With a career spanning decades, this Greensboro-based drummer and event promoter has been a cornerstone of North Carolina's vibrant music scene since the 1990s. Known for his versatility, he has performed in a wide variety of bands, including Goats Where They Shouldn’t Be, Slow Change Madagascar, Underdrive, Urinal, Taija Rae, The Tiny Meteors, Golden Dawn, Decoration Ghost, The Kneads, THNG, and their current project, Rabbit Fighter. His rhythmic prowess and passion for music have made him a vital force both on stage and behind the scenes. In addition to their work as a musician, he has produced numerous events, including Joe G’s Cover Band Explosion, GSO Fest, Still the Days Festival, and Joe G’s Summer Bash. With a dedication to showcasing local and regional talent, heplayed a pivotal role in bringing the community together through music. Always striving to uplift artists, their efforts have created lasting opportunities for musicians in the region and have strengthened the local music culture.

Tom and I recorded this in Asheville, NC (Weaverville, to be specific) in 2023. I joke with Tom that he is the unofficial Mayor of Asheville. He's been doing story and comedy shows there as well as acting for the last 15 years, and elsewhere sort of forever. On Sept 27, Tropical Storm Helene devastated the area. Today, I wanted to give a shout out to Tom and to Asheville, my home for the last year and a half. Today's episodes (part 1 and 2 are both up) are dedicated to the peeps of Western NC. And to those who simple cannot not drive 55.

Zach Hanner is an actor, writer, director and musician and, along with upright bassist Jones Smith and guitarist John McIntyre, plays ukulele in Da Howlies Hawaiian band. The group has performed their own blend of “Southern-Fried Hawaiian Music” in southeast North Carolina for the past 20 years. Starting with traditional Hawaiian tunes, the band has woven a set list that also includes country, bluegrass, yacht rock, indie rock and a bevy of originals.

Daisy Hobbs is a former Broadway actress turned comedy writer. Her scripts center quirky Black female protagonists and diverse casts as delusional misfits with hearts of gold. Daisy is also an accomplished songwriter, and hopes to one day write the next great musical cult classic. Her teleplay "I-CON-IC" was a

"Best Original Comedy Pilot" Finalist at the 2022 Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition and she has a BFA from Carnegie Mellon.

Bicycle Face was a North Carolina band hailing from Greensboro and a staple of the fertile music scene from 1988-1994, performing w Polvo, Archers of Loaf, Zen Frisbee, Geezer Lake and countless other bands. Mitchell McGirt (guitar, vocals), Brian Huskey (bass, vocals) and Chris Longworth (drums) had a unique sound for the scene with nods to Camper Van Beethoven, Meat Puppets, Buck Owens and classic garage rock. An initial four song 7 inch record and their full length album, “Trust and Obey” were released on the now defunct Moist Records and were followed up by the “Christafari” 7 inch on Squealer Records and “The Red Hat Man” on Greensboro’s D-Tox Records. Their favorite audience review was “These guys suck, but they are trip between songs."

After college, Tom stayed in New York to study with Groundlings East/Gotham City Improv where he became a member of the performing company, an instructor, and the Artistic Director. He eventually left for LA where he wrote for SHOWTIME television and appeared in a handful of national commercials and feature films. Tom has since settled in Asheville, NC, where he is an Adjunct Professor at Warren Wilson College and runs his own academy, The Asheville School of Improv. He is part of the popular improv troupe, Reasonably Priced Babies, the host and producer of the long-running storytelling series, Listen to This, and co-host of the weekly sports talk radio show, Run That Back, on AshevilleFM. Tom also somehow finds time to contribute articles and reviews to the music website, Asheville Stages.

Daisy Hobbs is a former Broadway actress turned comedy writer. Her scripts center quirky Black female protagonists and diverse casts as delusional misfits with hearts of gold. Daisy is also an accomplished songwriter, and hopes to one day write the next great musical cult classic. Her teleplay "I-CON-IC" was a "Best Original Comedy Pilot" Finalist at the 2022 Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition and she has a BFA from Carnegie Mellon.
