It was also a doorway into a very personal discussion for us about mortality as he had just come from recording in Marymount Hospice. He then opened up about his own grief and guilt around his friend's suicide. We finished the discussion chatting about our lives without booze and checking in on all that so many years since we both decided to stop. I chatted with Comedian Emman Idama at my house recently. He is originally from Nigeria and came to Ireland when he was 7. I had intended to focus on Emman being from that first generation of immigrants that came to Ireland in the 1990's however the chat took a massive turn when Emman opened up about the abuse he endured in his household and how living with his mentally ill mother was a challenge. I am not quite sure how he survived that challenge to be honest with you and I am still a bit shell shocked from hearing about it. It really is an incredible tale of survival but also a sad tale about the toll mental illness takes on a family. A must listen!

To get the podcast back up and running I decided I would chat to Karl Spain about dealing with the loss of a mother. He had lost his Mom back in the early days of our comedy careers and I wanted to ask him about dealing with grief. We also chatted a lot about finding humour in loss. Sice the last episode was just after my mom died I thought this would be a good link to getting back in the game.

I just decided to record where I was at 5 days after my mother died. I had recorded an episode on the shift podcast the night my mom died and I was happy to have a record of how I felt that night. I was feeling a bit more exhausted but I couldn't sleep when I recorded this after the funeral was done and the quietness had begun.

I have known Jordan for a good few years and I was really shocked when I saw her facebook post last year that she was coming out as a woman.
