Season 3, Ep. 10 - Xmas, Parking and The Wave

WHAT are these people doing? They've carefully (SO carefully) stowed their shopping, tucked little Baby On Board into the cryocapsule, turned the car on, and put it in reverse. Now they're not moving. Those white lights tell the world that they're ready to back over some slow-moving fellow shoppers, but nothing is happening. YOU have been blocking up Xmas car park traffic for seven straight minutes now. The queue stretches well past the boomgate. A fellow car park shopper is fogging your back window with their meaty breath, unwilling to defy the laws of indicator-means-my-park, but Jesus Mary Joseph and at least four camels: WHY won't they move?? Are they on a call? Having a stroke? Reading a book? Listening to their favourite car-based podcast?

Nick and Sam answer all these questions and many more, including a deep dive into The Wave. That little flag which tells fellow motorists: I am a human. Please, do not kill me.

Just as the winners write the history books, so do they hang little pine trees (or scented rappers' faces) around the rearview mirrors of the cars made by the losers. Because those losers of wars build some amazing cars. And those cars start to, you know, take on a bit of their own distinctive musk. Nothing pungent, but definitely evocative.

Join Nick and Sam as they guide you by the nose around the crumbling foam and gently heated plastics of yesteryear's classics.

It's been a while since something like this has happened - I swear! Normally, we just go for a quickie to fill in the need and make a big effort later on when bloody work isn't so busy, and we all know what that's like, right?

Talking about podcasting here. Trying the clever little switcharoo to cover up for a particularly dry dry-spell, and we are certainly not above including the word "sex" in the episode title to vacuum in a little more interest.

But do we actually talk about sex in cars? Do we ever! Eventually. After a lot of build up.

We reminisce about the ones that got away, and the ones where we almost risked it all. And yes, this is mostly Marketplace and Gumtree, but you have to kiss a few frogs to get into a V12 Alpina with the pin stripes. No! Don't worry about sourcing 12 individual, 28-year-old BMW spark plugs! Check out the car phone! Buy! Sell!

Okay, still indicating, now release brake and move off slowl-SLOWly, now steer. STEER. HOW?? Hand over under hand ten and two unless you're moving the wheel in which case ...

Nick and Sam have been pondering the big questions: how the hell do you teach someone to use a steering wheel?

Season 3, Ep. 3 - All Japan Day 2025! Number plates, and the Ferrari Enzo

There were Hondas, there were Toyotas, there were Nissans, there were probably Subarus and Isuzus and Daihatsus and even the odd Mazda. There were high ones, low ones, ones that went even lower than that, and then a couple which were deffo lowered, but not on purpose, because these things tend to be pretty homemade. But the one thing that was definitely there was love. And a yakitori stand that took a while to serve you, but was worth the wait.

All Japan Day 2025 was an absolute all-timer, and your favourite car-based podcasters, Nick and Sam, were there to capture it all from the mostly comfy front seats of a mostly stock R33. We even cover the sad fella in the forgotten Gallardo getting repeatedly outshone on the window-fogging drive-past by a lady in a classy Commodore. Episode 12 - Special Feature: Porsche 911 + Investment Advice with Nick and Sam

First released in 1963, almost immediately re-named because of French people, and mostly driven by the elderly, it's ... a very special episode of Just Going For A Drive. Sam and Nick straighten their cloth caps, comb their beards, and record the starting mileage in a small, leather-bound book using a Porsche-branded golf pencil, before clattering off into the hills and autobahns in possibly the world's gold standard of sports cars. We talk about the 911's weird lay out, its (actually quite accurate) image as a middle-of-life conveyance, and dream of the Singer Motor Company configurator. Episode 11 - Frowning in a Ferrari, British Design is Bonkers, and the Best Drive Ever

Everyone wants one, but have you ever seen someone actually smiling in a Ferrari? Have you? Like Batman and Bruce Wayne, a grin and a Fezza are never seen together. On this episode we ask (and answer) the big question: does owning a Ferrari make you unhappy and how can I get one as soon as possible so that I can also feel this feeling? (We told you it was a big question.) Then, to lighten things up, we head north from Italy to the sunny British Isles to ponder why the country where grey cardigans come from produces some of the most beautiful, unreliable cars ever made (not the toughest segue from Ferraris, it must be said). Finally, in driving stories, we put the boxing gloves and poking sticks away, and share our Best Drives Ever.

And we celebrate this milestone (another driving term!) with a bumper episode dedicated to our beautiful listeners who write in. Nick and Sam answer Hannah's question "Why the hell are you zooming across all of those lanes? And why don't you know about indicators?". We shout-out to long-time supporter, Steph the graphic designer, and try to make her proud (or at least slightly amused) as we tackle the complete spectrum of colour on cars. Yes, the complete spectrum. That's about 5 or 6 different colours, right? Sam is a bit colour-blind. This eternally decent advice both informs and terrifies as Nick and Sam rush bravely screaming into Parisian traffic, bunny-hopping around centuries-old landmarks, and discovering what real mountains have to teach about real driving. If you've ever been involved in backing a trailer, either on the supply or demand side, you'll recognise the cross-handed reverse-but-in-the-mirror style of driving with which our own fathers make magic, somehow squeezing through impossible gaps.

Our handsome young reporter at large, Nick, hit the dealerships to discover the ins, outs and definitely-nots of booking a test drive. The boys share chilling tales of hitches hiked, hiking hitchers and everything in between.

And our feature car is one of the true greats: the Honda NSX. Did you know that Ayrton Senna was involved in its development? We did. Everyone does. That's why we talk about far more interesting NSX things, like a little video called 'Getaway in Stockholm'. If you know, you also know what a dial-up modem sounds like.
