The metal part of a #2 pencil itself may serve as a scraper (in the manner of a Latin American guiro), for example. Pens and pencils may be struck together as if they were clapping sticks or claves. In addition, you can rub two pencils, two pens or even one of each together for some interesting sounds.
This episode includes a mix of tracks featuring a Native American style flute, two gourd shakers, a drum and a didgeridoo. I made all these instruments. The flute is from a kit. The drum consists of plastic and wood shims, along with a balloon. The didgeridoo is made from fallen bamboo harvested from a local stand (plant). Even if the melody of the title is not ancient, the represented instruments (flute, shakers, drum and didgeridoo) have long histories.

Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/jonathans-rhythms-from-found-objects/exclusive-content

Hosted on Acast.
In this episode, I demonstrate didgeridoos I have made myself. The didgeridoo is an aboriginal wind instrument made from a tree hollowed out by termites. Many didgeridoos are made from eucalyptus but some are made from other materials, such as bamboo, PVC, clay and even pyrex. One of the instruments I demonstrate is not a didgeridoo at all but a cardboard tube roll from a box of aluminum foil. The other didgeridoos are made from a shag stick, cardboard and bamboo. The didgeridoo is played by buzzing the lips. A consistent drone is produced by the method of circular breathing.

Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/jonathans-rhythms-from-found-objects/exclusive-content

Hosted on Acast.
