It was cold and wet at Fratton Park, but we were warmed by a fine Portsmouth performance against Millwall.

Pompey have struggled against the Lions recently, losing all three matches last season. But the lads were definitely up for this one, coming forward from the off.

Two fine strikes from our full backs did the majority of the damage.

It was great to see Schmid, Segs and Lang back from injury.

Hull City Preview

Fratton Park hosts the final game of the season, with Hull City the visitors.

Hull need something from this, ideally a win, which could make for an entertaining last game, whereas Portsmouth were safe after the Watford win.

Safety was always Portsmouth's goal for our first season back in the championship, and achieving that despite having the lowest wage budget in the league is a great achievement by all involved.

We could finish as high as 13th, or as low as 20th, but either way we can go into this final game knowing it's job done.

Ugly But Effective

It wasn't a good game to watch, but we got the three points and that's all that matters.

Pompey took another huge step towards staying in the Championship with a hard-fought win against at Blackburn Rovers. One moment of quality between Josh Murphy and Colby Bishop was all it took, but it was enough.

Blackburn looked like a team in poor form and low in confidence, and Portsmouth looked nervy, which resulted in a poor game.

What could be more 'Pompey' than defeat against the bottom team one week followed by a victory against the top team the next?

Leeds United had quality throughout their team, but Portsmouth more than matched them in every department except one; we put the ball in the net and they didn't.

We had a little bit of luck, but this was not a lucky win. From first minute to last, Pompey were on the front foot and battling on every front.

Nico Schmid was given Man of the Match on the day, but in truth, it could've been any one of the men in blue as the all put in a top shift.

Great weather, great atmosphere, great performance and, above all, great result.

We're now 10 points clear of the drop having won 4 of our last 5 games.

Luton Town Preview

After three wins in a row and now nine points clear of the relegation zone, this weekend Portsmouth ravel to bottom club Luton Town.

Who'd have thought that Luton would struggle so badly this season after dropping out of the Prem last year? Despite changing their manager, they are struggle to find any sort of form.

The return match was eventful, despite ending 0-0. Luton had plenty of chances to take the lead, often foiled by the now ex-Pompey keeper Will Norris, before having their own keeper sent off in the first half.

Take a bow Josh Murphy. He continued his recent excellent form to fire Portsmouth nine points clear of the relegation zone and up to 17th in the table with one goal and one assist.

This was a tough game, and it came with a cost. Atkinson, Matthews, Swanson, and Hayden all limped off, with the first two looking a concern.

This run of has seen Portsmouth ease their relegation fears and lifted the mood around PO4.

Missed Chances

Portsmouth suffered their seventh consecutive away defeat, but it could've been a completely different story.

So often we have been found wanting on our travels, making wholesale changes and getting rolled over.

This was different. This was better. Much better.

We should've been 3 or 4 up at half-time, and maybe added more in the second.

Chance after chance came and went, and Sheffield United did what all good teams do and made us pay.

We now have a decent run of fixtures which include 5 home game in the next seven, plus dogfight away games.

Time for Pompey to put a run together?

Portsmouth hosted Millwall and Burnley in the last 7 days and all did not go to plan. A very stubborn and well drilled Millwall took all 3 points back to London, followed by a spirited performance against high-flying Burnley.

We're still above the relegation zone, but only just.

Reinforcements have come in during the window in time for the tough trip to Sheffield United. Will it be enough?

It was expected that we would play a much-changed side in the 3rd round of the FA Cup at Wycombe. What was not expected was the complete abject performance we got from those that played.

It was a chance to impress, it a chance to stake a claim for more minutes. Instead, it was confirmation that the squad has little depth in quality and reinforcements are much needed.

At least we can concentrate on Championship survival now.

Another fine away performance means that Pompey moved 7 points clear and WILL be top of League One at Christmas.

2 Goals from Abu Kamara (who is getting better with every game ATM) and one from Captain Pack sealed a convincing win for the blues.

Less said about the EFL Trophy match the better, however.

Evolution, not revolution, is what Rich says. Well, is that right? Or do we need to call on some old-skool Wolfie Smith spirit to get us up and out of this league?
