ACL Diaries

In this series we will be checking in with ourselves mentally and how our surroundings and our lifestyle is affecting our mental health. I the host will be focusing mainly on my own experiences that I have always dealt with but have really come to the surface from a recent experience of ACL surgery and navigating mental health care in a new country. I moved from England to Canada BC and am figuring it all out.

I will be deep diving into my gut health how I am eating, my movement, and different therapies I am using to help me over come this difficult time.

I wanted to be as transparent as possible with you as a listener so this will be very raw with limited editing.

Hello beautiful people and welcome to the how do you peel podcast todays episode was recorded back in December 2021, i was joined by my incredible cousin ed grant to talk about his experience suffering in silence for over 30 years with anxiety. He talks to us about how he has dealt with it in the past and openly with in the last year. He wrote about his experience in an article for the telegraph where he said "I had a beautiful wife, happy children, a successful career - but inside I was crippled with anxiety" this article was released Ahead of Men’s Health Week in June last Year, and opened up about his secret mental-health struggles. Today he endorses people to be open and honest about their personal struggles with mental health and to reach out for help because it has helped him so much since attending therapy and creating safe life lines that he can rely on to help him when he is down. so with out further a do lets meet the wonderful Ed Grant.

The "Weird" Time Between Christmas & New Year

I start this episode off with a bit of a grounding exercise.

No one ever knows what to do with them selves in the "weird" time between Christmas and New year.

So in this bonus episode I explain a good exercise that you can do by yourself or with family or friends to help you reflect on the year you have had and your goals for the next 3 months and the next 3 years.

I think the "weird" time is a great opportunity for us to focus on how we can live our lives with purpose.

In our conversation Emily explains how she tried to take back control of her sexuality. This led her taking herself to the doctor to get help for what had been labeled as a "sex addiction". After years of therapy Emily explains that she doesn't think she had a sex addiction all along but used it as a way to keep the upper hand in sexual situations. She sheds light on how she learned about boundaries and that "IT IS OK TO SAY NO" when you don't want to do something.

Emily's vulnerability and honesty in this conversation is empowering. You won't always know who you are and what you want, and it's ok if it takes years to discover these things about yourself. So many people are in the same boat.
