			<description><![CDATA[<p>The United Nations says&nbsp;that almost a third of women worldwide have been subjected to physical or sexual violence at least once in their lifetime. And that every 10 minutes, one woman or girl is killed by her intimate partner or family member.&nbsp;</p><br><p>Armenia is no exception. This year alone, domestic violence cases shot up by 37%, according to the prosecutors’ office. The increase can be partly explained due to the lingering effects&nbsp;of war and forced displaced, but also the fact that more and more women are finding the courage to speak up and seek help.</p><br><p>The first group to offer survivors in Armenia shelter, psychological, legal support – and&nbsp;most importantly, empowerment –&nbsp;is the Women’s Support Center.</p><br><p>It was founded&nbsp;15 years ago by executive director Maro Matosian.</p><br><p>This episode is dedicated to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25-December 10).
