The BA in Criminal Justice Studies is degree course designed to equip the student with general knowledge and transferable skills while focusing on the broad theme of criminal justice. It is a multidisciplinary course. In this episode of CourseCast, the guests were: Donal Keating, Programme Lead; graduate Andy Ryan (who is now working in probation services) and fourth year student Liam Flanagan, who is hoping to join An Garda Siochána. They gave an overview of the modules on the course, the placement opportunities, and the wide (and sometimes unexpected) careers in which graduates might find themselves. They also discussed how Criminal Justice Studies can be a foundation for many further studies.

This episode focuses on the BSc (Hons) in General Nursing. The programme is delivered in a purpose-built, world-class learning environment and students undertake clinical practice in many hospitals throughout the south east region.

Podcast guests on this episode were Dr Teresa Dowling, course lecturer; Keith Kelly, 3rd year student on the programme; and Nessa Doyle, current postgraduate student and General Nurse/Clinical Nurse Manager in Endoscopy. They outlined the course content, practical skills acquired in SETU's state-of-the-art laboratories, as well as looking at the wide- ranging placement opportunities available throughout the four years of the degree. The panel also highlights the vast career opportunities for nurses, not just in Ireland but all over the world.

Here, we hear about the BA Hons in Public Relations and Media, a course which provides graduates with the knowledge and skills to step into an exciting communications career. The panel - comprising Programme Director Gregg Murphy; Senior Lecturer Pauline Flanagan; Fourth Year student Louise Dunne, and graduate Orna Whyte - outline the course structure, the modules covered, the differences (and similarities) between PR and media, and how important it is to understand both to have a career in either. They also look at the varied job opportunities available to graduates, and how students can apply their own passions to hone a speciality for themselves.

Computing in Interactive Digital Art and Design

The BSc (Hons) in Computing in Interactive Art and Design (referred to as IDAD) gives graduates the know-how for success in digital artistry and application development. They will learn concept design, digital artwork production and graphics coding.

On this episode we hear from Philip Bourke, Programme Lead; Colm O'Neill, course lecturer and Julianna Rohan, a student who has just finished the course and is about to embark on a Masters. They give an overview of what the course is about, the modules covered, and the types of careers in which graduates might find themselves. Here, we focus on the BA (Hons) in Social Science, a multi-disciplinary three-year course. This wide-ranging programme offers students the opportunity to understand and critically analyse contemporary Irish society and Ireland’s place in an increasingly globalised world.

Programme lead Dr John McNamara outlines what Social Science is all about; drilling down into the various modules, and giving a flavour of the many and varied careers, and further studies options, available to graduates.

First year Social Science student Niamh Purcell and recent graduate Imelda Morrissey spoke about the course itself, highlighting how it helps students engage in critical thinking (crucial in today's world). They also talk about how the programme fosters a sense of social justice in students and helps them view society from the perspectives of all social groups.

Here, we hear all about the BA Hons in Design (Visual Communications) at SETU. There are options to study this programme at both the Waterford and Wexford campuses. On this episode, Mary O'Neill is joined by course lecturer at the Waterford campus Dr Fiona Dowling, recent graduate Laura Dempsey (who designed the cover for this podcast series); and current fourth year students in Waterford Denis Kononov and Kristian Ryan. The topics covered included what Design / Visual Communication is all about, the type of roles graduates find themselves in, and some surprising elements of both the programme and how it's applied to working life. The guests highlighted how the programme at SETU does not require a portfolio, which means students learn from scratch. They also discussed the sometimes contentious topic of AI in Design, outlining why it can never replace humans.

Mary was joined in studio by Dr Claire Lennon, Head of the Department of Pharmacy; Dearbhla Walsh, Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice at the Department; and by Daragh Connolly who owns Connolly's Pharmacy in Dungarvan, County Waterford. Daragh is also Vice President of the International Pharmaceutical Federation, based in The Hague and representing 4.5million pharmacists and and 160 member organisations.
