2018 is over! like, 4 minutes ago as I write this, and I have to say that it was a bizarre year. Some great films, some absolutely rubbish ones but an interesting year nonetheless. Thanks for the consistent support, thanks for texting us and listening and helping us make the show that we want to make.

We got some fun things planned in 2019. We're working with a new audio interface and software so the audio will inevitable have some kinks to work out over the next couple of weeks but it'll be worth it.

Look, it's Pulp Fiction, there's not a lot I can say in this description that the title didn't already say. It's fucking Pulp Fiction, it's a classic. Most people say it's the best of Tarantino's work. I've watched this movie about a 100,000 times and I still found some new things while rewatching it for this episode. On this episode of For Films Sake we talk about the famous Annie Hall. I wanna call it a romantic comedy but its really a break-up comedy. I think this movie is absolutely brilliant at expressing feelings that would otherwise be metaphor as literal and it's what gives the film a large part of it's charm. Not too mention, it's fucking Woody Allen, which regardless of how you feel about him as a person is a brilliant filmmaker and comedic filmmakers could learn a thing or two from his skill. It's hilarious, I related a little too much to Alvy Singer and the dialogue was a treat to listen to. If you haven't seen it, I recommend that you watch it. If not for fun, watch it to learn something about comedy and comedic timing. Cheers!

Making the movie more mentally interactive and effective than a lot of other movies that attempt the same thing. I love Fincher's work and this is one of my favourite his. The creative forces behind the Documentary Frayed Fabric, an interview based documentary aiming to let sexual assault survivors talk about their assault and trauma. Devan got the idea for the film after realizing that opening up about his experience was amazingly cathartic for him. So he's encouraging other people with similar experiences to do the same. I admire their need for a nuanced conversation about a complicated topic and the lengths they've gone to start it. It was a brilliant show to record and probably one of the best conversations we've had on the show. Not 70's cinema, but like old 40's and 50's cinema because it's amazing and there's an insane amount to learn from it but you blow him off cause CGI is cool. Yeah, fuck you. old Cinema's amazing and Rashomon is proof of that. Kurosawa's classic is a brilliant character study and social examination of what is "Truth". It's timeless for a reason. Do yourself a favour and watch old cinema. You'll learn so goddamn much.
