On January 6, 2026, detectives caught Jonathan Gerlach, 34, of Ephrata, Pennsylvania, leaving Mount Moriah Cemetery near Philadelphia with a burlap bag containing the mummified remains of two small children and three skulls. A search of his home revealed over 100 human skulls, mummified hands and feet, decomposing torsos—some hanging from the ceiling—and jewellery from graves. His storage unit contained eight more complete corpses. Between November 2025 and January 2026, Gerlach had systematically broken into 26 mausoleums and underground vaults, rappelling down ropes, smashing marble floors, stealing skeletal remains dating from 200 years old to months-old infants. On Instagram as "deadshitdaddy," he posted 100+ images of human skulls for sale. A Facebook group member thanked him for a bag made of human skin. Gerlach faces 574 charges and is held on $1 million bail. The investigation continues: Were the remains shipped across state lines? Who were the buyers? And can the dead finally be returned to rest in peace?

On April 10, 2001, an explosion destroyed the Fisher family home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Inside, firefighters found Mary Fisher, 38, shot in the back of the head with her throat slit, and her two children—Brittney, 12, and Bobby, 10—with their throats slit in their beds. The gas line had been deliberately severed, accelerant poured in the bedrooms, a candle used as a delayed fuse. Missing: Robert William Fisher, 40, the family's husband and father. Ten days later, his Toyota 4Runner was found in Tonto National Forest with the family dog Blue alive underneath—suggesting Fisher got into another vehicle. New evidence from a 2024 podcast reveals the 4Runner was seen at the house at 3:30 AM and 5:30 AM, meaning Fisher only had a 3-hour head start, not the 10-12 hours previously believed. Fisher was a controlling Navy veteran who'd had an affair, contemplated suicide after Mary kicked him out, and told his pastor weeks before the murders that Mary was planning to divorce him. He was added to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted in 2002, removed in 2021, but remains a wanted fugitive with a $100,000 reward. If alive, he'd be 63. The question: Did he die in the wilderness by suicide, or is he living under a new identity?

The Man Who Broke Into Jail

In December 2019, security footage at Nashville's new Downtown Detention Center showed the same man entering the building again and again—sometimes dressed as a supervisor with a clipboard, other times as a labourer hauling buckets. Cameras caught him drilling into walls, grinding, painting. He occasionally covered cameras, but mostly let himself be recorded.

When two master keys went missing, investigators pulled thousands of hours of surveillance. The man had been coming since August. At least ten separate visits. Moving methodically through different sections of the facility.

On 4 January 2020, police arrested 50-year-old Alexander Friedmann outside the building. In his pocket was a hand-drawn schematic of the detention centre. He tried to eat it.

When investigators searched the walls, they found three loaded handguns, ammunition, handcuff keys, razor blades, and hacksaw blades—all easily accessible to inmates once the facility opened. At Friedmann's home, they found 23 more guns, body armour, grenade pouches, and a concrete bunker with grout work matching the jail.

But here's what made it disturbing: Alex Friedmann wasn't a criminal mastermind. He was one of Tennessee's most prominent prison reform advocates. He'd testified before Congress. Worked for Bernie Sanders' campaign. Spent 20 years fighting for inmates' rights—and worked closely with the very sheriff whose jail he'd just sabotaged.

Was this trauma or terrorism? The answer may never be known.

Kouri Richins, a 35-year-old Utah mother and real estate investor, was convicted on 16 March 2026 of murdering her husband Eric Richins (39) on 4 March 2022 by poisoning him with five times the lethal dose of fentanyl in a Moscow Mule cocktail. Born to engineer parents (father imprisoned for drunk driving when she was 6, mother a compulsive gambler), Kouri became obsessed with wealth and success. Prosecutors proved she was $7.5 million in debt with a collapsing house-flipping business, had affair with Robert Josh Grossman, took out $2.2 million in forged life insurance policies, purchased fentanyl through housekeeper Carmen Lauber, first attempted to poison Eric on Valentine's Day 2022 (failed), then succeeded three weeks later. Closed on $2 million mansion day after his death. One year later published children's grief book Are You With Me? and promoted it on TV before arrest May 2023. Trial lasted three weeks, defence called no witnesses, Kouri didn't testify, jury deliberated three hours. Guilty all counts. Sentencing 13 May 2026 (Eric's birthday): 25 years to life. Power Rangers Actor Sentenced to Death | Skylar Deleon Yacht Murders

