immediate environment.

She is currently writing, recording and gearing up to travel back to Ghana to work on her debut project anticipated to drop in 2020.

With her stunning voice, beautiful looks and intense drive, COOPER PHILLIP captures the undivided attention of the eyes and ears around her. COOPER has always been a small town girl with dreams bigger than anyone could fully imagine. Born in Russia to a family of classical musicians, her early years were shaped being raised by her grandmother and aunt while her mother, a master violin player, toured around the world with various symphonies. This separation led COOPER to take comfort in music at an early age where she was mesmerized by the vocal stylings of Ella Fitzgerald. She learned her songs inside and out, noticing every nuance of Ella’s phrasing and jazz intonations. At 12 years old, COOPER permanently went to live with her mother. It was a major adjustment for both of them, but her mom soon realized her daughter had a gift and decided to help expand her musical talents. She enrolled COOPER in the prestigious Moscow State Classical Academy where she studied classical piano, theory, harp, jazz, blues, ballet and voice. And it was her vocal teacher at the academy who would prove to be the most pivotal in her development when she introduced her to the music of Mariah Carey. COOPER was obsessed.

She began singing every day, taking in the sounds of Barbra Streisand and studying a wide range of artist. Listening to her impressive pipes, her voice, which won singing competitions at 11 years old, easily elevates her above the rest of aspiring sirens. Ashley Scott is a talented singer from Philadelphia, PA. He began singing and discovering music at the tender age of 3 from listening and watching is aunt Helen Scott of The Three Degrees. A foundation of meaningful music was instilled from his parent’s record collection of artists like Earth, Wind, & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Chicago, The Delfonics, and naturally The Three Degrees. As a teenager, Ashley organized and performed in high school talent shows.

The biggest part of Ashley’s life and musical path came when he attended Howard University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music. At Howard University Ashley studied jazz voice under legendary jazz drummer and vocalist Grady Tate and the late Webster Lewis. Ashley also joined the Howard University Gospel Choir, which has produced R&B artist Angela Winbush, Tawatha Agee of Mtume, Pure Soul, and Gospel great Richard Smallwood. During his tenure with the Howard Gospel Choir, Ashley has performed behind Edwin and Walter Hawkins and Dorinda Clark of The Clark Sisters. The choir was also privileged to perform for President Bill Clinton at The Department of Agriculture for the unveiling portrait of former Secretary of Agriculture Mike Espy.

Professionally he has sung background for Lady Alma and Jean Carn as well as shared the stage with Vivian Green, Bilal, Marcus Johnson and Grammy Award Winners Take 6. In the studio he has recorded vocals for Chavous, Sarah’s Girl, Geneva Renee, Tye Tribbett, Jim Stephens, and Will Downing.

As she developed her voice and craft over the years, she has set her sights on releasing an album that reflects her musical style—smooth and pop jazz, with a mix of bossa nova and Latin jazz, plus R&B. Heidi is no stranger to performing in international venues. After completing her bachelor’s degree from Manila at age 22, she immediately chased her dream, embarking on solo gigs throughout Asia. This path saw her performing in musical venues in Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Guam. Life was not always smooth sailing in Heidi’s earlier years of entertaining. As a single mother, singing provided her with the strength she needed to carry on; oftentimes performing as much as 5x a week, to provide for her daughter and set an example on the values of hard work and perseverance. This experience also intensified her resolve as an artist. Today, she is a proud mother to that same daughter, Hannah, who, as a scholar, graduated Summa cum Laude from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School. What makes Heidi different? “My cultural heritage and my experience. Even when I sing these songs in my chosen genre, my FilAm roots are palpable in my delivery and the feel and tone of my songs. Cheryl started guitar lessons at the age of 11. She went onto learning music composition, orchestration & arranging at Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles, then onto earning a degree in commercial music at Los Angeles City College.While her then-brother-in-law, Hubert Laws was on tour with Latin Artist, Mongo Santamaria, she accidentally tuned her toy guitar to play a television theme song. When her sister heard it she suggested to their mother that Cheryl should take guitar lessons.

Cheryl talks about her start in the music business, her love of music, touring with a new group of ladies and her take on the music business today.

Born and raised in Durham, NC better known as the “Bull City”, LVitto always had a passion for art and music. Artists like LL Cool J, Rakim, Biggie Smalls, Jay-Z, and others were his inspiration to make music. He started making mixtapes in high school and became known for his witty wordplay and punchlines. Studying moguls like P. Diddy, Russell Simmons, and Jay-Z, LVitto created his own entertainment company in 2015 called Family Bizness LLC.

His debut album,‘BLACK FRAME’, became critically acclaimed, attracting fans with a mixture of hard-hitting lyrics and jazzy tunes that embodied the ‘Golden Era’ of hip-hop. In June 2016, it reach over to South America and Africa which gave the project a shot at going international.

Mally Evans is a soul R&B singer born a raised in Durham, NC. Mally Evans discovered the love for music at a young age singing in a choir. It wasn’t until grade school when he started taking his gift serious and started writing/recording and performing. His music is inspired by the 90’s R&B era. “I love the feel R&B had when it was more authentic and sincere which is where I’m taking it back to. Saying certain things without really saying it and making a woman feel special about herself ” He says. He has a unique style that’s sets him in his on lane as well. The “Young Heart Throb” has a way of making the ladies melt once he sings in his smooth but yet powerful voice , with his clever, and lyrical wordplay delivery. His music is timeless mixing the old school and new school with exalted passion.
