Queer journeys to parenthood

We all know that the lesbian urge to DIY is particularly strong, from building furniture using your very own set of tools to building a family using kitchen utensils (yes, we are talking about turkey basters!). If you have ever wondered about the actual dynamics of starting a queer family, you’ll hopefully find some answers in today’s episode, as Casey, Lea and Sarah, our guest for the day, discuss fertility journeys and the lesbian biological clock.

After sharing how they feel about wanting to build their own family, our three speakers focus more closely on the options available to lesbian couples when considering fertility journeys. They then look at the intricacies linked to lesbian couples having babies, concentrating on the many legal and social challenges these families have to face. As you might suspect, what definitely wasn’t a challenge was for Lea to find yet another pick-up line to end this episode, so make sure you listen until the very end to find out what she came up with this time!

During their conversation, Lea and Tanishka talk about some of the major differences when being queer in the East as opposed to the West, from coming out and dating apps, to opening up to family and thinking about marriage. Rainbow washing: where does my pink money go?

However, rather than focusing on the actual rainbow flag, Casey and Lea discuss rainbow washing, or how several companies and corporations are seeing and using the LGBTQ+ community as a money-making, capitalist machine while also refusing to accept or support the community itself.

Among others, our hosts focus on Disney, Barilla and Coachella to look at companies which are either exemplifying rainbow washing trends, or actively disrespecting a portion of their consumers Pasta lovers, watch out for those homophobic cannelloni!

The hosts also discuss the positive and negative impacts that sponsors might have on Pride celebrations and events, and what difference they can make within queer people’s workplaces. Queer dating: your place or mine?

As Shakespeare famously wrote, ‘To date or not to date, that is the question’. Or was that Léa and Casey who said that instead? As you might have guessed, this episode will focus on dating life - whether it’s a comedy or a tragedy, it’s up to you to decide. This episode, our hosts are joined by a very special first guest, Maria, who is also one of our producers.

Over the course of the episode, we will go over some interesting dating scenarios, including going on a date with your date’s ex, discovering Hong Kong through dating, and sneaking into some random person’s yacht for that extra romantic (or criminal) twist. Our three queer-eteers will then move on to talk about how to find a date and, when meeting people outside of apps, how to tell if they’re into you: according to Léa, it’s all about the fingers. Dyke drama: fact or fiction?

Would you move in with your girlfriend soon after the first date, u-haul style? Or would you rather be your girlfriend’s friendly neighbour for 18 months before moving in together, like Casey?

On today’s episode, our hosts deal with lesbian relationship stereotypes, and the 'drama' that is often associated with them. After talking about Reading Pride and their favourite pride festivities, Casey and Lea start today’s discussion by sharing some statistics (and raising a host of questions) about lesbian relationships.

They then delve into how the perception of women in society and the general lack of healthy and positive representations of lesbian relationships are to blame for the equation ‘lesbians + romantic relationship = drama’. And what if you add a conservative religious environment as a further variable, as Casey does?

Well, it should come as no surprise that perceptions of queer relationships and their legitimacy become even more negative. In this episode, our hosts dive into the fascinating world of lesbian stereotypes. After discussing the L Word (spoiler alert!), Reading Pride, and how gay their days were, Casey and Lea test their knowledge of lesbian labels before starting to unpack them.

In this first episode, our hosts Léa and Casey will walk you through what led four Paris-based lesbians to think that yet another queer podcast would be absolutely necessary for this world.

After giving you a bit of background about each member on the team, our hosts get more personal as they tackle what is often one of the most stressful experiences in the life of a queer person: coming out.

Léa is the first host to share her experience of what it was like to come out to her family in Reading, UK, while Casey talks about her own journey of queer-discovery and the difficulties she faced while still living in Sydney, Australia.

After discussing the importance of sharing these experiences, and before saying ‘à bientôt’ (that’s French for ‘stay tuned for our next episode’), our hosts end on a lighter note as Lea delivers a pick-up line that is guaranteed to make any lesbian out there fall for you in seconds.
