This dark poem was composed in the thousand-year-old crypt of Worcester cathedral. It recalls the tragic aftermath of the brutal Battle of Worcester in 1651, when the blood of thousands of dead Scottish Highlanders and Lowlanders drenched the soil of the city and turned its rivers red. Thousands more - injured and traumatised - were cruelly shackled and imprisoned within the thick stone walls of the city’s cathedral and its ancient crypt before Cromwell shipped the hapless survivors to labour in Barbados. None would see their homeland again. As the glens of Scotland mourned for their lost youth, Hugh Peters - Cromwell's ruthless chief preacher from Salem, Massachusetts - stalked among the prisoners. (For more of DJ's poetry please listen to the 'Poems and Letters for Cody' podcast).

Hosted on Acast.

EPISODE 1: TAINTED PARADISE

Writer Declan James is alone on a tangled Bathsheba hillside when a terrifying vision confronts him. Has 'something' tracked him down in his faraway Barbados refuge - a place to which he fled from the haunted streets of Fitzmarbury (the darkest of London's ancient black magic territories). Declan knows it is no coincidence that more people disappear in Fitzmarbury than anywhere in England.

BARATANAC BOOK BLURB:

Even the purest evil has a history. Declan James is a struggling author and new resident of Fitzmarbury. Declan unwittingly draws the attention of a demonic magic and terrifying events ensue. Fearing for his life, Declan flees to Barbados to an isolated sanctuary. Declan senses the unseen and compulsively writes down his incredible visions as threats looms. Local investigators discover many manuscripts in Declan's laptop which document his life just before he goes M.I.A. Things he could not have known, such as diabolical stories of a 2500-year-old Priestess of Baal are revealed. The malignant influences of this bloodthirsty Sorceress stretch back to ancient times and continue to wreak havoc from her London lair to this day. Declan's writings illuminate a roadmap of inhuman horrors throughout the ages, revealed to all those who become acquainted with Fitzmarbury Witches.

A NEW EVIL AT THE WORLD’S EDGE

In the fifth century BC a young girl is trafficked to the greatest city on earth, Carthage, from a brothel in the decaying desert city of Sekht-Am (modern-day Siwa) deep in the Spirit Lands of Egypt. Wrenched from the only love she has ever known, she is raised in merciless service to Baal, and as a hardened warrior. Ever threatened by the secrets of her origins, to prove herself she embarks on a ruthless mission to a rebellious colony in Spain. After much cruelty she is again sent from Africa - this time to penetrate new frontiers at the edge of the world, in ancient Britain. She strides ashore with zeal, backed by empire, powerful relics, an inhuman familiar escaped from the fire pits of Baku, and forbidden scrolls from a murdered monk. Will she secure Baal’s place on the island, protect vital commercial interests, and rekindle her dying embers of humanity?

SOON TO BE PUBLISHED: BARATANAC. Book One of the 'Fitzmarbury Witches' series.
