Using A Loss Leader To Save Your Life?

Retailers have been using loss leaders as a way to get you into their store to impulse buy or purchase other items they sell. Even car dealers have used this type of bait and switch over the years.

Loss leaders usually leave a bad taste in your mouth because it’s deceptive. Life safety should never fall into this category, but unfortunately it does, more often than you may realize.

Kindness

Lock downs are continuing with tempers, stress and anxiety on the rise. I constantly hear about other social issues growing as well. Drug & alcohol abuse, family breakdowns and worse.

People don’t need more negativity piled on them. Last week I said “Don’t under value kindness or see it as weakness because it’s a STRENGTH. Anyone can be cruel easily it takes a stronger person to be kind.” Everyone has something going on that you know nothing about.

Remember a moment of kindness and empathy delivered at the right moment could be the life line someone desperately needs. You have that superpower. Use it.

Working from home has been a life saver for many people. WFH been a regular conversation lately as people question returning vs staying home. I believe there will be a mix going forward, and the decision to attend a face to face meeting will be determined by new priorities. Shut-up and Listen

It’s a challenge as a leader to step back and let the team run, but you need to.

Last year the team was working together on a project. All spoke, sometimes interrupting each other but not to be rude, because they were excited. I spent more time listening to their points because they were far more intimate with their areas of responsibility. If you dominate every situation the team stops contributing. You hired them for their skills, allow them to use them.

To be clear I’m not talking about disengagement you need to be a part of the group. They want your input and thoughts, but they want you to work with them, not talk at them.

It was announced this week that we will be moving from code red to code “soft” red this weekend. With a number of people coming back to work there may be a few new faces as you ramp up.

Training new people, or investing in existing people needs to happen, however it can be expensive. Workplace Education Manitoba currently offers just over 90 courses at no cost to you. These courses are government funded, and only available for a limited time. We’ve taken advantage of this opportunity, you should too.
