The Testimony of Itosu is an important Karate classic.

We have chosen this name to distinguish our translation from the many other fine works that abound. Mitani Sensei is an expert in Linguistics and was keen to present his point of view.

Although the key points are outlined in short sentences, the details are highly significant. It is invaluable to the students who wish to study the original karate. Some mistakes are also present but this is because of the brevity of the text. There is no other book containing such important information that enables the reader to understand the karate of those times. It will remain a timeless classic.

Mitani Kazuya Sensei, 7th Dan in Original Traditional Karate, is a student of the late last Master of the original Karate, Kinjo Hiroshi, 9th Dan, Hanshi. Kazuya Sensei is attempting to alert karateka from around the world to the possibility that original karate may soon be lost to us all! 

​He feels it is his duty to speak out about the original karate before it disappears from the world altogether. He is receiving both pleasant and unpleasant email communications in regard to his forthright views. He said, “I hardly speak about the truth in Japan because many karate teachers do not favour the truth. They prefer to hide it.”

Ankō Itosu is one of the most important figures in the development of modern karate, both a martial art and sport which is practiced today by millions of people worldwide. He not only laid the foundation of modern training but taught a very sophisticated next generation of practitioners who later were essential for spreading this splendid art worldwide. Ankō Itosu was born in the Shuri district of Okinawa, the main island of then independent Ryūkyū Kingdom (what is now part of Japan) in the year of 1831, into a time when modernization has not yet started in this part of the world. Coming from a low-ranked family, he grew up in turbulent times, and after a long eventful life he eventually became a legendary figure of the Ryūkyūan history. He died in 1915. Looking at his education, his professional career, his dedication to the indigenous fighting arts and his legacy he has left to posterity, the book dives into the life and times of Ankō Itosu, the man, the master and the myth.

Motive for training

• First we need to identify the main reasons for training to see if we cater 
• The Influence of Karate Kid from the 80s onwards & now Cobra Kai
• Childhood curiosity/passion - ex members wish they never gave up!

Build a separate syllabus 

• The need to differentiate from Kids Karate - 
• Curriculum needs to be based on Self-Defence and Fitness

Structuring the class 

• Separating Adult Class
• Family Class

Building a community

• BJJ has a fantastic approach to building community and friendships, we need to emulate this feature
• Create a community by having once a term activities - bowling, dinner, pubs, paintball 
• Having a Facebook group where members can interact - this will only continue to develop, and members becoming friends on FB and interacting with each other