In November 2004, Skylar Deleon—a former Mighty Morphin Power Rangers child actor—murdered Tom Hawks (57) and Jackie Hawks (47) by tying them to their yacht's anchor and throwing them overboard alive off Newport Beach, California. The couple had advertised their 55-foot yacht "Well Deserved" for sale to move closer to their newborn grandson in Arizona. Deleon posed as a buyer, brought his pregnant wife and baby to gain their trust, then overpowered them during a test cruise with accomplices John Kennedy and Alonso Machain. Forced to sign ownership documents at gunpoint, the couple was duct-taped, handcuffed to a 66-pound anchor, and dragged 3,500 feet to the ocean floor whilst still alive. Their bodies were never recovered. Deleon was also convicted of murdering Jon Jarvi in 2003 after conning him out of $50,000. Sentenced to death April 2009. Woman Forgives Mother's Killer, Gives Him a Job, Then He Murders Her Too | Snowden House

In 1996, 16-year-old Travis Lewis shot Sally Snowden McKay and her nephew Lee Baker to death during a burglary at their Arkansas estate, then set the house on fire. Sally's daughter Martha - a devout Buddhist - chose forgiveness. She visited Travis in prison for 23 years, advocated for his parole, and when he was released in 2018, gave him a job and home at the historic Snowden House bed-and-breakfast on the same property where he'd murdered her mother.

In March 2020, Martha fired Travis for stealing $10,000. Days later, he broke into Snowden House and stabbed and bludgeoned 63-year-old Martha to death at the top of the marble staircase. When police arrived, Travis jumped from an upstairs window, his getaway car got stuck in the yard, and he drowned fleeing into Horseshoe Lake. The same man murdered mother and daughter 23 years apart on the same family estate - betraying the ultimate act of forgiveness.

Hollywood Therapist Murdered by Stalker Ex on Valentine's Day | Dr Amie Harwick Case

On Valentine's Day 2020, Hollywood sex therapist Dr Amie Harwick spent the evening at a burlesque show with friends, texting her ex-fiancé Drew Carey about reconnecting. Her ex-boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse broke into her Hollywood Hills home at 9 PM and waited four hours for her to return. When 38-year-old Amie arrived home after 1 AM, Gareth attacked her in her third-floor bedroom. Roommate Michael Herman heard bloodcurdling screams and choking from downstairs. Gareth strangled Amie, beat her as she fought back with defensive wounds on her hands, then threw her off her balcony. She died from blunt-force trauma and strangulation. Amie had restraining orders against Gareth in 2011 and 2012 for choking, suffocating, punching her, and pushing her from a moving car.

One month before her murder, they encountered each other at a red carpet event where he screamed "You ruined my life!" Amie wrote "If something happens to me, he did it." Gareth Pursehouse convicted of first-degree murder, sentenced to life without parole.

The Green River Killer: How Gary Ridgway Murdered 49 Women and Evaded Police for 20 Years

In the summer of 1982, bodies began appearing along Washington's Green River. Young women—many of them sex workers, many of them runaways—were being strangled and dumped in remote wooded areas around Seattle. By 1984, the death toll had reached over forty.

The Green River Task Force assembled. The FBI sent profilers. Even imprisoned serial killer Ted Bundy was consulted for insights. But year after year, the killer remained free.

Gary Ridgway, a truck painter from Auburn, was questioned in 1987. He gave police a DNA sample. The technology of the time couldn't match it to the crimes. He was released.

For fourteen more years, the case went cold.

Then, in 2001, DNA technology advanced. The 1987 sample was retested. It matched four victims.

Gary Ridgway was arrested on November 30th, 2001. In 2003, he confessed to forty-eight murders. Later, forty-nine. He claimed the real number was closer to eighty.

On July 18, 2008, 40‑year‑old elementary school teacher and Navy reservist Genai Coleman was tragically shot and killed in her own car in a Gwinnett County, Georgia mall parking lot—an unthinkable crime of opportunity that shocked her community. A cigarette butt retrieved from her stolen Dodge Stratus matched DNA in the national database, pointing investigators to Donald Eugene Smith, a convicted felon.

