The show started with heatwave chaos as Stuart compared himself to a human disco ball while listeners shared their best ways to stay cool during the hottest spell of the year. The duo also looked back at last week’s unexpected fire alarm drama, which famously interrupted the show and nearly turned a Myles Smith song into an accidental Dolly Parton remix.

A highlight of the afternoon was welcoming Stuart’s daughter Lucy into the studio to celebrate her 12th birthday. Lucy brought plenty of birthday energy, gave her honest opinions on studio life, and even enjoyed her own “five minutes of fame” as she shared stories about secondary school, half-term adventures and life as a Year 7 student.

Elsewhere, Stuart and Rachael chatted about Soccer Aid, Robbie Williams’ halftime performance, local events including the Grafton Regis Summer Fete and Classic Car Show, and the upcoming Stony Live Festival, which promises a packed week of music and entertainment across Stony Stratford.

The show’s popular Birthday of the Week feature returned, complete with a special birthday song chosen by Lucy, while listeners also enjoyed plenty of 80s classics, a misheard lyrics moment, and a nostalgic trip through the decade of MTV, Pac-Man and Live Aid.

The show quickly turned into the ultimate summer soundtrack, packed with sunshine anthems, Eurovision nostalgia and listeners’ favourite summer bangers. The conversation bounced through Elton John, David Bowie, and the Rocketman film before Stuart revealed his very first single — Kylie Minogue’s “I Should Be So Lucky” — opening the floodgates to embarrassing first albums and questionable music choices from the past.

The 90s nostalgia continued throughout the afternoon with chats about the Spice Girls possibly reuniting, Atomic Kitten’s comeback, and whether the Friends theme tune counts as a one-hit wonder. Naturally, this led to the all-important debate about how many claps are actually in the Friends intro.

There was also complete radio chaos thanks to Adam Lambert’s unexpected version of The Muffin Man, proving once again that absolutely anything can happen on The End of the Week.

The Bank Holiday weekend provided plenty of stories too — from football refereeing, disco bingo chaos, and a new 5K personal best, to burgers and bottle stalls at Whaddon’s May Fayre. There was also excitement building for The Greatest Showman musical night and another long weekend just around the corner.

The show took a nostalgic turn as Stuart & Rachael revisited childhood cartoon classics including Danger Mouse, Superted, Inspector Gadget, Raggy Dolls, and Fireman Sam, sparking listeners’ memories of Saturday morning TV favourites.
