			<description><![CDATA[<p><br></p><p>Dr Jill Liddington&nbsp;is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Leeds. Her expertise lies with women's history, especially gender and class in nineteenth and twentieth century Britain.&nbsp;</p><br><p>Jill is the celebrated author of&nbsp;<em>Female Fortune: the Anne Lister diaries 1833-36.&nbsp;</em>This&nbsp;was the book that inspired TV scriptwriter&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sally_Wainwright" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Sally Wainwright</a>&nbsp;to write&nbsp;<em>Gentleman Jack</em>&nbsp;(BBC1/HBO). It was also&nbsp;the book Sally chose to take with her if she was ever trapped on a desert island (BBC R4).</p><br><p>This was a fund-raising talk in conjunction with Jill, a member of Halifax Civic Trust, and afterwards there was a book signing of&nbsp;<em>Female Fortune</em>.</p><br><p>The event was held at The Albany Club at Hope Hall Halifax which has connections to Anne Lister by being home to Christopher Rawson her coal rival.</p><br><p>We are very grateful to Jill for her time, and we hope that you enjoys Jill's talk as much as the audience and I did.</p><br><p>Alan Goodrum.</p><p>Chair. </p><p>Halifax Civic Trust.</p><hr><p style='color:grey; font-size:0.75em;'> Hosted on Acast.