When Donald steadfastly denied involvement—claiming police should be targeting his identical twin, Ronald—the case took a dramatic turn. Unlike DNA, fingerprints don’t duplicate, and Ronald’s prints were found on the car, alongside cell‑tower records placing his phone near Genai’s stolen vehicle.

She got into Brammer’s Ford F-150, and traffic cameras captured the vehicle again the following morning. Inside, her body was awkwardly slumped in the passenger seat.

She was still wearing the same clothes from the parking lot footage, except for one missing shoe. Her cellphone and purse were also gone.

Investigators later discovered that her personal safe—containing approximately $1,200—was missing as well.

No one admits to a crime they didn't do - Angie Dodge

On June 13, 1996, 18-year-old Angie Dodge was found murdered in her Idaho Falls apartment, having been raped and brutally killed.

Christopher Tapp was arrested and convicted for the crime in 1998, based on a confession that many believe was coerced.

Despite Tapp's conviction, DNA evidence from the crime scene did not match him, raising doubts about his guilt.

However it would be the determination and strength of Angie's mother which would uncover the real truth.

A moment of madness? - Clara Harris

On July 24, 2002, Clara Harris confronted her husband David in a hotel parking lot over an extramarital affair, then struck and ran over him with her Mercedes sedan, killing him in an act of mariticide.

That evening, Clara went to the Hilton Hotel in Nassau Bay, to confront her husband and reportedly attacked his mistress in the lobby.

Hotel employees escorted Clara to her car. When David and his mistress came out of the hotel, Clara struck down her husband in the parking lot as her teenaged stepdaughter Lindsey sat in the passenger seat.

As she slept - Jill Cahill

Jill Cahill was lying in a hospital bed having spent 6 months recovering from a savage attack, an attack that shattered her skull and put her in a coma. Her attacker was her Husband Jeff.

Jeff and Jill Cahill from the outside seemed to have a happy and fulfilled marriage. A home with the white picket fence, two beautiful kids and animals to match but all was far from perfect. The couple had been dealing with some serious issues within their marriage and would eventually separate.

On April 21, 1996 Jeff and Jill had a terrible argument while their kids slept and the argument soon turned violent when Jeff viciously attacked her with a baseball bat putting Jill in the hospital.

On October 27th of that same year, staffers at the University Hospital in Syracuse New York, noticed a strange man at the hospital dressed in a maintenance uniform wearing a wig and glasses.

When Jill's nurse went to check on her, she found her gasping for air, the following morning Jill was dead.

Lord and Lady Lucan

The bystander effect - Catherine Susan Genovese

In 1964 Catherine Genovese was attacked 100 yards from her home by a knife wielding man, he stabbed her to death and then ejaculated on her body.

Reports would say that 38 people witnessed the attack, one man even shouted at Winston Moseley to 'leave that girl alone'. Yet no-one called the police or went to help her.

The shock from the crime would cause changes to be made to the NYPD's 911 service as well as have psychologists studying what is now known as the 'Bystander Effect'.

A murder plot at 4000ft - Emile Cilliers

It's April 2015 at four o'clock in the afternoon at the Nether Avon airfield Wiltshire south west England. A group of Skydiving enthusiasts are taking off on their accent to 4000ft for a jump. among them was 41 year old Victoria Cilliers a veteran skydiver with thousands of jumps to her name.

Today however would be her first jump in over a year, she had not long given birth to her second child. Skydiving for Victoria was not just a hobby, in fact she had said that it was her life prior to marriage and having children. On this day her husband Emile, who was also an avid skydiver had said he would stay on the ground to look after their two children so she could enjoy her birthday present.

Victoria was excited for the jump, fist bumping with the others inside the small plane. Another skydiver James Rankin was also jumping that day and remembers telling Victoria he was feeling a little apprehensive about such a low jump, she reassured him he would be fine.

What she couldn't have known was that her own life was about to be changed forever.

Coincidental murders? - Mary Morris

48 year old Mary Lou Morris was a loan officer at a Bank in Houston, Texas. She was happily married to her husband Jay and reportedly loved by many others.

