She is a Sinn Féin Teachta Dála (TD) representing the Louth constituency since the 2024 general election. Born and raised in Drogheda, County Louth, she previously served on Louth County Council from 2016 to 2024. In January 2025, Joanna was appointed to Sinn Féin's front bench as spokesperson on Arts, Sport, Communications, Culture, and Media. She is also the chairperson of Drogheda United F.C. and was elected to the FAI's National League Committee in 2023, becoming the first female chairperson in the League of Ireland.

We have worked tirelessly in our communities to help those in need feel supported and know they are not alone on their journey. SOSAD offer support and services for people who are struggling with suicidal ideation, self harming, depression, bereavement, stress and anxiety, or if you simply need to talk.