On the morning of October 12, 2000, Mary left for work. Throughout the day her husband Jay tried to call her, but she never picked up or called him back. At around 5 PM, he decided to call her supervisor who tells him she hadn’t come in to work that morning and wasn’t picking up their calls either. Concerned of course for his wife he reports her missing.

Little did he know that his life and the life of another family was about to be truly turned upside down by an incredibly sad a mysterious double homicide.

The bodies in the barn - Hinterkaifeck murders

The Hinterkaifeck murders occurred on the evening of 31 March 1922, when six inhabitants of a small Bavarian farmstead, located approximately 70 kilometres north of Munich, Germany, were murdered by an unknown assailant. The six victims were Andreas Gruber his wife Cäzilia Gruber, their daughter Viktoria Gabriel, Viktoria's children, Cäzilia, Josef and the maid, Maria Baumgartner.

They were all found bludgeoned with a mattock. The perpetrator or perpetrators lived with the six victims for three days after they had killed them. During this time, they would eat the food in the house, feed the animals on the property, and start fires in the home's fireplace. The murders are considered one of the most gruesome and puzzling unsolved crimes in German history.

The Lake Bodom murders

The Lake Bodom murders is one of the most infamous unsolved homicide cases in Finnish criminal history.

On 5 June 1960, at Lake Bodom in Espoo, Uusimaa, Maila Björklund and Anja Mäki (both 15) and Seppo Boisman (18) were killed by stabbing and blunt-force trauma to their heads while sleeping inside a tent.

The fourth, Nils Gustafsson, then aged 18, was found outside the tent with broken facial bones and stab wounds. Despite extensive investigations, the perpetrator was never identified and various theories on the killer's identity have been presented over the years.

A suspect would be arrested however in 2004 and be tired for the killings.

The most famous missing person on YouTube - Lars Mittank

Lars Joachim Mittank is a German man who disappeared on 8 July 2014, near Varna Airport in Varna, Bulgaria. Mittank was vacationing at the Golden Sands resort, where he was supposedly involved in a fight, and was subsequently unable to fly home with his friends for health reasons.

Mittank was documented acting strangely while alone in Bulgaria. He called home to his mother claiming that people were trying to kill him. On the day when he was supposed to fly home, Mittank went to the Varna Airport to consult with a doctor.

He was later seen on airport security footage running out of the airport and towards an adjacent forest. He has never been seen since. The case has generated intense interest, and the frequency with which people viewed the footage of him fleeing the airport has led to him being named, the most famous missing person on YouTube.

A Hollywood mystery - Bob Crane

In June 1978, Bob Crane, the star of the sixties sitcom Hogan's Heroes but now reduced to playing on the dinner-theater circuit, was found bludgeoned to death in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he was appearing in a run of Beginner's Luck.

Bob was found by a co-star who had reportedly organised a lunch date with him, after discovering his lifeless body she runs out of the apartment for for help and so began a thirty year search for answers.

The Push - Fawziyah Javed

The story of Fawziyah Javed is a devastating one, a bright and fun loving soon to be mother who's life would be tragically cut short.

During her marriage, Fawziyah became pregnant which ultimately caused her to decide to leave her husband Kashif Anwar to live with her parents to raise her child in a safe environment. Her evidence for divorce proceedings against Anwar included recordings in which Fawziyah accused her husband of ruining her life.

In September 2021, Fawaizyah agree to travel with Kashif to Edinburgh, despite her parents' concerns. CCTV footage revealed that the couple had lunch together at St Andrew's Square, before walking to Arthur's Seat.

During the descent from Arthur's seat, She would fall 50 feet, sustaining a head injury which caused her death. The question is, did she fall like her husband told police or did he push her?

Yuba County 5

The Yuba County Five were a group of young men from Yuba County, California in the United States, each with mild intellectual disabilities or psychiatric conditions. The boys were reported missing after attending a college basketball game at CSU, Chico (also known as Chico State), on the night of February 24, 1978.

That night would lead to a large-scale search for the young men that would take months before there was a breakthrough.

Eventually some of the boys were located and that would lead to far more questions than answers.
